Closing Running Programs on 750

Is anyone using the Close All application from HTC on their Treo 750? I have been using Magic Button but was wondering if anyone is using something else with success?

Any assistance with this would be appreciated. I am looking for some advice on what people are using as a "close app" option instead of Magic Button.

I just use the holding the ok key and I let Treo manage her own memory, she does good on her own IMHO

*** 100th monkey said, you can just press and hold OK to get the task list and close all. You can also get there by pressing option-OK.

I hear there's a registry edit that you can do that will convert the OK button from 'minimize' to a true "close". But I don't know what it is or where to find it.

But I personally am using SPB Pocket Plus to replace my 'task management.'

I installed pocket plus....

Configured the "close button's" "feature options" in the "options" menu to...
On Tap: CLOSE
on Tap-and-hold: Show Menu

I then went in to windows Start>Options>Buttons and set the following:
Button: OK to: [CLose]
Button: Option + OK to: [Close Button Context Menu]

One of pocket plus's features is that it adds 'Buttons' functions to the OS. As a result, in addition to the standard button functions like <start menu> and <OK/Close> , Pocket plus adds button functions like [Close], [Close All], etc which are truly a really close function, not just a minimize function like <OK/Close> is.

So in the first section above for "On Tap" and "Tap-and-hold", these are for the physical touch screen tap and tap/hold in the upper right corner of the screen (on the OK icon.)

I then set the button assignments to mimic the exact fuctions. So button "OK" (same as On Tap, but with the OK button) I've assigned to close.
Same with button "Option + OK" (same thing as press and hold OK) to "[Close Button Context Menu]" which just shows the SPB Pocket plus menu.

Note, since I've assigned the OK button to 'close' apps now, I found a very handy way to mimimize apps instead is to simply tap the red END key (just to the right) 1-time. The first tap brings up the today screen (which basically minimizes all apps,) the second tap puts the unit in to standby (off.) So you simply press it once.
You can also Press and hold OK and then select "minimize" from the menu, but why not take advantage of this Treo "feature" that forces you to the today screen before you can turn it off?

The SPB pocket plus menu sort of acts like a task manager replacement.
The great thing about the menu is that you can chose to close all, minimize, close, or even add additional functions to that menu like "Soft Reset" . It also works for swtiching between programs (I do this frequently.)

Pocket plus also allows you to set up exceptions. So if your default is to close programs outright when you tap or press OK, you can add exceptions to the list so it'll minimize them instead of close them.

I've done this for Media Player and IM+. That way I don't accidentally shut down streaming music (it runs in background) and IM+ gets to remain running in background too. That way if I forget to press 'end' instead of 'ok' I don't accidentally close them. I can always closet them by doing a press-hold OK and selecting "close all"

It's kind of a must-have app. After some experimenting this is what I came up with and realy like it.

I cringe on the thought of installing SPB Pocket Plus on a Treo 750 (or an iPAQ 6515/69xx for that matter)! That's the most screen-cluttering program I've ever tried on a 240x320 screen, let alone a 240x240 screen.

Huh?? No. Just disable the today plug in or reduce the content on it. I have it so it takes up only 1 row of the today screen. But you don't even have to use it to get the benefits of all of it's other useful features.

Wirelessly posted (Palm Treo 750: Palm750/v0000 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I just use Wisbar Lite from lakeridgesoftware.com.

I actually don't use anything to close programs on my 750. According to MikeCal from the Windows Mobile development team, the OS is designed to close apps when memory is needed and closing apps with 3rd party program could actually hurt overall performance.

I find having my most commonly used apps open in the background make them load/launch just a little faster (IE, Inbox, etc...)

That doesn't work for me. The apps running in background seem to slow down my system.
I only allow my 2-3 most commonly used apps (like email) to stay running so it launches faster.
I tried it the default way for 2 weeks, and now my way for about 2 weeks (closing apps) and I seem to get better performance this way.

But you are correct. The OS is theoretically designed to handle closing it's own apps when needed. I just think it doesn't work as well as it's supposed to (as advertised) because not all developers write their software to behave well when it's in the background.
