Is the 903 a step backwards ?

Hello all- I have been debating whether or not to purchase a 903 (I have never owned one).
I do like to have the latest and since the phone is about a year and a half old do you think it is outdated ?
The only phone I am using right now is the 770 and I know it is an upgrade but other than the larger screen size and camera what else is on offer ?
I imagine the music player to be identical to the 770, and imagine any web content will be the same, so I am just wondering if I will get the same excitement from the 903 that I have gotten from purchasing a newly released phone ??
I do love the Sharp mobiles but just can not see them releasing anything great for the forseeable future, will the 903 be the best to come out for us non Japanese ?

Cheers, LL-

903 will never be outdated
get it

Unless the 904sh unlock is finalized and released publicly, the 903sh will still be widely used in North America.

I've used both and I actually like the 903sh better

yep the 903sh is full of great technology and several years ahead of most phones trust me when everyone says that the 903sh is a phone to go and get even when the 904sh becomes usable as orphanboy stated well worth buying it

Lamp you'll find the 903 very similar to the 770SH, barely any firmware changes were made between the two (only themes was the major feature upgrade to the 770SH). It's still not outdated; I honestly can't find a phone being sold in Australia that I'd rather own over the 903. Also the way Sharp's going, they might not release a new model outside Japan and Hong Kong for a while yet (although they might announce something at 3GSM next month or at CeBIT in March).

So if you want you can wait and see if Sharp shows off anything at those two trade shows, but otherwise rest assured that the 903 is far from outdated. It was way ahead of its time and the competition when it was released.

Cheers for all the feedback, I guess my main concern is that coming from a 770 is it worth it to me to pay 400-500$ just to have a larger screen and better camera ?? Other than that as Al... said the interface, etc... is basically the same and I must say that I love customising my mobile and especially compared to the Nokia N73 it would not compare.
Compared to most of the phones available it still has much better specs but it's just an issue I was looking to get some opinions on.
I have seen some for sale on a local auction site and still may go for it but would wait until I see a very good price, then chances are it would be crappy UK type firmware and would then have to have it flashed to a FW which supports fullscreen wallpaper as that Vodafone bar across the bottom would drive me insane.
Cheers, LL-

get a 903sh not 903, it has the full screen wallpaper, i love the full screen on my 703shf

Hey Lamp,
Isn't only the japanese firmware has the full screen wallpaper ? Just like the 703shf there's the nagging provisioning update ? i know we can not get rid of the nagging update when used in non vodafone countries. The euro, sx833 and Taiwan firmware all have the bottom black or red bar, but without the nagging. Am i missing out any other firmware ?

Posted by: AL9999

No you're right Alien. It's just that with the 770SH, Sharp finally removed the menu bar as well, despite it being a Euro model. If Lamp goes back to a 903 he'll have to deal with the black menu bar if it's a Euro model.

Not that I think it's such a big deal anyway though.

not outdated yet...
its still got some life in it...

even when it becomes outdated you would not regret it...
... for sure a collector's item by anyone who likes cellphones at all..

For a bigger screen and better quality camera, i dont mind cashing out a few $$..

U wont regret.

I own a k800i, n73 and a 904sh (which I can't bloody call on, but still use more than the nokia) and I'm gonna be picking up a 903 as soon as I see one at a good price. I recently had a red one for a day or so as I was picking it up for someone else. Truly an excellent phone.

You's crazy LL, with yo multicolored text and asking if a 903 is worth getting in a SHARP forum....

Of course it's worth getting!

Since there isn`t better camera phone... yes, 903 still rules
