Why do they block every website except the few ones they allow?

Corporate's answer to this would probably be, "To increase productivity at work", is my guess. They probably don't want you surfing the internet when you can be doing work related tasks.

We'll, when someone asks how to export Palm Desktop contacts to Outlook and Cingular support is useless, access to Google to help the customer would have been good.

I chose to make a house call after work to help this guy.

I'd post a possible workaround, but the last time I did it DIED a week later...

Our company does the same... but our IT department is fairly easily swayed when it comes to unblocking. For instance, HoFo, engadgetmobile, and phonescoop are all unblocked, along with most manufacturer and competitor sites. Those make sense... but someone also managed to get Engadget.com unblocked.

Google is kind of a mixed bag though... Its great to look up answers, but they're still links to other sites. So its either block them all or allow them all.

Errr! I wish more companies would block sites at work, it's getting worse than voice mail...the licence to stray from a desk! Just seeing people gathering to watch the {sic} TV sends me up a wall!

If anyone knows who those reps that work( ) at the Arundel Mills corp store show them this thread please(manager will do too)!

I ran this through Babelfish in spanish and russian but still can't read it. Can someone translate?

My job has MobileBurn and Phonescoop unblocked. You think if I call IT and ask them, they will unblock HoFo?

Just tell them its industry related and has stuff you need to know. I'm at work now and thankfully i have something to read... it gets boring on weeknights! Especially when this mall is open till 9:30.
