Moto Q causing notebook to lose wifi

a friend asked me if i could figure out why, when they connect their Q to their notebook (via data cable to use active sync), it causes their wifi adapter to drop the connection.
i haven't found anything using Google. anyone have a workaround?

Is the Wi-Fi adapter using the same USB hub? Is the Wi-Fi adapter built-in? Is the Wi-Fi adapter a PC Card? What kind of notebook? Is activesync set up to use the MotoQ internet access through the Wi-Fi Card or LAN? Are you trying to set up internet/LAN access through the Activesync connection?
Does it really matter if you lose Wi-Fi just for a cable connected activesync? Why not use Wi-Fi activesync? Or Bluetooth ActiveSync?
