can we download this any where?

Sources? Link or Screenshot of your device.

Not even xda-developers has broken this news yet.

Posted by: monkey28rb

i looked on htc and nothing there yet just the current one that we all probably have now... if anyone finds out how to get the new one post it thanks..

That link has the last post in Dec. Anywhere else we can find it to download?

Posted by: mush10

I checked out HTC America and they still only have the old ROM available for download.

it is coming, it has not been released

Posted by: mikeruoc

And is that going to happen today?

Posted by: metalsiren

I still don't see it.... I hope its soon....

Posted by: mikeruoc

Well nothing was released yesterday and so far nothing today. My guess is we have plenty more time to wait.

Posted by: mush10

I don't think we are any closer today, then we were in December. I'd say the title of this thread is a little misleading.

It is a little misleading but it will be released soon. Check the XDA forum for their upload via FTP. If it gets leaked before its offically hosted on HTC's website you will find it there.

Posted by: .7

Ive reopened this thread as this ROM is close to public release.

Posted by: dfresh305

Some Great Person uploaded it xda

Posted by: wpbear

Here is the update, it is at XDA FTP which is getting really busy right now to download.

I hosted it here too.

Posted by: .7

FYI.

This ROM has not offically been released, its been leaked so use at your own risk as Im sure its not a finished product.

Posted by: irockash

Are there any concerns we should know about before doing this? Has anyone had any problems with it? And most importantly, hows the PTT? Ah ha.

Posted by: mush10

I think I will wait for the official release from htc.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

Just updated the firmware on my 8525. So far no troubles had to set up the device again of course. We do have an at&t boot up screen now The 3G splash screen is here like on the regular 3G phones.

Posted by: Sleuth255

Just a few thoughts here:

If you're not a phone-hacking bithead, I'd wait for Cingular's official release on established sites. Otherwise, please get to know your 8525 by carefully reading through the material over at XDA before choosing to update from what's posted there. The 8525 device is a real PITA when it comes to customized rom updates. There's a lot you can do but you must become very familiar with hermes ideosyncracies to do it.

Bottom line is that this ROM (as well as what will soon be posted officially) has the 1.0108 radio bootloader. If you don't know what this means, please find out before trying the update available on XDA! The Hermes Wiki has your answers.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

Crap, I wish I would have read that! Looks like no more firmware flashing for me

Posted by: Sleuth255

Let me clarify a bit:

the new update is aku3.3 with PTT. Very worthwhile for the average user. I'd do it in a minute myself if I was one. However, wait for the official release on HTC's site before leaping if this is the path you want to go down.

OTOH....

If you are intrigued about the possibility of lighting up your built in GPS or ever running WM6 then doing this update could lock you out of any developments here.

The XDA developers have not found an easy way to upgrade to any of these advanced features yet. This is why I advise reading up on hermes ideosyncracies before deciding what is best for yourself.

The official AKU 3.3 release will add many features to your 8525:

Internet sharing
Improved A2DP
Performance improvements
PTT support
Better 3G - 2G handoffs
Bug fixes

To most, this is more than enough given the fact that advanced flashing, if done incorrectly, can brick your $400 device.

So, sit back, relax & wait for the website release. And, if you're getting bored waiting, do a little light reading on hermes development. Information is power.

Posted by: mferni

I upgraded to this ROM, and it seems quicker and more responsive. The 3rd party app I have seem to work better, Fizz Weather.

Most importantly, the signal change appears to be 'seamless' when I change from 2G to 3G and back to 2G. This is the way the phone should have worked to begin with.

On the 1.34 ROM I had problems of dropping all signals and problems re-acquiring when in a 3G fringe area. Seems to work 'correctly' now, but more observation is needed.

Posted by: mush10

Sounds promising. I can't wait to upgrade.

Good warning to others but I think most users in the general population wont ever understand or care about the new radio BL. Doing the full RUU for most is the safest and best for normal users.

