Palm 650 vs. Palm 680

So, what are the real upgrade advantages of the Treo 680 compared to the Treo 650?

I am just not feeling my Blackjack at all, and it may be that I am just not all that needy of a smartphone...or not technically proficient enough to appreciate them. At any rate, I am thinking of returning my BJ next week and exchanging it for something new.

As far as smartphones go, I have heard nothing but complaints about the 680...so how about the older 650 model? Many have told me the Palm OS is more n00b-friendly than the Windows OS...and I can probably get one for cheap from Cingular.

I want a phone that stores information, has a good appointment mgr./daily planner, and I can get my emails on. I don't need anything any more fancy than that.

How does the 650 fit that criteria?

680's major improvements are (off the top of my head):
1) No antenna (physical)
2) Louder ear piece (the Treo 650 is not loud enough, design flaw, really sucks)
3) Blazer (web browser) is upgraded. Treo 650's has issues, 680's is useable.
4) Minor UI improvement (home screen added)
5) 3X the memory
6) Comes in colors if you buy it directly from palm.
I don't remember if the bluetooth is the same or upgraded.

Otherwise a 680 is just a refreshed 650.
I personally would get the 680 just because it fixes some of the bugs/problems with the 650.
I got my wife a Treo 750 (upgraded from a 650) and she's struggling with WM5. I might get her the 680, but she doesn't seem willing to give up on Windows yet. LOL

I'm just concerned with the tons of posts I read on this forum, TreoCentral.com, and on Cingular's Customer Forums with 680 users having dropped calls, freezing problems, garbled text, poor reception, and generally unreliable service. I know that the folks that are happy with their phones rarely post...but I don't want to jump on a phone that is buggy.

I want a PDA/phone...

1. With a loud earpiece
2. With great incoming call-quality
3. With great reception
4. With first-timer ease of operation
5. With pop3 email capability
6. With a superior daily planner
7. With recurrent alarm
8. With good battery life

Does the 680 have all that? How about the 650?

I Like my 650. No complaints about the browser
1. Loud enough for me
2. As a phone, it is the clearest I have ever had.
3. No complaints for me - the 680 is more sensitive - my friend I got the 650 from says he gained three bars going to the 680.
4. I think it is easy, but as a geek it is hard to make a fair comment on ease of use for non-geeks!
5. Very happy with versa mail - even built in setting for IMAP AOL. Very customizable - I have it set to only dowload headers less than 2 days old, for example.
6. I use outlook and sync
7. I use outlook and sync (contacts also)
8. I think the 650 is superior to the 680 in this area

680 has newer bluetooth ver which means it can handle more than one BT device at a time.

Complaints - response time is slower than my 600 and crashes more often - that being said it is probably way faster than Windows.

I just have to justify the extra cost of a smartphone, I think more than anything.

I'm going to check out a 680 again at my Cingular store Sunday. From all the rave reviews the Blackjack is getting, I guess I should like it...but I'm not all that thrilled.

We'll see...
