Ok, I bought the LG CU500 about 2 weeks ago and it seems to be having problems and I'm not sure if the problem is with the phone or with the service. I've had the razr and the samsung d807 and never had any problems but with this phone is cuts out alot and people say I sound very far away. It also drops calls more than my previous two phones. I exchanged the 1st one and got a new pne but it's still doing it. So, I'm wondering if the phone just does that or if it could be anything else. I have about 1 week left to exchange it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

disable 3g for now ?

how do you disable 3g? and it doesn't just do it on 3g

Disable 3G by doing the following....

277634#*#

5 Modem Setting

2 Network Mode

1 Network Mode

From there you will have choices of Dual Mode, 2G Only, and 3G Only.....

BTW - the sounding far away issue is typical to the CU500. i have found a little relief in changing the following setting......

277634#*#

5 Modem Setting

7 GSM Speech Ver

The phone comes set to 2 AMR Speech Pref, change it to 1 EFR Speech Pref.....has something to do with the "half-rate" voice codec that GSM providers love to utilize by default, as it allows more users because its using less bandwidth (based on my limited knowledge of the matter)...

should i put it on dual mode or 2g?

it is on dual mode by default....that is what allows it to go back and forth from 3G to EDGE (2G) based on signal strength.....

2G only is going to give you longer battery life, but slower surfing speeds.

I had the CU500 for about a week and a half, and decided to return it for the V3xx. I was not happy about the voice issue, as well as the constant (in some, but not all areas) fading in and out of voice and, worse, in voice mail (where I could not ask the caller to repeat). I was only in 3G areas. Wish I knew about this at the time.

Can you tell me if this (??) or another code sequence is available for the V3xx so I can disable 3G if desired? Not that I am fading in and out any longer, just curious.
