All, I am having problems finding the Cingular/HTC 8500 to buy without a contract. Ebay has nothing, and the Premier site has the 8500, but it seems you must sign up for a 2yr agreement.
Does anybody have any advice on where I can find the 8500? I could go with the 8525, but the camera thing is a bit of a problem at the office. Worst case, I guess I could make it "look" like there is no camera. :-)

If you cannot find the 8500 and need a case, try the Krussel case for it. I have one for my 750 and it covers up the camera and it makes it look like it doesn't have one.

I recently received an 8500 and plan to return it. The reason? Several customer sites I visit do not allow camera-equipped devices. So I thought this would be my solution. Unfortunately, the 8500 simply has a black plug in place of the camera lense (in the center of the small silver lense ring) and another black plug where the flash was. It still looks like it has a camera. And that's a problem for me during site access inspections. Security personnel look at this thing and think it has a camera. Everyone that looks at this thing thinks it has a camera. They should have removed everything off the back of the phone except the external antenna plug.

But it doesn't have a camera. I see your point, but the fact that it doesn't have a camera is the point.
Hmm, not many replies must mean people don't where to get the phone. Maybe I will just end up getting the 8525...boo.

The non-camera versions are hard to get just about anywhere other than the Premier site. I recently had to order a 3100 for my wife and Premier was the only place that appeared to have it. It came the same way with the Cingular Jack logo in place of the camera lense. But it does say 3100 to indicate it is different rather than a sticker over the lense. It is supposed to be approved at her office.

Hmm, I am torn whether to care about my office policy or not...
I can bring in a 200GB USB drive, but a camera phone is not allowed? Seems silly to me...
Does anyone know on the 8525 if I could put a sticker or something over the lens and make it look camera free?
