trouble with playlists

I have done lots of searching on issues I have with playlists.

Obviously you can not add playlists with the computer, (would be nice to)!
You must create playlists on the phone.

When you create a playlist on the phone, the walkman only searches certain directories for your music.
This is where I am having trouble. I know now that the music I add must be in the media directory on the card. This bothers me though. Right now, all my music is in the root directory and I like it there. When I use my file manager none of the music shows up and thats how I like it, keep music for the walkman, and the rest for the phone. But now I can't add anything other then ringtone to playlists!?! If the walkman can list all music from the root directory, why can't the playlist see that music also????

Is there any other way to organize the music so that I can create playlists, and to also not clutter up my file manager?? When I go to sounds on my file manager, I really only like to look at sounds. Can I have a 'Music' directory under the 'sounds' directory?
