My 8525 purchase/renewal experience

<breathes deep>
Well I finally decided to pull the trigger on 8525. My 6230b was starting to fail more frequently, and we're going on vacation soon, so I figured that now is the time.

After work I went to a store and was met by no fewer than three salespeople. I ended up with this young woman who walked with me over to the PDA phones when I mentioned that "this guy at work has that treo and likes it...". When we started to talk about phones, I asked her some questions about the 8525 to test her knowledge. She seemed to know the devices fairly well.

Then I moved to plans. I made it very clear that I didn't want to change plans at all; I just wanted to renew with new equipment and that was all. She told me that even if I had an existing media package that I would have to move to a PDA connect plan if I bought one of the PDA phones. Things immediately took a turn for the worse at that point. I told her that I would like to keep my existing data plan; that it does everything I want it to do (I have grandfathered Media Works unlimited). The salesperson told me that the phones don't use data the same way and that my old plan wouldn't work with the new devices (hogwash!). I told her that I didn't want to change the plan; I said that my company caps spending at a certain amount/month. She wouldn't budge, so I left. She didn't try to stop me.

So I went to another store; this one was in a mall. It was much quieter in there; there were only a couple of other customers and just one girl behind the counter. So I spend a few minutes looking at everything and finally get to the 8525 and find it to be a non-working display. I ask the girl for one that I could play with. She goes in the back and gets a new one, unboxes it for me, and then asks for my SIM and sticks it in the 8525 and hands it to me. We talk a bit more and she showed me her Pearl and how they compare.

I ease into the plan discussion and she said that there would be no problem renewing with exactly what I have now. So I told her to ring me up. I got the rebate and all, looked at the receipts and the new plan listing. I got her to verify that my nation 600 and media works package came over with the renewal. She said that they did, so I paid her and left. She switched me out for a 3G SIM.

When I got in my truck I tested making a call and then I browsed the web to test GPRS. It worked fine. What suprised me was when the girl I just bought from called me a few minutes after I left to go home. I was scared that she was going to try to force me into another data plan.

Well, she said that she wondered if I was really sure that I had an unlimited plan; she thought it was only the 5MB version. I said that I had always had unlimited ever since I got my 6230b. She said that she could switch me over to the current unlimited plan for the same price, but I told her no thanks and to leave her the way it is. Still feel uneasy about all that; I'm scared that I'll get the next bill and be screwed in some way.

I have her business card and she said that she'd help if I ran into trouble. She was genuine enough, I guess.

Here's my question: on my receipt, my new contract shows that I have the "media works package". I think that's what it used to be called, can anyone verify? I find that the current offer is the "media works bundle" but it is not unlimited.

Cliff's for those still reading:
1) bought 8525
2) got call from sales girl asking about data plan
3) ...
4) profit.

Thanks.
