I posted this in the wrong sections...oops

I just got my Blackjack today and installed Active Sync 4.2 but it won't recognize my phone and won't sync. I ran the troubleshoot and it said to change my firewall setting but still nada

any help?

nobody? My computer recognizes that a windows mobile device is connected buy Active Sync won't detect it and connect

please help

Many of the newer Windows Mobile 5 devices have an applet under Settings or Accessories that controls whether the device is seen as a network device or as a USB CE device. The applet is called USB-to-PC in the Treo 750 but I know the 8125 has a different name. Since I don't have a BlackJack, I don't know if it has that program and what is called, but if you find it, try switching the device from RNDS (network) mode to USB mode (or uncheck something like "Enabled advanced network capabilities"). Then try to connect and ActiveSync will see your device as easily as it can see a Windows Mobile 2003 or older device.

You're right it's being recognized as a network device but I checked the USB connections on the phone and its set to ActiveSync so I don't know why it's still doing it

When I connect my Audiovox it doesn't appear on the Network Connections thus ActiveSync detects it....argh

Thanks for your help! Anyone else with a Blackjack?

So no Blackjack owner experienced this before that can help?

What you experienced is a typical issue with whatever firewall you're using. Windows Mobile 2003 uses USB serial communication to connect with PC while default WM5 devices use USB Network and TCP/IP communication to connect to PC. There is no option on the BlackJack to let you switch back to the USB serial communication mode. You need to take care of your firewall settings to let Active Sync ports open. Microsoft should have trouble shooting documents for you to follow. Start with disabling your firewall.

I disabled my McAfee firewall and ActiveSync still won't detect my Blackjack

Could it be that my phone is defective?

thanks for your response

As one other said, be sure and disable your firewall as a test for connection. It is also recommeded that we update to ActiveSync 4.5.

This LINK may provide some guidance.

It did for me.

Posted by: advan031

Updated to 4.5 and still nothing. It keeps telling me the same errors about the firewall and USB connection but I turned off my firewall and still nothing. The USB doesn't have a problem connecting cause my computer recognizes that a Windows mobile device is plugged in but ActiveSync still won't detect it...aaaaah

did you try completely uninstalling active sync and reinstalling?

could be a bug there.

Posted by: advan031

Yeah, I've removed and reinstalled 4.2 and updated to 4.5. I'll try and remove and reinstall 4.5 tonight.

I've done everything from totally disabling my firewall to opening/adding port 990 and others

and still nada

Should I hard reset my phone? I forgot how to do that...

I have the same problem. Tried to sync my BJ with my laptop from work, to no avail. I just abandoned the task because all I wanted was to transfer a file to my phone, which I was able to do just by setting the BJ to be a mass storage device.

Cheers!

I guess that's easier than transferring files to my SMT5600 then beam to my BJ...hahahaha I didn't think of that

I still want ActiveSync to detect my phone...aaaah!

Sounds to me your firewall is not completely down. If Windows can detect your phone as network card, your phone is ok. Since your 5600 can sync, your ActiveSync is ok. The only difference between BlackJack and 5600 sync is the firewall that get in the way of BlackJack sync but not 5600 sync.

When I turned off my firewall and ran the troubleshoot scan it didn't give me the firewall problem anymore instead it said that I should look into changing my USB protocol or something like that...I don't think it has anything to do with my USB connection or driver though

Also, what's Com 3? When I try to connect and fails it says: USB connected, Com 3 available?

Sorry guys for the questions cause I'm such noob but thanks a lot for the help.

I will try removing everything again tonight and reinstall once again.
