I just started reading this thread, so I haven't had the time to read all 357 pages lol, but my one issue is this. Most applications that I try to use, won't let me use it in the standard flip mode. It will say "Feature availabe in rotated mode". Does anyone know how to change this?

I haven't found a way. for me, its not that big a deal. I mostly only notice it because it is just habit to open the flip that way. Well, it is a little easier to open in portrait mode also, so maybe a little more convenient too. I think you should be able to use all apps in both modes though (logically). the only limitation I can think is the screen formatting. they probably only have one screen size for apps on the phone, and making that size work in both modes would probably involve cropping the image/app, or scaling it to size, and that would cause stretching or compressing the image, and it would distort it a little due to the different aspect ratios.

Hey guys, sorry for the repeated question, but has anyone figured out how to do all the usual hacks with this phone like obex file transfer, use mp3's as ringtones, transfer picture to your computer, etc...?

Haha no, I send out daily videos from sites like ebaumsworld and break.com.

Also, I deleted my index file where my ringtones are in bitpim, I restarted my phone and it created a new one, but now I cant save new tones. Any ideas how to fix it?

Is it true that when you talk on this phone, you don't hear your own voice in the earpiece at all? ("Sidetone") I find phones that silence my own voice really weird to use, like talking into a block of wood.

Also, has anyone taken an interior pic of a face with the flash as fill? I'd be curious to know how it does with pics like this. (ie, you're having dinner w/a friend, and use the phone to take a shot w/flash fill.)

alright well i just got my u740... im trying to activate online but its not letting me... it constantly says we are not able to activate at this time.... i am getting really aggravated with it and then i also wanted to know how long I should wait after activating it on my primary line should I switch it to my line... 1 call? 1 hour??? 1 day???? well this is getting me angry because I got my other 3 lines to be activated with a million tries, this last one is killing me! should i just call... and if I do, will they charge the 35$ activation fee?

Yes, it's true that you do not hear yourself speaking through the ear piece. I doesn't bother me at all, but I understand the annoyance.

I would just call. Its not worth the frustration. I seriously doubt they will charge you. Just tell them the online activation didn't work...

Initial impressions.. the color... while I'm not wild about it... its not as bad as I thought it would be from the talk..

Hinge on mine just feels kind of weak.. not sure how long its really going to last...

When opened like a conventional flip phone.. I get way too many 'feature available in rotate mode" messages...

Your initial feelings seem to fall in line with most. There are definitely trade-offs with this phone, as with any. But, ultimately, Samsung seems to have hit a bit of a sweet spot of form and function with this phone.

This being one of the few tries at a device like this, I would wager that they will continue to improve on the design. I, for one, look forward to future versions of this device.

Three trade offs from the enV... higher res screen (which looked sharper), and 2mp camera, and the enV could use the apps in "both" modes.. flipped or not...

other than that, and having to deal with the Verizon UI (enV had it too), so far I like this samsung phone...

OK so I was going to do my Day 5 review, but Im feeling lazy and really want to get outside to install my front strut bar on my car before it gets cold. So highlights:

Battery Life: Still doin freakin awesome. I made two 1 hour phone calls, played mp3s for 2 hours, took pics all day (becuase I was playing with settings) and lost only 2 bars.

Calling: Sounds really clear and crisp. You do not hear the echo (at least not yet) when you talk. The fact I can just hold down the SPEAKER key to answer a call without opening the flip at all is cool. I already mentioned the landscape mode during a phone call thing, but in case you missed it, when you're in landscape [speakerphone is on] and you close that flip when you're done, it does NOT automatically end the call.......they can still hear you, so dont talk smack IMMEDIATELY afterwards.

MP3s: Sound clear but a little muffled when the flip is down. I do like the fact that I can HOLD down the play key to start playing my MP3s without having to go through menus. woot woot. As stated earlier, yes georgia, 2GB cards do work. However noticed on some of my mp3s they have a ? in front of em, so im assuming theres something wrong with the tags [re-initializing the database didnt help].

Camera: I never realized how bright that flash really is till I took a picture of myself. DAMN! its a bright little fu***r. The outer LCD does automatically come on tho, so you cant sneak up on somebody for a pic............they know.

