Sharp SX633 Camera Problem?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just got my new phone the other day. It was brand-new. But when I tried out the camera, I got the message "Please check macro switch". I proceeded, and found out I could not zoom in at all.

Then, behind the phone next to the camera, I flipped the switch to the opposite end, tried the camera, and got the same message and inability to zoom.

Is this a problem? Have any of you encountered this?

Please advise.

Thanks

did u check the manual abt the macro switch?

Yes, I have looked at the user guide. It says very little to none on the macro switch

The camera application alway says 'Please check macro switch'. It makes you think there's a problem with the camera, but it's only trying to tell you to make sure the macro switch is set properly because otherwise your picture won't be in focus.

As for the zooming, what resolution are your pics set to? If the camera viewfinder is set to full 1600x1200 resolution, you won't be able to zoom at all. Only smaller resolutions can zoom.

Wow, I didn't know that =.=, nor did the user menu talk about it. Thanks alot!

By the way, which picture size is optimal? The quality of all of them should be the same, right?

Yeah the quality is the same. Digital zoom is just a trick - when used on smaller resolutions the camera module actually switches to a higher resolution, crops a smaller picture out of it and blows it up onto the phone's screen, giving the illusion of zooming. It's good if you're going to take a 240x320 pixel picture to send over MMS, but useless for taking high resolution pictures to store away for good.

So, if you're gonna take pictures to permanently save, just set the camera to 1200x1600 and forget about zooming.

sharp phones have great cameras but sometimes they arent too specific on the use of the features.
