"Invalid message recipient"

Since you guys have been so helpful with my other beginner problems maybe you can help me with this.

About 90% of the time, if I attempt to Reply to an email, I get a System Admin. email in return stating "Invalid message recipient"

This happens sometimes when sending an email to a contact, but mostly replying to new contacts.

Any ideas as to what this could be? Let me know if you need anymore information.

Keith

What phone are you using?

Wirelessly posted (HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

I get this on my 8525 sometimes, but also on new messages, too. Weird thing is it happens when I'm connected thru Cingular GPRS but not when I'm using Wifi at home. It happened a few times when I first got my 8525 in Nov. then started up again this week. I hope someone can shed some light.

Sorry, I have a Treo 750.

baylor - can you get on Wifi to test whether this error happens that way for you or if it's only on GPRS?

Just saw this thread, i have the cingular 8525 myself, and i have had no problems sending or reciveing email via pop3 on my roadrunner account, UP until a few days ago. i can get email just fine, but i cant send it =( i get that exact same message. My connection shows a U. i have the unlimited plan. any ideas?

Check your POP outgoing mail setting on your 8525. You must have your outgoing POP setting set to CWMX.com to reply to email. Your incoming POP setting should be the same as your email service provider's. When sending email, you are using Cingular's server so you have to use Cingular's settings to send outgoing email.

Buddy has the same issue on his, and I do not on mine and we use the same email and have our accounts setup exactly the same. The only way he can fix is to soft reset.

thanks BG80, worked for me, i would have consulted the cingular website had it not worked the first few times hehe not sure what was going but it started working right after i changed the server

Well, I changed my outgoing server to CWMX.com as suggested by BG80 and can now send and reply using GPRS. BUT, if I'm on Wifi at home I have to change the outgoing server to Roadrunner's SMTP server since I'm not sending through Cingular's network.

What a friggin' pain in the arse - I'm sure due to something Cingular recently decided to change. Otherwise, I could not have been sending/replying the last several months with my ISP's outgoing SMTP server in the POP3 mail setup on my 8525. Once again - thanks Cingular for complicating my life!!!
