Not getting my POP3 notifications anymore

i have noticed that within the last week or maybe less i have stopped getting my notification for my POP3 account.... any suggestions?
I have verified my settings and everything is ok. I had enabled my outgoing to see if i could reply to emails, but disabled that a few days ago.. Not sure what else it could be...
It was nice when it was working, so now i feel im missing something....