We all know that if you are even attempting anything at XDA then you should not be considered a normal user and you should READ everything more than once.

Wirelessly posted (something hot.: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

will this work with backup files of previous ROMs?

Posted by: nskgti23

The best part about this ROM is that it says H/E/G depending on what network you are on. I'm wondering if it will say U if I'm on a UMTS only network like some European/Asian countries. Personally I prefer the H over the 3G that comes standard on the ROM.

Posted by: exchguy

Anyone know if this rom is the final code? Hopefully will hit the HTC site soon if this is the final.

H = HSDPA?
E = EDGE?
G = GPRS?
Why wouldn't it also have a U for UMTS?

I know right now it's G = GSM (GPRS/EDGE) and U = UMTS. (UMTS/HSDPA)

I doubt it's final. It has a couple of issues that need to be resolved first. One is a volume issue that occur because of the new Animation on boot up. Another is pass through internet doesn't work when its connected through ActiveSync. Maybe there is an easy setting change to fix this, but I can't use my PC Internet through USB or Bluetooth, without a Reg Edit. But the reg edit causes other issues. So right now I'm only using 3G.
One thing I love about this ROM is how Internet Explorer handle pictures. It now displays them inside Internet Explorer. It automatically resizes them to fit your screen, but you can uncheck that option. Then if you want to download the full picture it has a Save As option built into the menu. Now if only they could get emails to display pictures/html.

Posted by: nskgti23

Right now it is 3G, E or G on the new ROM. With a reg edit it says H, E and G. I am not going to Europe or Asia for at least a couple months so I won't be able to test the U until then.

Two questions for those that have used the new ROM. First, has it done anything to improve the reception and/or signal? And second, has it done anything to improve the Bluetooth connection, that is, stopped a headset or handsfree connection (via a car) from disconnecting randomly?

Thanks for any info on these issues.

Posted by: mikeruoc

I would say

1. Yes

2. Yes

My phone calls use to drop to GSM alot. Since I have updated I have yet to see it do it. As far as the BT I have not seen it lose connection with my BT headset. But I have only run it 1.5 days. Time will tell.

Posted by: nutnbolt

I'll wait till it fully releases. Till then, I can't or won't touch it.

Posted by: monkey28rb

I have it, it works great.. I fixed thr sound issue with a rig edit

Posted by: mush10

I am holding out for the official version as well. I don't trust myself enough.

I have had a couple of days to review the new ROM, and yes, it overall works better than the old 1.34. I still have some problems (albeit less) making calls in 3G areas. Not sure why.....

No manually re-install your stuff and use activesync for contacts and email.

has anyone actually used the ptt function on the 8525? how clear and well does it work?

I'm curious about this as well.

I'll probably never use the damn feature, but, well, ya know...

Posted by: irockash

the ptt is available at 15cents a minute on a pay peruse basis... for anyone who wants to maybe try it out.

Posted by: -DZ-

I installed the new ROM and haven't really noticed a lot of difference outside of the AT&T Branding, 3G icon, and the PTT function enabled. However, I haven't really used it heavily like I do on the weekdays as I did the upgrade late Friday night.

I did try Cingular Video and it told me that I was in need of a compatible data plan before I watched any clips, but at least it looked like it wanted to roll...

I kept hitting the PTT button on accident and it kept asking me to set up a PTT name. Finally I tried, and it just said something about "Please contact Cingular for PTT service"

Oh, I can't stream XM anymore either with this ROM. :-(

Posted by: nutnbolt

Where can we download this?

Posted by: suthurnlatino

Did anyone have problems when they power cycle their 8525s after installing this ROM? My Phone is constantly in flight mode after turning it off and then on. It is probably some regedit fixable error but I haven't had time to look at it. Tethering was easier with the new ROM however.

