8125 and I went for a "swim"

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Avoiding the embarassing details, I, with my 8125 in pants pocket, went for a brief "swim".

I quickly got the 8125 on dry land, and, for about 5 days it worked (except for the bottom row on the slide out key board, but hey, I was very happy)!

Now it's dead, seemingly not to wanting to charge. I suspect it's the charger plug in point, but maybe it's the battery.

Any ideas on resusitation? Try to be kind about the, you know, slip into the deep!

i say throw it in the trash and get another one, there pretty cheap now. 175-250 ish or upgrade and get the 8525

Did you dry it out thoroughly before reusing it?

If not, the circuits probably started to corrode when the unit was on. Getting a phone wet actually does not kill the phone.

I have gotten two phones completely submerged, and both came back to life. Put it in a tupperware container with a few packets of Sillica Gel, and it will be back to new in 1-2 days.

Actually, I would like to read the details of how you & your 8125 got soaked.

Ok, Ok, the story is not that bad. There I was eager to get on my boat after 6 months ashore. You see, I am a bit of a live-aboard sailor when not in the DC area. During the last two hurricane seasons (ie summers), I left my boat in Guatemala, 20 miles up the Rio Dulce to be exact. So upon returning to the boat, eager to get aboard, we laid down a board (somewhat similar to a 2x6) from dock to the back of the boat. About 30 seconds after saying something prophetic like, "I am eager, I am just going to go for it", I stepped onto the board thinking it was fairly well secured. Just like the "dunk tank" at the county fair, I was in the water before I realized what happened. I really don't know what let lose, except that obviously one end of the board came free. So that's it, not too wild, except maybe for location. C'est la vie! Try to be kind with follow-up. . . if you must.

Amazing! Popped in a new battery, and she lives. Fully functional. Feeling VERY lucky.

Yes, all is well. Everything is working fine as far as I can tell. I dodged a bullet this time.

So, I got a reprieve from my upgrade decision. Next: 8525, Kaiser, other? Mobile 6.0? Hmmmm.
