Appearance
1. Where can I get more themes?
As far as I know, there's only 3, and they came with the phone. I understand only the Japanese version came with more than one, and so the rest of you are stuck with the sunflowers. Where can you get more wall papers? Just about anywhere...take a picture of something. Resize an image using Photoshop or other graphic software (there’s a free image resizer you can use on the internet (google it)) to 240x320 pixels.
2. How do I get rid of the Vodafone Live! banner at the bottom of the screen?
You can’t. The Japanese version of the phone doesn’t have it by default.

Battery Life
1. How long does the battery last?
It depends on usage and reception. Playing your music files, and videos also drains the battery rather rapidly.
2. Why does the first bar take forever to disappear, but the last two drain rather quickly?
The first bar disappears at 50%, the next two are 25% and 10% respectively. It turns red at 9% and less battery life remaining.

Beta Unlock, Repro(visioning) Unlock, and Full Unlock
Beta Unlock gave you full functionality of the phone. However, the phone’s keys would not light up unless you set them to turn on every time after your phone had been powered off. To set your keys so that they light up, Go to settings, Go to backlight, change Time Out to anything but off. Change it to back to whatever you want. Keys should light up now. The Beta unlock will not show the mobile light blinking for incoming calls, missed calls, or text messages. Also, pressing the hang up/power button from the standby screen would turn the phone off (instead of the normal hold hang up/power button). DO NOT MASTER RESET this version of the phone or it won’t work any longer.
Repro Unlock gave everything the Beta Unlock gave while fixing the keys lighting up (no longer had to be turned on, it’s automatic), and the hang up/power button now having to be held down from the standby screen to be turned off. The downside to Repro Unlock is the Re-provisioning screen asking you to search for Updates every time the Main Menu Screen was accessed from standby. The light will now flash during incoming calls, text messages, and missed calls. Master Reset is safe, but you shouldn’t do it unless you absolutely have to.
The Full Unlock featured everything that the Repro Unlock gave while also not asking you to update your phone every time the menu is accessed from the Main Menu.

Beta Unlock Problems
1. My phone froze and/or very slow scrolling through menus. How can I fix this?
This is a sign of a larger problem. As a temporary fix, you can turn it off (it should still turn off), and then take the battery out and replace it. As soon as it powers on, go to Settings/Language change the language, go back to standby screen, then change the language back to the language you were using before. If you go back to the menu, you’ll notice that everything is working normally again. However, over a period of use, the phone will permanently relock itself, so you should upgrade it to a better unlock as soon as possible.

Camera FAQ

1. Does the camera have a flash?
Short answer no, long answer no with a constant light on. I suppose that the phone is supposed to have a flash, but with the unlocking of the phone, a glitch that occurs is the loss of the flash. You can set the camera to have a flash, but instead a constant blinding light is on instead.
2. My photos come out blurry…what’s wrong?
The 903 has a horrible slow shutter speed, and that means you have to keep the camera very still, and your subject can’t be moving either until the photo is completely taken. You can play around with the setting a bit to help (such as “Sports” scene, but it doesn’t help out that much.
3. Can I turn off the shutter sound?
No.

Games FAQ

Games must be formatted in format. You can find great games like DoomRPG and such for free! Many of the games won’t control properly on the 903, but some (like DoomRPG play just fine).

Music, Video, and Ringtone FAQ
There are many different ways to get your Mp3’s, videos, and ringtones to work on the 903, however, I have put my method of doing it and it serves the purpose for this FAQ. The ringing volume on the 903 is quiet due to noise constraints in the home markets that this phone was intended for. There are a number of ways to increase the volume of your ring tones through the file editors used to create your ring tone, or you can just turn the surround feature off.
1. How do I get Mp3’s to play on my 903?
You will have to convert them to M4a or AAC format. You can do this using iTunes for free. Download iTunes here.
2. How can I play videos on my 903?
You will need them to be in 3gp format. You can download a video converter here (the instructions are in Japanese) http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3GP_Converter but I’ll be nice and sum it up for you: Choose 3GPP + AAC General Setting *QVGA Normal Quality 15FPS Stereo.
3. How do I make my own ringtones for my 903?
I’d love to supply a link to the programs needed to make them, but since the URL’s have since changed since I downloaded them, I can’t. I’m sureyou can google them and find them.
4. How do I display the artist’s name for my music?
You can’t. Get over it.