Posted by: wpbear

turn your phone on then do a soft reset , this is a common problem on WM5 like a cold that once you get the problem it takes a few resets to get rid of. The old ROM did this to me alot.

XM radio can work through Opera Mobile on www.xstreamxm.com/mobile

I couldnt get it to open through IE probably due to the proxy setting.

Good find DZ.

Does anyone know if Sleuths PTT Hack will still work?
I like having the extra programable button.

Posted by: kassper

I installed this. Seems to be a lot better than my previous version. Couple of bugs with it, when the phone is on vibrate and you turn it on the startup vid still has sound. Also, the PTT function won't work for me. It says "registering" then it comes back saying I have to contact cingular. Anyone else getting that?

You have to sign up for the PTT service.

Hey MVT
To get your answer, you'll need to go to xda-developers and read ALL the threads over there.
You Slacker!

Posted by: irockash

Quick question about cingular video... on the new rom, does it still play in real player?

Posted by: Kelkin

From what people have posted on XDA, you can get Cingular Video on the 8525 if you place your SIM in a 3G phone which already has Cingular Video capability built in, then removing it and sticking it back in yours. You also need the updated ROM which has the correct version of realplayer in it. There's a good thread on it over there but the website is barely accessible right now.

Posted by: anubis9278

microsoft has demanded that xda pull all rom flashes. go figure

You might actually learn something in that Wiki. It is VERY good. I am sure you have many more SHORT questions that will be answered their too.

Thanks.

Sorry to pester you with questions wpbear.

Posted by: mush10

Does anyone know if the new rom has any fixes so that when you answer a call with the phone locked it will end the call at the today screen? When I end a call currently if I have anwered it with the phone locked it is stuck on the call end screen and I have to unlock it to get back to the today screen. Sometimes I even get stuck because the unlock does not reappear in the soft key.

Posted by: theralpher

Quote:

It works but not right. If I initiate a ptt, it does OK. If someone ptt me, it comes thru as a phone call with caller id showing up but having 33 added to the end of their number, ie: 000-000-000033. When you press answer, the initiator receives the tone that acknowledges your answer but all of the sound comes thru the headset instead of the speakerphone, as in a phone call. You can go in and switch to speakerphone but it should not function that way. Also, you do have to have some sort of ptt plan to use this. Even the pay per use (ppu)plan needs to be added to your phone by cingy/att before using the ptt feature. The ppu is free to add to your plan.

Others have had same experience but some have not.

Posted by: lewnetoons

what was the regedit you did to fix the startup sound issue, I have looked through the reg and can find it? thx

Posted by: trjons

It was in the Hermes Wiki under Registry (near the bottom....animation startup).

My issues now are:

1. On a reset it always alerts me I have an unread SMS....but when I check, there are none.

2. Can't get Sleuths SIPChange to work.

Posted by: berdinkerdickle

Well I'm finally back up and running.
Thanks MVT.

Infact I was just coming over here to find that animation disable reg.

I spent most the day trying to get Exchange to sync.
Now I'm starting to load up my apps.

Posted by: trjons

berd....

glad to hear it went well!

yeah the animation was kind of annoying! I'm happy with it skipping the delay!

Posted by: Sleuth255

I'm using SIPChange on this ROM to default to the block recognizer and it works ok. I did see somebody having issues with the phonepad SIP however. I've not tried it myself tho...

Posted by: trjons

I'm having the problem with PhonePad as well.

Nice job Steve I sure want to feel foolish for spending over half a grand on an iPhone that'll be outdated in a few months.

Sorry if this is "old news" but I hadn't seen it yet.

