The store I work at was robbed, and of course I was the one working.....

Posted by: robhs

Sorry to hear that. Was anyone hurt?

Posted by: road1will

At least you're okay. What did they steal? Just a ton of phones? Or did they go after the cash drawer?

Posted by: Wiggum

i hope you gave it up like a virgin on prom night.

Posted by: drewyehboi

We had a demo phone stolen not but a week ago.

Posted by: zero_divide_1

I had a similar thing happen last month. We got hit at the middle of the night. Wierd thing was that I closed the night it happened, locked up and set the alarm. Another associate came by (and everyone knew he'd be there) at about 11:30P to pick up a phone for another store, he locked up and set the alarm and left. Then at about 12:30A, the alarm was turned off again by an unknown individual who took all the phones - and we know it was an inside job cuz they were able to turn off the alarm and unlock the safe to get the phones. Oh wait, he left a couple of Nokia 6102s and Sony Ericsson z525s, but that was it. Yeah, it was a bad day the next day. Needless to say people were accusing me though I was almost 20 miles away asleep when it happened (and I have a ton of alibies).

They should know who turned off the alarm by the code that was used to disarm the store.

Stealing phones from a store is supid, how quick would they all get hotlined.. psh.

That, and aren't there camera's in that store?

You're never gonna believe this...So here's the story...
I used to be a manager at my location until the company closed out and a new one bought the store - I was hired on as a sales associate (under my own volition, mind you). Well, because the company was "too busy to be burdened with things" everyone used my alarm code. This went on for about 4 months until the robbery (and maybe a week after that too), after I repeatedly let my bosses know that it was a huge security risk to do that and that the store needed cameras. Of course, all I got was a deaf ear, because, you know, as associates, what do we know, right? Yeah, needless to say all my co-workers who knew that I had mentioned that (not only that but my girlfriend and my family) all laughed and rolled their eyes and said "He told you so" when it happened. Go figure....

ummm...any details?

The store where I work at had a couple of phones stolen a while back. It was a group of guys and they just ripped the ones off the live bar. They took an 8525, blackjack, v3i, and cu500. One of the guys just fooled the working RSCs acting like they were interested in buying something while the other two guys just started pulling the phones. No one got hurt and no money was stolen so it wasn't really that bad.

Unrelated to being robbed while working in a cell store but a while back working at a gas station in west chester, pa I was held up around 530am by 2 guys holding the oldest revolver I have ever seen (sideways none the less) asking me for the money. I just handed the drawer to them and let them take the 48$ sitting in there. Best part of it was about 30min before the walked in I just windexed the huge glass door on both sides. When the guy left he used his palm to push the door open instead of pushing the handle. As a result he left a full palm print which led to his arrest a week later. His was the only print on the door as between cleaning and them coming in no one touched the door and the cameras proved that in court.

The karma was just so instant it was great . The highlight was the gas station sent me a letter (I framed it) commending me for my actions during the robbery and gave me 60$. Cool right? Not. The 60$ was in the form of store credit only and no gas/cigarette purchases were allowed. Wtf am I going to spend 60$ in a gas station convenience store when I work there and could have it for free? So many of my nice regular customers who said good morning to me usually everyday got free coffee for the next month.

It would have been if my company had listened to me when I emplored them that they should have given out unique codes. Oh well, like the government and putting in stop lights in danger zones, they'll only do things AFTER the fact.

Okay I have been at home with pay for a while.... and for some reason I cant access hofo from home.... but heres what happened, first of all I work at a cellone not a cingular, but I love this forum thats why I stuck around after I quit cingular.