Japanese Language Help
1. I can’t read Japanese, how can I get my phone to read in English?
From the standby screen, press the silver button on your handset. Then move the cursor to the bottom right most icon and press in your silver button. The fifth option down will be in English and will read, “Language,” select that one with your silver button and then choose English.

LCD Remote
1. Where do you buy it?
There’s a few dealers here on HoFo who will be happy to sell it to you. eBay is also a good alternative or you can get it directly from: VODAFONE.co.jp

Phonebook FAQ
For functionality, the U(nited States)SIM cards do not store as much information as J(apanese)SIM cards. Therefore if you are storing your phone numbers on your USIM, the phone book will not work properly. If you are using a USIM on a 903 you should transfer all your contacts to the handset and always save new ones to the handset as well. Furthermore, you cannot store caller ID photos onto the USIMs, but you can on the handset.
1. My Phonebook is out of order! How can I get it into alphabetical order?
On the Japanese versions of the phone, there is a subgroup in your contact’s info called “Reading Order,” and the phone sorts your contacts alphabetically by this field and not by the first name/last name fields.
2. What is “Sort Phone Book by: Kana Order/Reading Order/Category?”
Reading order is what was just described above Japanese reading order first, followed by #, A-Z. Kana Reading Order sorts the contacts into little groupings, such as groups starting with A, B, C, etc. Category will sort your phone book into the categories you have placed your contacts into, by default Category 1, Category 2, etc.

Protecting the Screen and Camera Lens
You can find a pack on eBay specifically to protect your screen and camera lens on eBay for about $2.00 + shipping. It’s a clear plastic rectangle the size of your screen, and a small circular plastic piece the size of your camera lens. For those of you who can’t read Japanese, the thing comes in three pieces, the adhesive backing, a grainy piece so you can see it, and the actual protective film. Remove the adhesive, attach to screen/lens. Now you’ll notice it’s all grainy and this is where most people think it’s a useless ripoff…look a little closer and remove the grainy backing. Now you’ll notice it’s crystal clear and protected from scratches. A great $2.00 investment on a somewhat expensive phone.

Technical FAQ
1. What is the PIN Password?
By default (as specified in the owner’s manual) it is 9999.
2. I’ve seen advertisements or specifications that show the 903 with FM Radio. I can’t find the FM Radio! Does the Sharp 903 offer a FM Radio?
No, this was a mis-representation by some eBayer’s and also Plemix (which they have since corrected).
3. How much memory is on my phone? How do I get more?
The phone’s internal memory is a small 8.0 MB. You can buy a MiniSD to for external memory that you can use to save your larger files such as photos, music and videos. Sizes of MiniSD cards vary from 32MB to 2.0GB.

Voicemail and Answering Machine FAQ
The Answering Machine is more of a novelty than useful outside of Japan (or anywhere else that Voicemail is not free). Just like a home answering machine, it will answer a missed or rejected call and record a message for you to listen to later. It saves it to your phone’s handset memory, and there is no way to change the location of where it is saved. That being said, you cannot store many messages given the phone’s limited amount of memory, and the quality of the message will be dependant on your phone’s reception, as it “answered” the call, instead of forwarded the call to a voicemail box.
1. How do I use the Answering Machine?
Turn the Answering Machine on, and then set it to a time that will pick up the phone call before your voicemail answers it.
2. How do I delete messages from Answering Machine?
While the message you want to delete is playing, press Menu, and then choose Delete.
3. How do I get the English/Japanese Answering Machine and what’s the difference between the two?
There’s no difference, other than the language that is spoken when answering the call. The Japanese one is only available on the Japanese phone.

Text Messaging, SMS/MMS and Email
1. How do I send text messages?
Text messages have to be sent in single byte English. That is the smaller A icon. Here's some Do's & Don'ts for your SMS. First, don't type in anything but Single Byte English characters. Second, don't enter anything in the Subject Line. Japanese 903SH does not have T9 Text, so yes, you will have to type like a 90's cell phone and rapidly press keys to get your desired letters.
2. Can I text message in Japanese?
Yes, but the other person has to have a phone with Japanese text in order to read it, or it just shows up as ????????.
3. Can I Email in Japanese?
Yes, you can also receive Emails in Japanese just fine on your JAPANESE 903.