Apple Hard At Work Making iPhone Obsolete
February 12, 2007 | Issue 43•07

CUPERTINO, CA—Only a month after the much-heralded announcement of the iPhone, Apple CEO Steve Jobs confirmed that his engineers were already working around-the-clock on the touchscreen smartphone's far-superior replacement. "We looked at [the iPhone's] innovative user interface, the paradigm-shifting voicemail, the best-in-class mobile browser, and we realized we could make all that seem ridiculously outdated by the time the product becomes available to customers in June," said Jobs, who described the project as "Apple reinventing the iPhone." "When the second-generation iPhone comes out this fall, we want iPhone users to feel not just jealous, but downright foolish for owning such laughably primitive technology." Jobs also hinted that the second iPhone device would not be compatible with existing Mac computers, third-party peripherals, or any future Apple products.

I was very reluctant to flash with this new ROM.. I do consider myself a power user and had never done a mtty flash to maintain the bootloader but It does seem like a great upgrade.. I have not been having the issues posted above but the issues I was having with the old rom seem to have been cleared up.. Opening messages resulted in still showing the today screen before: issue is gone.. My 8525 seems quicker and button presses are much more responsive.. The battery is night and day.. I thought I was going to have to buy a new battery before but after the flash and all my original installs this thing has regained it's original battery life.. Makes me wonder how long I could go with a new bat.. 4 days? If you think you want to do this upgrade with mtty, read the How-tos and the thread at xda, at least through the first 4 pages.. Get some insight about where people are going wrong/ making mistakes.. I think it is worth it..

Posted by: teknics

I flashed through MTTY also, upgraded my radio stack and kept the 1.04 bl.

Few things I have noticed with the 3.3 AKU rom....

Egress RSS makes the device freeze when clicking a heading on the today screen. I uninstalled it and emailed the programmer. Once I uninstalled, no more freezing.

Every now and then my phone goes into flight mode on reboot. I think I remember reading that somewhere - can't find it.

I also had a problem going into 3g today, but it has since stopped.

Everything else seems to be rock solid, although I get interference on the internal speaker of the phone all of a sudden.

There is a new ROM cooker out now so there is no need to use mtty and take the chance. I have two cooked ROMs if you do not want to do it yourself. PM me Ill send it to you

I have complete ROM Update (Shipped Update Style RUU)
ROM: 2.06.502.3
Radio:1.27.00.00
SPL: 1.04

or

ROM: 2.06.502.3
Radio:1.33.00.00
SPL: 1.04

MTTY is really easy to use, I did see that cooker that was recently released though.

XDA has been slow because of the mad rush on roms.....so I havn't been reading much.

Mtty is easy, but it seems that many unexperienced users are bricking their devices by not taking their time. When the ROM first came out I used mtty due to the scare of radio bl 108, but since then I have flashed and used the new RUU complier, it is much easier and all proccess are GUI from making the ROM to installing the ROM. I would be happy to make a RUU for anyone uneasy about doing it themselves.

This is for unassigning PTT to the PTT button.
Many of us who don't use PTT want to assign that 5th button to Voice Dial.
And Slueth's Fix gives us that 5th button back.

Smart Dialer coment:

Some are having issues with new ROM and no smart dialer. I had no problems, but I also know that installing ETen Big Button Dialer (available at 8525software.com) disables Smart Dialer. So I tested it. Install ETen and as supposed too, no smart dial. Then I unistall ETen and the smart dial is back working ok. Also in the phone screen the right soft key has an option for the Smart Dialer, make sure it is turned on.

Yea, but the funny thing is; even though while we're in 'phone', and choose menu/smartdialing options, it wont open.
So we don't even have the option to enable it.

Posted by: theralpher

Forget the Eten Dialer and skins. It is way too big and not needed anymore.

I have used a Vista themed dialer I found that I am very happy with. It does NOT require the ETEN dialer (remove it you have it) and works fine with smartdialing. You can get it here:

http://www.ppctuning.org/download/j...ista_dialer.cab

The other thing I love about this rom is the size. If you look around you will notice most the the dialer skin cabs are around or over a meg. That means those large files take up room in you main memory storage AND in system memory when the phone is loaded. This skin cab is under 100k so it's system footprint is tiny and it feels faster on phones with lower memory as a result.

