Such a thing as an unlocked Pearl?

My current Siemens phone is on its last leg and I need a new phone. I'm going to London this September for graduate school and I'd like to buy a smart phone that isn't tied to a domestic carrier so that I can end my contract with Cingular and pick up a new carrier in the UK.
Sooo... is there any way to do this? I don't see anywhere to buy a non-branded Pearl.

It is possible to have a BlackBerry unlocked to use on another GSM carrier's network. There are a few Howard Forums Advertisers who sell unlocked BlackBerries so you can always check the Marketplace forum. There is also Ebay and other E-Tailers if you want an unlocked BlackBerry. You can also purchase a locked BlackBerry and have it unlocked. There are Howard Forums Advertisers in the Marketplace forum who can unlock various BlackBerry models.

be weary about buying a blackberry used, if it has an IT policy stuck to it you may have trouble getting that removed. since it appears price isn't one of your biggest concerns, i'd sugguest trying to get one from cingy without extending commitment

Right, but then it's locked to Cingular isn't it? I need to be able to use my phone in England (on another carrier because I'm not paying $1.20/min) while I'm there.

Cingular should be able to unlock it for you after 3 months. Just tell them that you will be travelling outside of the country, and that you would like to use it with a local GSM prepaid.