Miscellaneous
1. How do I use eBook on my 903?
Unless you download from Vodafone directly, you can’t.
2. What’s the difference between the Japanese/UK/HK versions?
The Japanese version is called 903SH, the UK is simply 903, and the HK version is SX833. The UK and HK versions only have one theme, whereas the Japanese version has 3. The Japanese version has Japanese and English text, the HK has Chinese and English text, and the UK only has English. The Japanese keypad has Japanese kana characters on it. The Japanese version features an answering machine in English and Japanese, whereas the other two only have English. The Japanese version doesn’t have the Vodafone Live! banner at the bottom of the screen. Other than that, the phone works the same.

I’m sure I left out some stuff, but this should cover all the basic bases. The point to a forum is for people to come together and help, but it always helps to have a STICKY FAQ to refer to so that people aren’t answering the same questions over and over. Thanks to all those who contributed to the FAQ.

well done. at least i know why i scream when my phone's out of battery.

Posted by: jeebjp

Heh, someone actually tried to write a FAQ. Props for that

Some comments:
Quote:
3. How much memory is on my phone? How do I get more?
I'd actually mention the maximum here, 1Gb.

Quote:
How can I play videos on my 903?

I'd mention the official 903SH wiki page here, at least mentioning the 903SH profiles (clicky)

Quote:
How do I get Mp3’s to play on my 903?

Through the MOOCS player or the Panasonic SD Jukebox (with a compatible SD card reader). And there's always alternatives to iTunes, foobar2000, anyone (actually setting the bitrate down to about 48kbps is good with AAC)?

Quote:
How do I make my own ringtones for my 903?

The Wave Sound Decorator by Yamaha should be used for making MMF (clicky). For the pre-MMF editing I'd suggest Audacity (clicky). The MMF file size should be smaller than 300kb, so aim like that - also making the ringtone mono helps making the file smaller. The 903SH can play back MMF until MA-7. Also with older FW revisions you could fool the Japanese version into taking MP4 AAC files as ringtones by first setting an AMR MP4 file as a ringtone and then quietly changing the file in the phone's memory. The EU version has no DRM restrictions so MP3, MP4 AAC ringtones can be applied with the only limit being 192kpbs bitrate.

Quote:
How do I display the artist’s name for my music?

MP3 should be used. Sharp phones do not recognize MP4 tags in AAC files. The EU version can do this without the MOOCS/ SD Jukebox- DRM, but the Japanese is limited to it.

Quote:
Where do you buy it (LCD remote)?

There's no longer Vodafone K.K. All hail SoftBank Mobile (clicky)

Quote:
U(nited States)SIM== USIM?

LOL, the USIM is a newer version of SIM smart cards, there's AFAIK no such thing as JSIM cards. The Japanese, too, use the phone memory to store phone numbers etc. An old habit from the PDC generation. So the USIM cards in Japan might have more "memory slots" than typical SIM cards in the US, but the "honban" is the "hontai".

Quote:
How do I send text messages?

Just like about Japanese, two-byte messages need to be supported by the receiver's phone. Don't just say "don't use it"

Quote:
Can I Email in Japanese?

AFAIK the Japanese MMS e-mail doesn't work abroad. If the phone had EU version settings and the re-flashed to Japanese it would have the real e-mail and Japanese input, which would make this true. But in any other case the e-mail is limited to MMS and AFAIK it doesn't work... Or it might be operator-dependant, if some other operator uses a system like SoftBank's.

Quote:
How do I use eBook on my 903?

Use this (clicky) in order to transform PC files into compatible ones with Sharp phones. 903SH, too, is compatible. You just need to find right settings.

Quote:
What’s the difference between the Japanese/UK/HK versions?

According to photos taken on the 903SH with EU f/w the EU model's name is V903SH. Not "just 903". And the EU version has many European languages, not only English. And since the firmwares can be flashed on any phone, the phone might be 903SH by looks, but SX833, WX-T91 (the Taiwanese version) or V903SH on the software side.
Quote:
The Japanese version features an answering machine in English and Japanese, whereas the other two only have English.
I don't remember my EU version having answering machine.

I might've not commented on some things, but there's always something that a person can't see the first time.

hey, yis903unposubl ,

Do you mind if I include information from your FAQ? I'm working on a mass Sharp/Japanese phones FAQ - of course you'll get credit for it!

Thanks,

Hey he's back after a long time :-)

Anyways, although the 903 doesn't have a flash the constant light works fairly well for a cellphone. It is definitely not as good as the sony xenon flashes but it gets the work done.

here's a picture i took in total darkness with the mobile light set to automatic.

