Dash AIM display turns on randomly

I've had my Dash on T-Mobile for 2 weeks now and it the display keeps turning on randomly. It seems like it happens when I'm signed onto AIM and someone signs on or off my buddy list. Is there an option or registry setting that I can change???? Please...it's driving me crazy. My battery life is suffering.
