Hey all,
Well this is the situation i have. I am on a 2 year contract which will be up in June. Just a couple days ago.. my Samsung A680 all of a sudden stopped working. I can get calls in, and hear clearly.. but the people on the other end cant hear me. But, i can call and leave myself a voice mail message, and it works fine. So i am not too sure what to do. I sent an email to bell... and they stated:

Upon full review of your email, I wish to inform you that although you
are entitled to purchase a new unit at full price, the Hardware Upgrade
Loyalty Credit cannot be applied due to the recent activation date of
your account for which credits have been applied.

I have liked bell.. but when i first signed up with them, it took 4 months to get my agreement and credits straightened out. Then, they have never been able to tell me how to send photos to other phones, something about the password.. so i simply gave up with that.

So now, i am not too sure what i should do. Should i buy a used phone, and then have it activated? Should i cancel my contract, pay the penalty, and move on? Should i fight to attempt to get some sort of loyalty credit?

Anyways, hoping to get some good advice

Thanks
Chris

If you can leave message for yourself using the same phone, it really doesnl't sound like it is a problem with your phone (assuming this is always the case). It is probably a problem with the network.

Well.. i have tried talking on a land line, as well as other cell phones.. and noone can hear me unless i am yelling into the phone.. then it is just like i am whispering. I am borrowing a friends cell and it works fine. so i am unsure what to do at this point.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

Have you tried a headset? A PITA, but will work until you're eligible for another phone discount.

Crap... never even thought of a headset.. i wish i know where i put mine...lol. Might have to dig thru all my crap and see if i cant find one. You are right.. a PITA... but.. it would prob do the trick.

Under this circumstance, you'd probably want to speak to Loyalty and Retention. You've already been on with them for almost two years and getting an early renewal is not out of the question considering its only 4 months till the end of your contract. You'd be eligible for an upgrade credit 3 months to the end of your contract anyways. Disregard that email and call Loyalty and Retention. Whoever sent you that email is clearly not interested in keeping your business but I'm sure there are some people at Bell who are.

I concur, if you can get a headset for it - it'll probably solve the problem. The voicemail is working because there's a significant audio-volume regulator built in which will "Listen harder" if the caller is really soft...
I seem to recall Samsungs of that vintage had the occasional microphone problem... even my friends GSM samsung had a dead mic in it after about 2 years. It ended up being a quick fix - by the authorized service center.

Well, i took the advice and called Bell. They said right now, i could get a $100 upgrade if i were to sign a 3 year term. She also said that if i wait until March 22, that i would qualify for a $200 upgrade for a 3 year term. Well, i wont take a 3 year term, simply because my phones have no chance of making it 3 years...lol. And that was all that she said. The girl was friendly, but seemed a bit confused when i asked if i could simply buy another bell mobility phone, and get it activated under my account. When i asked about what upgrade i would get for a 2 year contract... she couldnt answer me. SO, i am guessing that my best bet right now is to get a headset, or a cheap used phone from somewhere, and use it.. then when my contract is up, see what is available at that time? Since number portability will be available by then, i could switch providers and keep my same number.
So, any suggestions on what i should do at this point?

Good to hear that on the 22nd you will be eligible for a full rebate. Even if you sign for 36m, unlike some other carriers Bell Mobility offers customer a loyalty credit each 24 months MAXIMUM. Also, if you are eligible on march 22nd for a 200$ loyalty credit on a 36 month renewal, you will be eligible also for a 150$ loyalty credit on a 24m ( normally).

You can always buy a phone at full price or any other Bell Mobility phone used and assign it on your account. I have to let you know that if the phone was reported stolen or is on account that has been cancel / suspended for non-payment it will not be activated.

Also since you will be renewing verify with customer service if the plan that you have is eligible to be kept since not all plan can be continued. If not, might want to go with a plan that you are interested in and ask for like free call display and message center express or something or overtime calling feature if you don't like the new plan that have nights / weekend starting at 21h.

Hope this helps.

Thanks A920 for the tips. Right now i am an the Extreme 30 plan.. then added message centre, the evenings starting at 6pm, unlimited text messaging. So if i agree to a new contract.. that would mean that i may not be able to keep this plan? I may have to look for a new plan then.

Well the extreme 30 is replace by the Mobile 30 with the same features. Only difference is without the overtime feature your nights/weekends will start at 9pm. If you already have messenger center and overtime calling feature ask them if you can keep it. Also the extreme 30 might still be valid for renewal purposes I'm not sure.

If you're on the AIO Extreme Plan (plan code: ZH & only released for BC/Alberta back in May 2005) for $30, its long gone.

You can keep the plan if you are renewing on the same term; if you originally signed a 24 month term, you can keep it by signing a 24 month term again. If you want a 36 month term, then you will have to change it.

Did ya get the extended warranty? if not.. your hooped

I am on the All In One Extreme $30 plan. So, from what i remember it gave me the following:
3 way calling
911 service access fee
detail billing
call forwarding
call waiting
system access fee
100 daytime minutes
evenings and weekends free from 8pm
100 canadian long distance minutes
20 free calls / touch base
total $30 / month

I then added the following:
6pm - 8 pm calling $5
message centre express $5
Call display $5
Unlimited weekend long distance $5
Text message unlimited $10

Total per month $55

So, if the Extreme $30 is no longer offered... but if i can renew it.. would that be the best, and then simply just buy another phone from someone? Or do i just wait until my contract is up, and then see what is offered?

Generally... my bills are in the $65 range, because of long distance.
