Anyone know what's the price would be for this phone?

Posted by: c/m

to be honest.............

NEC 515 is not that special anymore.............

just look at other phones..............they have more feature than 515.....................

515 was special when it first annouce cuz no phone have a 65TFt screen and quad band.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and polyphonic....

and look at now...................... every new high end phone have at least 2 color screen.....one external and internal......plus polyphonic ringtones....and tri-band.............

seriously................... quad band is not a must............

that's just my opinion

I do have about 10 NEC 515s right now

I actually use one of them right now, it very kewl because it is one of the first phone right now that has 65000+ colors on it (I think). I managed to have the serial cable and software to upload ringtones and pictures to phone too. I upped bunch of pictures and set each of them to different caller on my phone list accordingly.

Another cool thing is that I have a ringtone that some guy is rapping in the tune. So it does have the capability of playing tones with human voice.

I just love this phone. I heard that it's gonna be around $300 in price when it is released. Don't know for sure though.

Oh, did I mention my NEC 515 is unlocked?

I can now go out and buy SIM card for T-Mobile, VStream and such and just use it with no contracts...

I know and I don't deny the facts.

Who cares how many phones you have ? First off, there's no need to brag, no one is here to claim how many phones they have. Put it in your profile if you must. That's great for you but most of the "unique" things you mention about the NEC 515 are also in other phones which are being released now. 3G/WCDMA phones/networks are making a limited introduction here in Europe this summer and they pave the way to the future. So that's something I will concentrate on rather than worry how many phones other users may have.

Enjoy the 515 'cause there are better ones coming out all the time so in a couple of months, the 515 will be "old, second-hand news"!!

icefire, first of all, I'm not a child just because I post something about vboyz thinking he's cooler with his cache of phones. I don't care, I was pointing out to him that no one cares about how many of the phones he has, it's more helpful to post info on how the phone works etc. No one is here to compare how many more phones they have than others.

But thanks for the humor, the statement about little kids did crack me up.

I did put out reviews in ATT forums back in some days. Search on it and you'll see. But the fact still holds that I got more then 10 of these things to play with.

By the way, the firmware version of my phones are PD0341. Still trying to upload ringtones though. Don't have a manual or help is like shooting in the dark.

Hehe it's all good vboyz, if you ever have one too many feel free to send a couple to me :laughs:. The 515's a little too expensive for me but for the moment I'll shift back to a Nokia until the prices come down for the quadband phones. But the 3G phones are already being sold here in the UK including the NEC e606 and NEC e808 as well as the Motorola A830 so that will be a cool trend to watch when it comes our way in the US.

Can someone tell me why the US is so slow in adapting hitech phones? I mean in Japan, they are already on video conferencing phones already and look at us...still TDMA and barely GSM now with cameras and stuff. These phones we have here in US are probably ancient for Japanese people over there.

Posted by: WeneedJapPhones

Its not that the US doesn't have the know how, its just that the US doesn't apply it... Where as japan put NO LIMITS on what can be done, with wireless communications...

Hey vboyz...
is the phone size larger than GD88??
I am looking for a spare phone when i am not using my p800.
don't tell me to go find it scale size from nec coz my friend's s100 is larger than GD87/88 but it look smaller..
Also how is it feel when you put it in your front pocket??
is it too big...

Posted by: vboyz103

Sorry for the late response guys. I've been tied up with my school and work so really don't have that much time to do anything else. Anyway, I will try to take the pictures again at work and post it for your enjoyment.

Umm...most of japan runs on antiquated PDC networks, some with some data channels on the side.

That equates with.......TDMA and GSM (All of them are Time Division Multiplexing).

Hardly cutting edge.

As for their WCDMA network there? PIECE OF SH*T

Their most advanced usable network is a CDMA 2000 network, run by AU by KDDI. KDDI will have a CDMA 1x EV-DO network out soon too in the 2100 mhz range. J-Phone and NTT's WCDMAS network are all jokes in comparison.

yeah well depending were u live...GSM and barely tdma. were i live here in los angeles area specially in cingular gsm i think is bigger than tdma...but i understand that that is not the case in the rest of the US...weird i always thought that all of the usa was gsm, because ever since i got my first phone in 1998 i always thought everyone used GSM oh well. Anyways doesnt japan and other asian countries use some sort of cdma? i mean thats why we cant use thier cool phone here in the usa because they are not gsm tri band
btw the 515 seemed like a cool phone abouth 5months ago..but now..hmm dunno...if the price is right.

Posted by: Japultra

and hopefully it comes out this month. i cracked my s46 (someone out there is telling me to get a new phone) screen and i'm looking to get a new phone but i'm not too fond of the ones out right now. i really want this phone and i want it NOW!

Question for VBOY -- does this phone share similar build characteritics to other NEC phones in Europe and Asia? For instance the N8? thanks! where did you get the phone?

I don't know how the N8 in Europe is like so I can't say here. I got the phone cuz I have connections.

Updates, just got my hands on one of the game call some'n I forgot but man the graphic and speed of the game is fast. From what I heard, the NEC 515 has 2 CPUs in it and that's why it's fast in downloading and gaming.

Posted by: Japultra

vboyz i sent you a pm.

The N8 is a beautiful phone. Why oh why isn't it tri-band! It would be in my hands right now if it was.

Regarding the 515: From those pics, it would appear the flip doesn't open as wide as the GD87. It looks like it opens like the S100/105.

The " Dark Grey " color is really not that bad afterall ! It is very professional and a little bit more stylish than the normal silver...

I still can't pin point what is attracting me to this handset ?

me either. i just love the way it looks though!

Posted by: Blazers4ever

I think the reason we are so excited about the 515, is that it's the closest GSM handset to what they use in Japan (one year behind ). I love the japanese handset design......it is my favorite of all.

The GD87 is a nice "japanese style" clamshell too, but the 515 just oozes class. I can't wait until the 515's predecessor comes out.

Posted by: vboyz103

Just some updates...

I got the cable and driver that would enable me to sync contacts and stuff in outlook and also I can now use my NEC 515 as a modem to dial out on my laptop or PC. Damn this thing is running at 115 Kbps on a dialup line. Pretty damn fast. I also got an average size antena with cable to it so that I can extend my signal in my room. For some reason signal is really low in my room. But with the antena, I am full bar all the times. So I am a happy camper.

Peace \/

vboy, have any high quality pictures?

Posted by: vboyz103

you mean of the phones? If you go back about 1 post or so you'll see it. I will try to get the pictures of the data cable and stuff on here.
