Sony Ericsson W300i or Cingular SYNC?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I currently use a Cingular 8125 and have a Motorola L2 collecting dust, I'm tired of my 8125 and the L2 doesn't have the features I'm looking for. Main focus is call quality/reliability, ease of text messaging is secondary, and MP3 capable is a must (even if it's only 4-5 songs/16MB). I currently have a small collection of various mini USB cables/chargers and SD/MiniSD cards and I'm not sure if either of my options have mini USB ports but I saw the SYNC uses MicroSD which I can get an SD adapter for it to use with my current SD/MiniSD applications. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. Also, I'm getting them through Cingular's Premier site so price/contract isn't an issue for either.

I have a Sync & am happy with it so far. Without a microSD card, there's about 50MB to play with (you may have to delete the demo games and so forth to maximize space). I got a 1GB card & reader and don't regret it.

Does the Sync use mp3 ringtones? I heard it`s only mmf.

yea they use mp3

Consumer Reports would tell you w300i all the way. I would have to agree with them. A SE or a Samsung? Wouldn't be to difficult to me.

Thanks for the replies, I ended up ordering the SYNC on my lunch break, it will be here tomorrow morning according to FEDEX. I will also pick up the w300i since it's only $18 shipped also and whichever one I don't like I will give to my girlfriend and sell our old phones on Craigslist or eBay.

the two phones are worlds apart....If multitasking while mp3s are playing is a deal breaker for you, then the w300i is probably the best option. Otherwise the SYNC smokes it in all other fields... In addition, the SYNC is probably a couple weeks away from being fairly customizable, so most of the bigger gripes about it should be fixed sometime soon

I thought multitasking with music would be a critical feature for me but the more I think about it the less important it really is.

I sure hope customization of the SYNC is coming soon. I really like the phone but hope to fix the nagging issues (the locking of the external keys is #1 for me).

$18? Can you say from where?

Posted by: Robdec

Yeah the Sync does have it's down sides with not being able to multitask but I still think it blows away the 300i in just about every other area. Since your getting both just play around with them and see which one fits your needs better.

What is their "Premier Site" ?

Can you give us a link or the web site address ?

Thanks !

If your company has a deal/account setup with Cingular they'll have the URL for you. I just found out I'm allowed unlimited upgrades regardless of when my contract was started but each upgrade still requires the $18 fee and extends your contract 2 years but the free overnight shipping is worth it. I ordered the SYNC on my lunch break yesterday at 11:30AM and my phone arrived at 11AM this morning.

I don't know, so far I'm loving the a707. I'll order the w300i next month as long as it's still $18 and then compare them.

I have access to the premier site as well how can i tell if I have unlimited upgrades or not??

Posted by: ZKuJoe

I read in a thread on here that Premier users have unlimited upgrades so I tried upgrading prior to my earliest upgrade date on Cingular's site and I got the a707(Sync) for $67 shipped overnight. The w300i is $18 shipped overnight for me.

EDIT: Also, I was able to upgrade my girl's phone (shared account) 32 days after she got here new phone (of course it would break 1 day after the 31 day store's return policy).