I was stolcking the accessories right before close so I was going back and forth between the lobby and inventory room. I came out to throw some chargers on the wall and see a guy standing in the lobby, the door buzzer didnt go off so that was weird but no big deal so I asked how I could help him... T= Thief M=Me
M- How can I help you sir?
T- I need a new charger (ac) for this phone (pulls out kyreca or however its spelled prepaid virgin mobile phone ) I explain to him that we dont carry that particluar brand and reffer him to an agent store who carries multiple carriers and even offer to call ahead for him. He said no: he would do it later and asked if we had a case that would fit his phone, I walked over to the accessory wall and start showing him cases, he hands me his phone and asks me to try a bunch of cases on his phone... I try the cases made for similar phones but at one point his phone gets stuck in a cases and I ask him to pull it out... he is very upset by this, he grabs the case and says thats the one he wants and I told him it doesnt fit, he then asks to try another and points to a wider one, I grab it off the wall and it fits his phone, he wants to buy it. I sit down at my desk and T starts pacing while I am ringing up this case asking about random stuff, I look down at my screen ( we have regular u shaped office desks here) and all of a sudden hes behind me and says this is a robbery, I actually thought it was all a joke because he had been in here so long and the situtation flipped so fast. I turned a little to look behind meand see the knife. He then presses the knife into my skin of as a kinda of warning, I told him "take whatever you want" and with one smooth action popped open the drawer, I even offered him a bag, hell if he stuck around I would have offered the inventory room to him. I was polite and complied fully, now that hes been identified (not caught) I have found out he normally stabs his victims before he leaves, I dont know if its because I complied so well or if he got spooked but he did keep pressing the knife deeper and deeper into my skin. Luckily we had cameras so I dont have to worry about my JOB acusing me... they even gave me as much *PAID* time off as I wanted and the actual President of our company called me and gave me his personal numbers and told me I could have pretty much any comp I wanted.

Things we noticed after reviewing the camera
1. He wouldnt touch anything- thats why he made me try all the cases out.But he did make an attempt to grab the cases and his phone before he left, he dropped them and because those were cases I had just stolcked, only mine and his fingerprints were and the cases.
2. The reason I didnt hear him come in- he stepped around the motion dector that is conected to the door buzzer, he sat in the door way casing the store for a few minutes.
3. While I was trying cases on the phone and not looking at him he was checking all areas of the store for a co-worker or someone else, normally there is someone else but that night someone had called in sick.

Sorry it took me so long to get back but I just cant access this site from hom for some reason....

I hope they catch him.

Posted by: cingulargal

Me too!!!!!!! Its killing me to think hes still out and about.

Posted by: jakeboy723

yeah, I'm with everyone else. I hope he gets caught. Karma's a *****. Back in November, (on black friday none the less) our Opus was down and everything was really hectic. Someone came in and stole a Sync right out from under us. Then literally 2 weeks later, he went into the other mall location just on the other side of town and tried to get a battery plate. The rep who he approached called me and asked for the IMEI on the demo we got stolen. Caught the guy right there and brought the cops in on him. Like I say, karma's a *****.

Interesting choice of word you chose to describe this tread. Saying "finally" is about the equivalnt of you wanting it to happen.

Only once with a knife? Post back when you've had a gun held to your head twice.

Seriously, though, that sucks man. I know how ya feel.

The question I have for these a**holes is why they would do something stupid like rob a cellphone store? Most (not all, like mine) have cameras, but mainly what do they have to benefit? The IMEI numbers of phones are the biggest give aways (though it is more difficult to track since the phones don't submit the IMEI to the network when the phone turns on), and, yeah, you might be able to sell it on Ebay, but its likely that they don't have a good-standing account (zero-feedback and the sort) so it may be that they don't sell it there. So realistically, what motive do you have to rob a cellphone store if the odds of getting caught are so high? Hell, why rob any store? Idiots.

No I just knew it was going to happen sooner or later, I have been telling my boss this since I started closing by myself, you cant have a 4'11, 110 pound girl close by herself in a.... well... lets just say prepaid part of town.... When I was offered the job I was told 9-5 M-F, I felt bad for some of my co-workers with kids and switched, then realized there was a reason we had an ex-cop as the closer..... And I was dead tired, I wrote this right after everything.....

But they do when you make a call... if we have any inventory issues, our inventory manager for our market will search each phone out very quickly to see if a call has been made with that IMEI.

We can track phone calls here by IMEI as well. But here anyone can do it. Its supposed to be for tracking network issues but we have used to get a few display phones back!!

FIrst I love your cingular thing! And second... your right, I dont think people who have to rob places are bright, although companies wont "blacklist" phones for individuals I am sure they would for a major burglary. My guy was after cash, and because I had just gotton a massive change order, he got a couple hundred dollars in ones fives tens and the rare twenty. We are not by any means a cash business, he would have been better off robbing the pizza place I used to work at. We do take payments here but very few people come in and pay with cash, I remember a few times at Cingular closing after an eight hour shift on a really busy day and having like $200 in my drawer.

I think he robbed the wrong Cingular store.

Thought some of you would get a kick out of this, the guy that robbed me got caught, it’s been all over the news here- he’s been dubbed Kansas City’s dumbest criminal. I hate typing and I am notorious for my misspelling so I am just going to cut and paste part of the email I sent to co-workers about 5 minutes after he was caught and two news stories about it.

