Anyone know when this phone will be available for Cingular? I need to buy a new phone soon so if it comes out in a few weeks I'll definitely buy it, but I don't wanna wait months.

I noticed this phone in the reviews of the CES conference this January. I too have my eye on this handset. I do not even know its status with FCC approval.

I believe the European version is the Samsung SGH-X820, already released. There are some video reviews of it on YouTube, thin phone for sure.

Isn't the 3GSM conference next week (Feb 11th)? Maybe we'll get more information soon.

Just read that it was FCC approved today.

I believe I read it on Engadget Mobile

it also seems to have a front-facing camera but I don't think cingular's going to allow that to happen.....just like the moto

no news on when this phone is coming out?

Posted by: mrwilmoth

any news on the release date of this?

Looks like a nice phone!

So I got this phone from Cingular.

Its a P.O.S.

If you're thinking about getting it, dont. I hate it. I'll be returning it as soon as I can.

How about giving us some kind of review and EXPLAINING why you don't like it?

Posted by: jbzcar

Mine is coming FedEx this afternoon. I will post my initial thoughts on it later today. I have had enough phones that I can generally tell wether I will like it relatively quickly.

ha, sorry! Here you go....

I used to have an LG VX8100. That phone was as simple and as intuitive as it gets. One button for a contact list, one button to bring up the menu, etc.

This phone is laid out completely different. And I’m not thrilled with the way the menu is setup. It could have been much simpler, and less gimmicky.

After getting used to the menu, I’m a little more fond of the phone.

Me Likey:

-Slim and sexy. Just like me. And lightweight too.

-3G is fast as all get out. Click, clack. Videos and the net load very fast.

-You can use custom ringtones on it! (This I LOOOOOVE)
Go to www.mytinyphone.com and click on create content.
Follow the easy prompts, and WHAM! You have yourself a ringtone of ANY mp3 you have. Just did it yesterday. Perfect. I have “go with the flow” by queens of the stoneage. I’ll be making a lot more.

-call quality is like most of my weekends, bars bars and more bars.

-Battery life seems pretty good. But it might be too soon to judge. I’ll come back with an update if the phone angers me.

-Speakerphone volume is pretty good, and the quality the caller gets is pretty good too. (from what I was told from a few people I’ve called)

Me No Likey:

-Buttons are flush with the phone. It can be hard to press them, especially when you have fat, sausage fingers like mine.

-Its VERY branded. I’m worried about buying something accidentally if I press the wrong button.

-Menu could be much simpler. I’m not a fan of the 9 icon grid menu they have. I love my old LG menu system.

-Screen is a little small for a phone that was made to use video and net content. But it’s a high quality display, if that’s any consolation.

-No flash for camera. Whatever. Not like a flash on any camera phone has made a difference in any picture EVER, but its nice to use it as a flashlight every once in a while.

-Audio for the video content is VERY low. So low you would HAVE to get earphones to listen to it. There are no external speakers for it to get piped out of, so the audio comes out of the ear thing...you hear...calls out of. I cant think of the damn word. You get the drift.

-Minor gripe, but the video you get is grainy. But its not terrible. Again, minor gripe.

So that’s my review. I have AT&T. I live in a big city. And so far, its not too bad. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

(BTW ladies, if you were going to ask, I’m a Capricorn, I like long walks on the beach, and hot steamy se- wait. I mean, hot steamy premarital cherishing and listening. Yeah.)

After using my A727 for an afternoon, I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with it! This is coming from a 3125. I was so tired of the 3125, it was time to go back to a regular phone.

I like the Samsung UI, this is my first Samsung since way back when I had an E105 with T-Mobile. It is a very responsive phone, no menu lag at all.

The keypad is not too bad, I think mainly because I am used to such a flat keypad from my 3125, so I know how to use one.

It is so very nice to be able to use ringtones again. You couldn't hear anything other than "trill ring" on the 3125...

haa i like the review and the fact that some people are finally getting pumped about this unit.
mine should be getting here this week and i can't wait to get my grubby fingers on it.

cnet gave it a mediocre video cnetreview.. but just take a look at the reviewer, kid looks like a pansy.. i didn't take his word.
i think loki is on point with his review.

^^ whoa, the reviewer looks possessed or something....

apparently the A717 is really good in the RF department. can the same be said for the A727?

I can actually pull 3 bars of 3G in my house now. With my A845, CU500, V3xx and Blackjack I couldn't do that.

I almost didn't get this phone because of the CNet review, but I'm pretty happy with it. After 2 weeks with it (and switching from Verizon's Lockdown-of-Doom device lineup), I would definitely recommend it.

Battery life has been excellent; tomorrow I'm going to start a full cycle on the battery and see how long it lasts. Signal strength has been huge compared to the Moto SLVR I had immediately prior to this. Hate that phone.

I'm slowly getting accustomed to the keypad. The big thing for me with the flat keys hasn't been finding the numeric keys, but instead the soft keys feel a little weird. Go figure. Really would love to be able to reprogram the Deathstar key in the middle of the d-pad though.

The UI isn't perfect but after the past couple of years of Verizon phones it still feels as good as when I stop beating my head against the wall.

Added a 1gb microSD card and it's becoming a useful tool for carrying data around. Now if I could only find a way to get it to play with iSync....

i just got my unit in yesterday.
very impressed with the size and slim factor.
however, the keypad is loose up by the upper right hand side corner.
wft. anyone have a fix for this?. i paid 145.00 shipped on ebay.
the people that have seen it think it is a 300 dollar unit. i like and want to keep it.
it's just that i am worried the keypad is going to come off completely in time.

Posted by: loki80

EPVQ30, you need to return your unit. I wouldnt bother trying to fix it yourself.

Get a refund, or send it back to Samsung if its under warranty.

If neither works, duct tape. or gum. or super glue.
or a new phone.

Posted by: EPVQ30

hey Loki thanx for the suggestion about sending it to samsung for a warranty claim.
i called this morning and the guy was super nice.
gave me a customer and a repair number and the promise that the phone would be fixed by samsung techs and that it would be sent back to me looking newer than ever.
haaa i am psyched!.. now i will really enjoy my a727 to the mostest.

Posted by: loki80

awesome EPQV30! glad to hear I helped. If only more companies realized that friendly customer service and quick repairs generate brand loyalty.

Say, does anyone here know where I can find some themes for the a727? I'd like to spruce it up with some different menu's and layouts and what not.