Thanks for the FAQ! I was wondering if you could clarify something for me though. You mentioned that it is possible to get screen protectors for both the screen and camera. I've just tried to take a look at both ebay as well as yahoo japan and could not find any that sold both pieces. Is there a specific name to the person selling it, or even a store to look for them at?

martin fields, clarivue

It depends on usage and reception. Playing your music files, and videos also drains the battery rather rapidly.

I would mention average 2 days for standard battery and 2-3 days for Momax X-Level 1000mAh extended battery. You may say, that`s only 100mAh more than standard sharp battery, but in fact it last really longer. I think these batteries have more than 1000mAh and I have 2 of them so it`s not coincidence.
1 day or less with extensive usage.

Camera FAQ

Yes it does, at last in euro fw. Of course constant light is on, but when taking picture it makes additional much stronger flash. With last flash setting you can switch extra flash off.

Quote:

I disagree again. Shutter speed depends on light conditions! Like in any other digital camera (at last in auto mode).
In daylight/good light conditions shutter is really fast so there`s no problem with moving objects, even fast moving animals.
Less light = slower shutter speed, but still much faster than most compact digital cameras with flashlight turned off.

Games FAQ

Games must be formatted in format.

Quote:
You can find great games like DoomRPG and such for free! Many of the games won’t control properly on the 903, but some (like DoomRPG play just fine).

Depends on point of view, these games are still playable, you don`t have to use d-pad/soft keys to play them, standard keyboard works well enough.

Quote:
1. How do I get Mp3’s to play on my 903?
You will have to convert them to M4a or AAC format. You can do this using iTunes for free. Download iTunes here.

Or you can just listen mp3`s in your 903, if you have euro fw. CBR and 192kbps max supported. No DRM restrictions.

I’d love to supply a link to the programs needed to make them, but since the URL’s have since changed since I downloaded them, I can’t. I’m sureyou can google them and find them.

Yamaha Wave Sound Decorator for mmf ringtones (all firmwares), mmf ringtone can be max 300kB in size.
CBR, 192kbps max mp3s (euro fw only) or aac files on all firmwares.

Quote:
4. How do I display the artist’s name for my music?
You can’t. Get over it.

Really? My 903 shows mp3 ID tag in music player, can`t be the only 903 able to do this...

Quote:
3. How much memory is on my phone? How do I get more?
The phone’s internal memory is a small 8.0 MB. You can buy a MiniSD to for external memory that you can use to save your larger files such as photos, music and videos. Sizes of MiniSD cards vary from 32MB to 2.0GB.

903 supports up to 1GB.

You forgot that UK (euro) fw doesn`t have ringtone/music drm restrictions, has english T9 and 10 more euro languages, not only english! Also it doesn`t have answering machine by default. Only if your phone was flashed to euro fw then in service mode you can switch on answering machine and remove network name from screen.

In case you guys didnt notice. On my Sx833, the LED light goes brighter when you take a picture. haha does that consider as flash? of course not as good as xenon. but still good to have it keke

i don't know if it true or not, cuz i haven't own a 903 yet, but i brought one used from ebay and it being shipped soon. But i read from other forums and sites, and they say that sharp 903 doesn't last that long.. It mostly last like 2 years and it dies. And it causes some major problems during the way.. Is that true?

Posted by: ace587

i hope thats not true

Posted by: Ultraman666

very much doubt it I have had a several sharps going all the way back to the gx series and everyone that I have sold them to are still working without a problem, I have had my 903sh for over a 1 1/2 with no problems at all... knock on wood

Posted by: horent135

ok thanks for clearing it up, i was a bit afriad there. cuz i never had a phone that went down on me and wasn't my fault.

Posted by: dragon208

well done! answered most of the questions i would have asked prior getting my Sharp 903.. which i miss now that i sold it! :-(

Posted by: bado

I'm not familiar with Sharp phones but I'm looking at 903. I'm just wondering if I bought the phone in Eroupe, can I use it in Canada?

Thanks,

Ralph

Sounds like you're clicking the middle rather than the top soft key.

There's an option for saving sent messages. Tried this?

it's a great FAQ!! but concerning the video, i can convert any format of video into 3gp to play with my cellphone, but my question is how can i get it play as "RING VIDEO"? lots of video that i converted, i can play them, but as soon as i want set it as ring video, it says "cannot assign, this data is not supported". any help?

