Would you recommend a V3x to a non 3G customer?

Looking at the new v3x...with the nicer UI and all the nice additions, would you recommend it to someone who does not live (and will not be for some time) in a 3g area? I use the internet quite a bit, and Opera Mini is nice, but is the phone worth it if you won't be using 3g?

A couple of other questions...since I haven't got to play with the phone too much and the UI seems to have changed a bit:

1. can you assign a ringer to a person, and have it play only when they call (not when they message you as well?)
2. Does the speakerphone work well (full duplex) when just talking...or is there a delay or cut out on either end? (V3r is bad about this...)

EDIT--yes I mean v3xx...too many letters to keep up with. LOL

You mean the V3xx right?? The V3x is a totally different design and not offered by Cingular.
Overall I am very happy with my V3xx (even though im waiting on the N75). The UI is a thousand times better than it was before.

I dont live in a 3G area, but I do work in one. Even with EDGE speeds this phone does fine.

To answer your questions:
1. I am not sure. There is an option for a Ringer ID for each Contact, but not sure if you can assign a different ringtone for a message from a said contact.
2. I have had no issued with the speakerphone (other than it cant be used when closed.)

I'm assuming you mean the v3xx. As far as 3g and the different ui. Its not much different than other razrs. So if you won't be using 3g, I would hold off.

Thanks, good answers...let me clarify and ask another question.

Ringer ID on the old Moto's used to allow different ringers for different people. The problem is, whether that person called or sent you a SMS/MMS, the ring would be the same. So I would end up answering the phone when I got a text message. Wonder if this has changed?

The speakerphone issue I've heard of...wonder if there will be a fix for this in the future? It's not a huge inconvienence, but an inconvienence none the less.

Oh ... gotcha. No, if you assign a generic tone for messages that will be the ONLY tone played for messages from anyone, EVEN IF you have a unique Call Ringtone for each Contact.
Does that make sense?? In other words say you have BELLS set up as your TXT Message ringtone and you have Bits&Bytes set up for Mom's Ringtone right?? If mom sends you a txt message you will only hear BELLS. If she calls you, you will hear Bits&Bytes....

Nice! That was one of my biggest gripes on the RAZR V3. Maybe I'll have to pick up a V3xx (really Moto, could you come up with a better name) to tide me over while I wait for the N75.

This phone actually sells under the name of Motorola V3 Maxx in some places ((It's basically a Motorola V6 Maxx Light ))

this is not what my phone does. If i have setup a ringtone for a contact, regardless of if they call or text, that's the ringtone that plays.

Really? Not mine. I just set mine up and had 3 different people call me. I assigned them all a different ringtone and used a generic tone for txt messages.

They all called me and i got each rington. When they texted me, i recieved the generic txt tone and not their unique ringtones.
