Trouble with micro SD card on HTC S620/DASH

I have an unlocked t-mobile DASH with original HTC software. I have inserted a 1 GB micro SD card but the phone does not seem to recognize that it is there. Is something supposed to happen when you put in a new card? I have difficulty downloading music into the phone as it tells me there is not sufficient memory even though I'm only trying to download 2 albums. Any help?

put the card in and go to file explorer and hit menu. scroll down and if you see "storage card" then the phone is reading your card. if you downloading files from the internet to your memory card when the phone asks if you want to dl the file hit menu, save as and save to card

I have tons of music and programs on my memory card. It is a 1 GB PNY MicroSd. I guess I should not say tons. Anyway, I remember deleting some pictures through active sync. Now the DASH will not recognize the card. How do I test this? I do not have another device to test the card in. Any recommendations? HELP
