Not hearing notifications on 8525

So I just got my 8525 and am loving it...except for one thing. I'm not hearing any of the notifications (new text message received and new voicemail received) that are left on my phone. I've gone through the Sound and Notification menu, checked off all appropriate boxes and still no luck. Any ideas?

Also, under Sounds for incoming calls, I cannot hear the audio when I select the "play" button for any of the default sound files. However I can utilize the play button and hear the sound files for the various notifications.

Any help is appreciated.

Click on the sound icon on the upper right of the screen, next to the clock. You'll see two bars. The one on the right is the ringer volume, the one on the left is the system volume, which includes the volume for notifications.

I'm assuming that's your problem. If not, swap it for a new one. The problem I'm having for volume is that it's too loud and gets distorted, so I have to keep the volume at 2 clicks below max. That's pretty loud as it is, but it's weird that they made it so that you can't use max volume. And it's not just my phone, cause the demo that they had at the store did the same thing.

That's the culprit. Yes, I agree that the volume is too loud. Is there a way to get notification sounds without activating the system sound? I find the clicks and beeps to be pretty annoying.