I am currently using it on my phone with no problem.

Speaking of smart dialer, I posted a PTTFix update (v1.05) on 2/26 that fixes the "smartdialer disabled "bug.

Sleuth,

Any fix for the PTTFix issue with AKU3.3? It seems to work only for a short time since i installed the new ROM, and then it goes back to PTT functionality.

Thanks!!!

I'm pretty sure he's been updating Post #1 as he Releases New Versions.

He might have forgot to change his 'Reason for Editing' to 1.05 Released!

Posted by: Sleuth255

sorry for the confusion I always post new updates within the threads so the folks watching like hawks can beta test (usually, these guys are the ones who need the fix the most too). If all goes well, I go "official" by updating post 1 with the new cab and an updated changelog.....

missed "reason for editing" problem tho.... thanks!

And what will the difference be when it is official, you can still brick the phone just as easy as before when it was leaked.

How is that exactly ?

I think doing it thru the official site, the process would be easier.

But that's just me, tell me how I'm wrong in waiting for HTC or Cingular to put it out in it's final form.

The file will still be an exe just like the leaked file was. You plug your device to activsync wait till its done then execute the exe file. Make sure you turn all power control off the computer and make sure you have at least 50% batt on the device. Blah, blah....... and all the other warnings. They can not make it any safer or easier, an exe file is as easy as it gets. Do you feel better if you download the file from HTC site? I dont at least we know the bugs better when the REAL power users at XDA test them out.

I did the upgrade and everything seems fine so far. The only BIG IRRITATION is that my MICROSOFT Voicecommand no longer functions!! As much as I am glad to have the PTT Feature, I am very dissapointed to lose the Voicecommand. Anybody have any suggstions or patch links to fix it?

Which version of MS Voice Command do you have? I am using 1.5 and have (2) Cinguar 8525 phones that I went to 2.06 rom on. I lost voice command on both phones.

Has anyone tried this on another WM5 device, namely the treo 750? Curious because of Programs work on both. Any reason why it wouldnt work?

Posted by: b3p0

do NOT install on 750. ROM builds are device-specific. You could do some serious damage by installing on a 750, if it would even allow you to start the ROM flashign.

Posted by: bluemax189

ok got it. i want ptt on my treo though.

Posted by: theboeuf

Just for clarification, has anyone used the ROM update provided by wpbear above? Is this the same update that everyone is discussing or a different one? I only ask because the "READTHIS.txt" file states:

"Modified RUU Updater by Olipro

This is a modified RUU Updater I have created..."

I am having trouble with receiving PTT calls. They come in as a regular call except the caller's phone number has a 33 behind it.... example 555-555-555533 and you cannot answer it as a ptt call.. I can PTT people who have regular PTT phones but cannot receive their PTT calls. I have called Cingular but that is proved UNFRUITFUL at BEST. Any experience with this phoenomenon?

to fix this you need to put your sim into a non ptt phone and then ptt call should stop showing up

Posted by: Naveen

i am a complete idiot. i did the update, and forgot to backup my calendar and contacts, whoops?!? but, i do have a cool new att 8525 now!!!

Posted by: mspingeld

So....is Cingular ever going to officially release a new ROM for this device?

Posted by: ddonham

I am still having trouble with receiving ptt calls. I did as suggested by putting my sim card in a NON PTT device. This only fixes the problem for a day at most. Any one else have a suggestion for a more permanent fix for the "33" PTT incoming call issue?

I herd it was going to be released today but that never happened.

Posted by: ddonham

I have never put my sim card in any PTT phone before i had my 8525 upgraded to PTT. Would changing my sim card work? It is about 30$ for a new sim card.

Posted by: ddonham

I changed the SIM Card today with Cingular. That DID NOT fix the problem!! So I am back to square 1

Posted by: ddonham

I see the release is out on the htc site. Has anyone tried it yet?