Posted by: benrailey

U just have to reduce the file size of the video... sharp phones has low internal memory (8MB) so if you want to play ring videos you have to reduce its size... I have the pepsi commercial video as my ring video its like 1.9 MB
hope this helps

I have a lot of question with my 903. First of all I love this phone, I just bought it second hand. My concern is that whenever its folded, it keeps on rebooting, i dont even know why that happens. Is there something wrong with my phone?

another thing, I have heard so much about the videos and all, I would like to have that also, but I dont know how.

I have tried to activate my MMS and GPRS but when I called my network provider (Globe phils) they said that they do not support sharp phones. What can I do?

Last thing,I have downloded some mp3s and put it in my memory card, but the thing is, i cant find it in the play list. but when i plug my mem card in my pc, i can see the song. How can I be able to play these mp3s?

I get that problem whenever I shut the flip too hard, now I'm very gentle whenever I'm closing the flip and it's fine

What FW are you using?

ok, so what do I do now?

Posted by: emjhay27

i got a firmware of AA240
what firmware is that
can that firmware play games...

Posted by: mun1ng

The MMF file size should be smaller than 300kb, so aim like that - also making the ringtone mono helps making the file smaller.

The 903SH can play back MMF until MA-7. Also with older FW revisions you could fool the Japanese version into taking MP4 AAC files as ringtones by first setting an AMR MP4 file as a ringtone and then quietly changing the file in the phone's memory. The EU version has no DRM restrictions so MP3, MP4 AAC ringtones can be applied with the only limit being 192kpbs bitrate.

***about the sentence in bold letters. How do you actually do it?? could you please give me a step by step wallk through. Im really not good at this.

1) Are the HK SX833 factory unlocked?

2) Can a Jap 903SH be flashed into a SX833 without any glitches or problems found in a UNLOCKED Japanese 903SH?

file too big

try using memory card + card reader
videos should be in 3gp fomat @ max of 320 X 240 @ 15fps

anymore its overkill + it wont work

remmeber ur limited to how much memory u got in the phone.

unlike the 904sh it auto saves to phone memory rather then a choice of either phone or memory card

The file size fits on my phone and I even tried to "move" it to my 1gb mini SD and still wont play. Its a simple 4min music video. all my music videos wont work...I tried everything except the "max of 320 X 240 @ 15fps" how do I chenge it and stuff? haha I also use Xilisoft.

Please help me!

I've a 1.5 years old SHARP V903. It worked excellent but in two weeks ago its battery was empty, so it turned off, and i've plugged to charge it. But the red light on the side has started to blinking red, not to be red continously!
About 3-4 sec than it's blinking, and again and again.

The problem is that the phone don't turning on!!

I thought that the battery went wrong so I've bought a new one.
But the same thing happens with the other battery too!
The phone red indicator just blinking, and don't turning on!
I've tried to change the SIM card, changed the battery but don't solve this problem.
maybe my V903 went wrong?

Or what could happen?
Has anybody the same problem here?

Thanyk for any answer, I'm waiting it wery excited!

Mark

Try borrowing another charger or trying another voltage. I've had a few weird problems like that with phone & charger interacting differently than when I first got the phone. Wish you the best....

Hi,this is my first post,I read all rules about free unlocking questions and that stuff..although I have a question..
I live in portugal, and afaik guys here don't work too much with sharp,so is there any source where I could get some info about unlocking a 903?So I could point some one on the right direction to full unlock my 903..
If mods understand that what I am asking is not following the rules, just tell me that I will edit.
Other thing,in this sticky you say "Beta Unlock gave you full functionality of the phone." what functionalities do I get unlocking the mobile from the vodafone normal firware/software?

Can someone tell me this before I buy a 903sh. I live in the US. The 903 I'm about to buy has euro firmware supposedly.

1) Any full unlock 903sh can be flashed, does that mean I can put japan or hk fw over the original euro firmware? If so, is there a tutorial for flashing a 903? (flashing means to change the firmware right?) Sorry if i missed it but i just finished reading all 4 pages of this FAQ.

2) Here it says:

Quote:

And

Quote:
You forgot that UK (euro) fw doesn`t have ringtone/music drm restrictions, has english T9 and 10 more euro languages, not only english! Also it doesn`t have answering machine by default. Only if your phone was flashed to euro fw then in service mode you can switch on answering machine and remove network name from screen.

