Audiovox 6600 - Verizon Firmware Upgrade

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

We're getting ready to update the firmware on our Audiovox 6600, per Verizon's notice about accessing broadband after their systems upgrade beginning in February.

We are rather new at this and have never done a firmware upgrade before. We've backed up all the data on the PDA, and we recognize that applications like Photo Contacts Pro will have to be reinstalled after the upgrade.

A couple of questions, though:

1) Will ActiveSync and other features still be there after we update or will we need to find our Verizon CD that came with it and then reinstall?

2) Has anyone already gone through this update? If so, did you run into any unexpected issues with it?

3) Is there anything else we should be aware of as far as potential problems?

Thanks so much for any help.

bumping the thread

No one has gotten the Verizon firmware upgrade that's required by February?

In case this helps anyone ELSE who might have this question, we got the upgrade tonight and so far so good.

I would recommend the following:

1) Sync first
2) Do a full backup of all your data
3) Get the firmware upgrade - follow the directions on the Verizon site exactly
4) Soft reset and sync again
5) Restore from your backup file

After our upgrade, ActiveSync created a new directory - not sure why, maybe I did something wrong - so I had to copy the backup file into the new directory for the restore. When I did, though, all our data, programs, previous text messages, settings, ring tone assignments, etc. were back on the phone.

Hopefully when they change to the new broadband system in February, everything will work properly. If not, I'll update.

This is so annoying. We just got a notice in the mail that yet ANOTHER upgrade will be required beginning July 1. The firmware version they require now is different from the one we got back in February, so we get to go through this whole process for the second time in five months.

So, thought I'd bump again to see if anyone has any experiences with the last upgrade they would like to share. I'd appreciate any cautions or things to watch for that others may have run into last time.