The email:
When I was pulling to my house today I noticed a man standing in my driveway in the entrance to my yard (its fenced), as soon as I looked at him I realized him as the man who robbed me last Wednesday!! I sat in my car for a moment staring at him and he started to walk off, I followed him in my car and called 911, he walked into the library which I used to volunteer at so I know there’s only one entrance/exit, I parked in front to make sure he couldn't get away, the guy came out and made eye contact with me, he had obviously recognized me and started to walk back towards my house, the officers arrived and got out of their cars and walked up to him, he started to run, he ran into the crack house behind mine (this is why we are moving) the officer tried getting into the front door then radioed for backup, the robber then ran out the back door right back to my house, The cop chased after him and tackled him in the snow right under my bedroom window!! At first I thought he was there to harm me but after the officers spoke with him they realized he was here to buy drugs! SO I had just happened to pull up right when he was going to spend the money he stole from me on drugs from my crack head neighbors! And the best part...... you will never believe this..... in all the excitement he accidentally gave the cops his real name - not the alias he has been using since he moved here from Texas. Not only does he have a ton of warrants out- his name is also the name the cell phone he left at the store when he robbed me is in!! The head of the Leavenworth police department came to my home and thanked me and told me this is a legal identification and as an added bonus he was wearing the same coat hat and shoes as when he robbed me, those items are now the property of the LVPD so even if he makes bail anytime soon he doesn't get to leave with anything except for his underwear!

And a few really inaccurate news “clippings’
Kansas City Star
A trip to the library helped Leavenworth police nab a robbery suspect.
Police arrested Keith Brown, 46, after a witness to the robbery saw him at the Leavenworth Public Library.
Brown was caught after a short chase. He was charged with one count of aggravated robbery.
He is accused of robbing the Cellular One store in the 1600 block of South Fourth Street. The robber left his cell phone at the store.
Police were able to get a name off the phone, but it was too common. The sighting at the library gave police the opportunity to put the pieces together.

Robbery suspect arrested

A Leavenworth man was arrested last week after he was spotted at the public library by a witness who reportedly identified him as the culprit of an earlier robbery.

Investigators have since linked Keith Brown, 46, to a second robbery in Leavenworth, according to Maj. Pat Kitchens, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Brown has been charged with one count of aggravated robbery stemming from a Feb. 7 incident at Cellular One, 1612 S. Fourth St.

Brown is alleged to have demanded money from a clerk while holding a knife.

The knife apparently was placed against the victim’s back, according to Kitchens.

According to a police report, $729 was stolen from the cell phone business.

Kitchens said the robber allegedly left his own cell phone behind at the business.

By the time he was spotted by the witness on Friday, police had determined the cell phone belonged to someone named Keith Brown, Kitchens said.

Brown reportedly ran from the library Friday and headed for his residence in the 900 block of South Fifth Street.

According to a police report, Officer Alan Brugman pulled into an alley behind Brown’s home.

Brown saw the officer and allegedly took off running through the alley. Brugman sped up his vehicle and the wheels spun on snow.

Brown reportedly turned around. The police vehicle was just a few feet behind him at that point. Brown turned back around.

As he was putting the vehicle in park, Brugman reportedly told Brown to get on the ground.

Brown was getting down as the officer stepped out of the vehicle. Brown was arrested and taken to the Leavenworth County Jail, according to the report.

Brown appeared Tuesday in Leavenworth County District Court on the robbery charge.

He was scheduled to be back in court today with a court-appointed attorney, according to Deborah Owens, spokeswoman for the Leavenworth County attorney’s office.

Bond has been set at $200,000 but Brown remained in custody Tuesday afternoon at the county jail, according to Owens.

Kitchens said Brown now has been linked to a Dec. 19 robbery at the Snappy convenience store, 1300 S. Fourth St., as well.

That robbery also involved a man wielding a knife as he demanded money from a cash register.

Kitchens said charges are still pending against Brown in that case.

Brown, who has previous convictions in Sedgwick County for robbery and burglary, was released from prison in June, according to information on the Web site of the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Wow, that's creepy...if I saw someone that robbed me I probably would've waited until AFTER I knocked him out to call the cops, but that's just me.

Anyway, good job! I hope everything goes okay for you in the future! (And good luck with your new, non-crack neighborhood place too!)

Posted by: Wonwad

I'd chase after him, tie him do the back bumper and drive off for miles. Joking, but I would definately give him a beating he wont forget.

The gang banger NBA PUNKS like to just come in and steal the phones right off the cell phone bar at the front . They run like the cowards that they are .