Does this mean, the only thing that the EU firmware doesnt have compared to JP and HK is mainly the languages and the lack of Vodafone Live! banner at the bottom of the screen?

3) About this quote:

Quote:
The EU version has no DRM restrictions so MP3, MP4 AAC ringtones can be applied with the only limit being 192kpbs bitrate.

Is the 192kpbs bitrate considered poor quality compared to MP4 AAC ringtones?

4) If you were me, living in the US, you would use EU, JP, or HK firmware? Just wondering. If you have specific reasons, please tell me why. Trying to get more ideas, thanks!

regarding your fw question:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1158645 (uk vs jp)
http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=767536 (tw, uk, jp, hk)

depends on what you need.
for me, i'm chinese, living in usa. i just bought one with hk fw because i like being able to input chinese~ and it was a good price. : D ( mainly because it was a good price - if it was uk i'd be fine, and if it was jp i'd be fine, too, since i can speak jp.. haha )

ask yourself these questions:
- do you need to be able to input other languages ? if so, which one?
--- get jp if you need jp, hk if you need ch. simple.
- do you care about mp3 vs mmf/aac ringtone support ?
--- it's not hard to convert, i don't see this as a big problem. if you're too lazy to convert from mp3, get uk.
- do you care about changing theme/having fullscreen wp?
--- once again, not a big deal, unless you're hellbent on it for some strange reason, in which case, get jp.
- do you care about repro problem?
--- if you do, don't get jp. can be an annoyance, but, once again, not a big deal.

those are the main differences, and, personally, i don't think they're even that big. it's mostly a matter of what input you want. ( because i don't think T9 is that important ? but if you text a lot, yeah i suppose that's a big deal then. )

i think if i were you i would choose uk, beacuse it doesn't seem like you specifically need anything else.

hope that helped.. just me rambling haha. (:

How do I turn on the keypad light?

Posted by: TINGTING<3

so if i wanted this phone.. and i wanted T9.. which version should i be getting?!

and plus what's the net price of the phone brand new right now? since it's like 2years old..

you would be getting the euro version.

brand new will be hard to find but about 500 - 600 CAD shipped.

you can get a refub (refurbed by Softbank), imho they are exactly the same as new for 400 - 500 cad shipped.

used ranges from 200 - 400 depending on condition.

For this phone, the price is not based solely on the age or features. There is a large community of people who love this phone and want to use it because its so good.

I am using an SE k810 but I really miss my old 903.

I'd like to ask if it's really true that the Japanese firmware is able to handle outbound AND inbound MMS Messages?
Also in another thread somebody said that it's possible. But before buying a 903sh I have to be sure about that, because I need the Japanese firmware...

Posted by: aw614

i think if you flash it from japanese to euro and back to japanese the same way that temp removes repro, mms works I think

I have no phone access atm cos of this ********!!

i posted this somewhere else but no one is relying, you help would be greatly appreciated!

Posted by: squeenix

May I ask again if anybody can definitely confirm that inbound MMS works on the Japanese firmware, after the flashing-reflashing procedure?

Posted by: squeenix

Seems like a really difficult question... Didn't any of you mobile flashing pros try that before?

Posted by: tom_asdelonge18

i guess not thats why no one is answering :P

Posted by: squeenix

Ya, maybe. But I wonder why is nobody trying it. Would be much appreciated...

Posted by: tom_asdelonge18

i thought the mms would work for the 903sh if you have the correct settings provided by your provider

Posted by: squeenix

...only on EU firmware...
on JP firmware it works only for outbound MMS...

I suppose because he made it partially Japan firmware to remove the operator ID, thus you are unable to play mp3. Try setting back to normal.

Incoming MMS will not work for Japanese firmware. But if your set is made before Oct 05, you may flash the UK then flash the Japanese firmware over it. This allow you to have Japanese firmware with over 160 characters sms limit, and enable the GPRS and MMS to work.

Posted by: tom_asdelonge18

would that work if you have an euro version flashed to hk version or a jap version flashed to hk?

You will need them to be in 3gp format. You can download a video converter here (the instructions are in Japanese) http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3GP_Converter but I’ll be nice and sum it up for you: Choose 3GPP + AAC General Setting *QVGA Normal Quality 15FPS Stereo.

Videos downloaded from YouTube are .flv format. You will need to find a .flv to .avi/.mpeg converter first, then convert to .3gp.
