8125 - no sound from speaker

This morning the audio on my 8125 started to malfunction. While I can hear phone calls and audio files played via Windows Media Player through the headphones, I'm getting no sound out of the speaker.

So far I've tried a soft reset, a hard reset, and a ROM update with no success.

Any suggestions for further troubleshooting or fixes?

Thanks.

John

Do you use a wired headphone? If so, your issue is the malfunction of the headset port on the phone that get stuck in headset mode. This is a quite common mechanical failure on HTC phones. That's why I never used wired headset with mine.

Yes, I was using the wired headphone jack. This has never happened before. Is there a way to reset out of headset mode?

Now, all of a sudden, the speaker is working again without my having done anything about it. Perhaps Foxbat was right that the sound was stuck in a headset mode. I would definitely like to know if there is a way to manually switch this mode should the same problem occur in the future.

Like I said, it is a mechanical failure. There is switch in the headset port that will disconnect internal speaker when a headset is plugged in. Over the time, the switch get sticky and got stuck. It's just a matter of time this happens. There is not much you can do other than don't use it.

If you only use headset for phone calls, I'd strongly suggest you buy a BT headset. If you use it to listen to music, get A2DP hack installed on your 8125 and buy a BT stereo headset to listen to music.
