blackjack: email pop3 vs IMAP

Hi.. I've setup a few email accounts as IMAP since I do not want the email deleted from my server.. however, I notice that when it checks for email every 15 mins... it keeps getting the same messages that I deleted on the BJ earlier because they are still unread on the server.
When I switched the account over to POP3, it downloaded the messages, I read and deleted them and the next time it checked (15 mins later), it didn't re-display the message.... but the message was deleted from my server.
What I want is for the system to work like POP3 (not redisplay the message) but for it to remain on my server but not appear as unread.
Is there any way to set this up on the BJ? Do I need to get a 3rd party email app like flexmail? Thx!

Anyone please? I just want to be able to read my new mail on the BJ, delete the message from the BJ but leave the message on my server but with a Read Flag set.. Don't want the message deleted from the server adn don't want it kept their as new since the BJ just keeps fetching the same message over and over again.. thx!

Odd, even my E62 sets the read flag on the server once I've read the message on the handset. Is there a particular reason why you can't just read the message on the BJ and leave it there rather than deleting it?
It sounds like a 3rd party app may be best suited to your needs.

I'll look at the 3rd party ones.. I guess I could just leave it there.. I just kinda figured for things I don't need to keep I would just want to get rid of it on the phone.
Thx for the advice!

let us know which one works best with the BJ, I hear flurry mail works well (its designed for regular phones though but it might work with the bj)

well.. I'm a bit skeptical about allowing flurry mail to access my email accounts, reformat them and then push them along to the phone.. I don't want to give them access to my accounts and then have the info stored on their server so that's out... flexmail seems to be having significant issues from reading their forum... so that's out too... I haven't found many other apps so I might just have to leave the messages on the phone.. oh well. I'll let you know should I find anything..!

You don't have to leave them there permanently. You can create a folder on the IMAP server and move the day's mail from the inbox to the alternate folder on a PC at the end of the day and then delete the mail from the BJ, so you can at least start fresh each day.
It's probably even possible to automate everything but the deletion from the BJ.
It would be nice if the BJ's mail client didn't suck in the first place, though!

Yeah.. I guess I should clarify - I have the BJ set to check just today's mail.. so I guess worst case is I just delete mail each day for the previous day.. but I agree - it does suck! I just want it to work like the blackberry - once you download a message to the BJ, the BJ sets the flag on the server to indicate the message was read... then, it stays on the server as read and doesn't d/l again to the BJ even if you do delete it immediately on the BJ.
If POP3 just wouldn't delete the message from the server.. but instead just leave it there and marked it read too... then it would be perfect.
What's the point of using a portable device to keep on top of your messages if it remains marked as new on the server? Why would anyone even want that??? I just don't want the messages ever deleted from the server... only marked as read!
Go figure....... perhaps I'll need to try the buggy flexmail afterall.
