Setting Recurrent Alarms On BlackJack

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just got my BlackJack this evening, and have it charging on my nightstand...getting ready for my maiden voyage into Smartphone-territory tomorrow.

Without going into the users manual...how do I set recurrent alarms on the phone?

Thanks.

I use it every morning to wake up.

Start>Organizer>Alarms>Wake up alarm (click on it)> (check box) set time and choose days. It will be set like that for you every morning. But I still check every night just to be safe.

If your lazy like me, I roll the side wheel every time for snooze for an extra 10 minutes (about 3 separate times, while half asleep). LOL . Quickest way for me, without really looking at my phone and accidentally turning off the alarm.

Thanks, Venomized. Yeah, I depend upon my mobile phone to act as my alarm each morning too. I used my RIZR last night (actually...this morning) since I knew how to set that alarm...but I'll use my BlackJack tonight.

And, yeah...I'm kinda lazy too. But only a 10-min. snooze would only make me mad. I set two alarms, an hour apart every morning. So...I can have a "get ready to wake up" and a "wake up NOW" alarm .

Ummm...why would keeping your phone all night keep you from getting sleep? Do you get that many calls? Can't you put the ringer on silent?

i don't think you have that option to force the phone on. i know some other samsungs do. but what you can do is, click on the bar just under the "recently used" icon bar. it's the one that says "cingular" on the left and has the time/date on the right. the three options are all, bluetooth and phone. scroll down to phone and hit ok. this stops all incoming and outgoing calls. i don't know if you will still be alerted by text messages though, i just got the phone on sunday so i have a lot to figure out still.

venomized, that's a good tip about the scroll wheel. the keypad is never lit when i look at the phone while the alarm was ringing, so sometimes i'd hit "end" or the back key when trying to get the snooze button.

i also have a question of my own. is there any way to get an mp3 set as my alarm tone? i hateeeeeeeeeeee all the standard ones they drive me absolutely nuts...

and if not, then which tone do you guys use? which one is bearable?

My problem with the Blackjack's alarm is the snooze feature. I usually hit the snooze once or twice. If I've just hit snooze and then roll out of bed, there is NO WAY to turn off the alarm until it chimes again

I've tried going into alarm settings and turning all alarms off, also gone into task manager to stop the alarm program. In 10 minutes (my current snooze setting), it will go off again. At this point I can dismiss the alarm and it will stay off.

I think I'm going to keep one of my nokia's by the bed so I can use it's alarm instead of the BJ.

As for disabling the phone calls at night, radrguy is right. Use the wireless manager to turn off the phone radio. This disables all cellular service (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/etc...). Or if you have Voice Command installed, just tell the phone to go into 'flight mode' and it disables all radios (BT and cellular).

Place the .mp3 in /Application Data/Sounds and it will be available in the list of alarm ring tones

wow okay that was easy. i just did it and it worked. thanks phoenixtx. getting up at 5:30 every day is already hard enough, i'm glad i won't have to listen to that gotdamn cingular tone anymore. also, there was a song i had in the "my documents" folder to set it as my ringtone, and i just saw that song in the list of available alarm tones. so apparently that works too.

i'd also like to be able to turn the alarm off after hitting snooze if anyone knows...

Okeydokey...got a question.

When I go to "alarms", then to "wake up alarm"...why can't I set the time to any but the "07:00" that is preset? I like the ability to vary the days the alarm/alarms are activated...but why can't I set my own time? Or, if I can...how can I w/o having to set "Alarm 1", "Alarm 2" and so on...?

ok this one is easy. after you go to "wake up alarm," the first box is highlighted. hit ok to put a check mark in it. then hit right on the d-pad and you can change the hour, right d-pad again and you can change the minute. right on the d-pad again and you can scroll through each day of the week, check marking the days you want the alarm to wake you up. then hit down on the d-pad, and you can check mark that box, setting another time for particular days. you have 3 available wake up times. so you can have one alarm for say m-w-f, another for tu-th, and another for sa-su. (and you can set more than one alarm for each day. for example, one for m-w-f morning, another for m-tu-w evening, and another for w-th-f-sa afternoon. whatever combination you like).

Duuuuuuhhhhhhh.....!!! I really am smarter than I sound sometimes.

I don't know why I didn't think of checking the little box prior to trying to edit the time...but I tried it w/o doing it 50-times. I'm just hardheaded I guess.

Thanks.

ok, I feel pretty retarded too for not being able to figure that one out on my own, probably would've helped to read the manual! One question though, are the times only avilable in 24hr format? I can't seem to find a way to designate am or pm.

Posted by: PhoenixTX

The determination for AM/PM or 24 hour format is in your 'regional settings' options.

my regional settings have been set to AM/PM, but the wake up alarm seems to accept 24hr format, so what I am wondering is if there is a way to designate AM/PM from the wake up alarm menus, or if it's locked to 24hr format

Wirelessly posted (Blackjack: SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240))

ohhh, gotcha. I have mine set to 24-hour format so I just figured that's why the alarms accepted it. Didn't realize the alarms are 24-hour for everyone.

yeah looks like they keep it in 24 hour format to save space on the screen i'm guessing. under the other alarms (besides the wake up alarm), it shows me 12 hour format with am/pm...
