Wanted to know how much data does these programs use and will it really be necessary to get a unlimited data plan? Right now im playin with agile but im using my wifi connection to connect and wanted to know if the data was needed in times when i cant use wifi.

Any cheaper alternatives? I dont wanna pay a bunch of money for MEdia or data and then the money to pay for the program.

Pay per use data is so rediculously and disproportionally expensive it's hard to advocate anything other than unlimited data plans for ANY data use
For IM programs only, You could probably get by with a 5MB of data, but the cost of a 5MB media net plan is $15, 5MB data connect plan is $20. Even the 1MB media net plan is $10.
For $20 you get unlimited media max or unlimited smartphone connect.

To pay per use only is $0.01 per KB. That means 1MB = $10, 5MB = $50.
I would garuntee you'd use at least 1MB, and anywhere from 1-5MB for IM only. I think you'd exceed $20 in pay per use data in one month without breaking a sweat.

What I would suggest is at minimum get the 1MB Media Net plan for $10. It should have unlimited data for the first month (standard promo.) Get it and use the IM program and see how much you use. Then you can upgrade to Media Max or stick with the 1Mb plan.
Or just get Media Max for a month or two, see if you need it, then back off if you don't.
You can cancel or change your data plan feature at any time and you only pay the pro-rated charge for how long you had it (For $20 media max, you'd pay $10 if you only kept it 2 weeks.)

Years ago (back on old AT&T) I got a 6MB data plan ($10) and used 14MB on a little Nokia phone (using something similar to Opera Mini for web browsing.)
After paying $80 in data overages for the 8MB over the initial 6MB ($90 total if you include the $10,) I switched to a $45 unlimited data plan. I ended up switching to a Treo 600 about the same time otherwise I'd have simply quit the data altogether.

Sadly I can't even estimate how much data the IM programs use. I simply pay no attention.

My recommendation is get the $20 media max unlimited. Try it out, and downgrade after you figure out how much you're using.
