Hi, I just got a brand new W900i.. and It's Vodafone branded. The reception really sucks.. when I'm downstairs in the basement.. I have no network coverage. This is my 2nd W900i and i've experienced no reception problems in my house with my first one. I've had other phones too and no reception problems (most of them were tri-band). The most bars I got in my house with this phone is 2 bars.. All my other family members have full bars in the house.. I'm sure it's nothing to do with my firmware.. (R5BB001) I heard it's a stable firmware. Anyone help me please? Thanks in advance.

where r u located? tri band can means two different things one is the europe and asia triband which is what the w900 runs on and the other is the north american triband which is abit different. its obviously u got the wrong phone for your area if you are suffering from signal problems. your area might be running on 850 frequency which w900 doesnt have. in north america u need to know your phones well before buying an imported phone because there are band differences which is effect the reception of the phone. u either buy a triband phone with 850/900/1900 or a quaband phone.

I'm located in North America - Vancouver, B.C.. I've been using a lot of tri-band phones and encountered no reception problems.. This is the first tri-band phone that has bad reception. My first W900i worked perfectly fine..

there are two different kind of triband like i said
europe and asia uses: 900/1800/1900
north america uses:850/1800/1900
both are triband but they are different. if the first one did have problem then maybe they have change the signal tower abit so u can experiencing reception problems. i had the w900 in toronto before and i can get perfect reception in basement just fine.

Thanks for the info.

Is it possible to check if your phone is running 900/850? Say my phone is 900mhz.. then there is diffenetly a problem right? No possible way to change it to 850mz? Sorry for the stupid questions.. I'm not great with reception things..

if your phone is 900/1800/1900 in canada the phone will run on 1900. and if in areas there's no 1900 then your phone will have no reception because canada uses 850 or 1900. and there's no way to change your phone to 850. u eithe buy a triband with 850 or a quaband phone

if you want better reception, give up the w900 and get a w810, its step down but you get better coverage

The W900I isn't really a good choice of handset for North America because you will not only be missing the 850 MHz band, but you will also be missing out on some of its features e.g. 3G. The W900 is an expensive handset SIM free, and I think it's rather a lot of money to spend on something that you won't get full use out of.

As the chap above said, a W810 may be more suitable. Of course this doesn't necessarily help you now, but at least you will be aware of the issue for next time.

P.S. You are also missing out on the Flash menus because the Vodafone branding. I debranded mine fairly quickly so I could use Flash. It's well worth doing in my opinion.

The W900 supports Macromedia Flash Lite, which enables it to display different animated menus. The Vodafone branding disables this feature though so you would have to unbrand the handset to be able to use the Flash menus.
