V3xx is a step back

I thought Motorola was through releasing phones that weren't quad-band GSM? I honestly never thought I'd see another phone released that lacked GSM 900, except maybe from Nokia, which has only recently joined the quad band club. But Motorola?!?

I know, it doesn't matter here in North America, but coverage overseas will not be optimal. Motorola was one of the first companies to start releasing quad band devices and I thought they'd never do triband again. All the other 3G phones I can think of (Samsung ZX10/20, LG CU500, Samsung SYNC) are 2G capable on all the supported frequencies in the world.

i second that. I mean i'm happy about the 850/1900 wcdma, but seriously, it should be quad band

Easy fix. Either A) Don't travel to Europe. or B) Take it back and get another phone.....

Yeah I find it strange too coming from Motorola. If somebody upgrade from a regular V3, V3i, or V3r to the V3xx and they didn't realize that Moto took out the 900 band, they might not have service if they travel.

Or C) bring the phone you upgraded from (obviously a quad-band if it was important before) overseas when you go.

or D) Don't buy it and wait for something better.

Seem edit maybe?

Not possible. You can't use software to enable a function that isn't supported by the hardware.

You don't know Motorola. Often times when they release a triband phone, they use QuadBand hardware and lock out the extra band via Firmware. Seem edits can bring back that hidden band.

But I don't think this will be the case with the V3xx. Like some other Moto phones, this one is probably just Triband with no hidden bands.

I for one think the V3xx is one of the best phone from Motorola in a long time. The last moto phone I actually liked was Star Tac Lite. I can live without the 900mhz. I'll just take my other phone if I need to travel.

I amazes me that most of these people that whine about this issue:
1. Have never traveled abroad.
2. Do not have any plans to travel abroad.

Why would any company do something that dumb? You pay all the designers to include four frequency bands in the hardware, then set a bit in the software that makes one of those bands useless. Then marketing can't advertise the product as quad-band. Even worse, if it can be seem edited back in, the software that supports the missing frequency band has been paid for as well.

Well Moto is an American company. Just like the Big 3 auto makers. Just can't handle the foreign folks

gotta agree with this ..

some people just gotta complain abiut something

I think that if it's that important to you, (business for example) then you would probably be able to snag a sweet phone to use overseas...the US is behind everyone else right?

That's like saying "It amazes me that most of these people that whine about life insurance haven't died."

Phones are expensive products, and being able to use it everywhere you think you may need it is a legitimate product purchase decision factor.

It's a lot easier to design the phone with all four bands and then not use one (for marketing reasons) then to design two different BOMs/layouts. Also, if some the of the parts on the phone (filters for example) are combined together, removing one of the bands will then require a new part that needs to be qualified. Some of the decision may be to reduce calibration time for the factory to get better yields/throughput.

How true.

I would be complaining about the extra size Motorola insisted on adding to the RAZR, not the lack of GSM900.