MISC: phone doesnt get hot or anything when using it plugged into the charger (at least so far). my 9800 was notorious for that, even when i was on a call for more than an hour it would get a tad warm. The phone is pretty light even especially when making a call, it doesnt feel like its at your ear sometimes.

I still havnt gotten my data cable from FedEx so I cant comment on "tweaks" with BitPim yet.......however, bitpim does NOT offically have support for this phone yet, so play at your own risk with the "OTHER PHONE" setting.

RUMORMILL: guy @ VZW said sammy is going to be doing a firmware update on this phone in a couple months or so. Umm............yeah. I dont believe him. Little fu***r didnt even know about this phone till I told him so I doubt hes going to know that. But I thought I would share anyways.

still on the charger but...

entering numbers when in landscape mode sucks.

however, i imagine i'll probably get used to this or at least be able to accept it due to having a full qwert pad.

the screen is okay, large and bright. would be nicer if it were a tad sharper.

camera is meh - what i've come to expect of a camera phone - good for emergency / quick shots, not much else. i do like that it will change from portrait to landscape depending on how the phone is opened.

the 800mah battery is a little underwhelming - i see they offer a 1000mah battery, but it isn't clear whether it fits under the original cover or not - anyone know? if so, the phone should have shipped with that battery.

i actually like the color, i just want to get rid of the verizon logo ;oP

the hinge feels pretty sturdy to me. has a slight wobble, but considerably less than my e815 did. I wish you could change from landscape to portrait and vice-versa without closing the phone.

the phone has a good weight and fits my hands pretty well. the only real annoyance i have is when in landscape mode, it's a ***** to hit the left portion on the d-pad (up when in portrait) because of the hinge. this makes some games a pain in the ***

it is kind of goofy that games and GIN is only available in landscape. Surely all the content exists for portrait view. there must be a way to do this.

haven't hooked it up to my computer yet (ugh, you mean i have to boot windows?) but i'm hoping that restoring my contact list from my chocolate isn't too hard.

I just sent a 3gp video by email to my phone, and the only options to save it are as a picture or sound, there is no option to save it in MY VIDEOS. Any idea how you do that?

i agree it does kinda suck cuz you have to think sideways on which one it is. lol.

but as someone stated, the HOLY SH*T factor is cool. I love showing this phone and they open it normal and they are all confused by the buttons. then they close it and open it landscape and they are like DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! lol. makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

I do wish the flip duration setting on the phone would also allow LANDSCAPE->NORMAL instead of only NORMAL->LANDSCAPE when sending text messages. its just easier for when you need to type more than one digit.

But with it or without it, this phone has really impressed me.

try the num lock key, thet will switch between numbers and symbols and the keyboard

i do really like this phone so far, the dual flip feature is very nice and a definite step in the right direction

plus it is nice and thin. i'm looking forward to seeing what will be released between now and april - that's when my ne2 kicks in

I just bought a microSD card and I was able to put my mp3s and ringtones with no problems, but I don't know how to add pictures and videos. There are no my_video folders in the card. I created one, but the phone doesn't recognize it. How do you do to see videos and pictures from the card?

How did you put the ringtones??? from the card????? i couldnt get it to work... and i just came from verizon... they said they didnt have the cable for the transfer yet... and to come back around next week... its so funny when i pulled the phone out she freaked out like omg you got this phone!!!!!! and she asked to flip it like 50 times... i was like sure no problem n just cause i got the phone she offered to do it free... haha

I just decided tonight, as I typed in my first text message since getting the phone last Wednesday. I knew as I started typing, I was going to keep it. I've liked it all along, this cinched the deal. UPS is bringing my data/charging cable tomorrow (probably on the same truck as my Rhapsody N35, but that's neither here nor there ;-)

I don't know what all the hub-bub was over the letter "P" -- doesn't seem like a big deal.

I reeeeeeeally like the text message on the outside window, thanks for everyone who explained how to set auto-text "on" -- that feature is NICE.

Btw, when using My BT Places on my WinXP Pro/sp2 laptop (Widcomm/broadcom v5.1.0.1100 drivers), I find the following services on the phone...

Dial-Up Networking
Phonebook Sync
Opp server
QC Voice Gateway

When I right click on OPP Server, I can only "send a business card"
when I right click on PB Sync.. I get "connect to BT Serial port"

yes it works in mobile web using google mobilizer on the EnV, i havent tried the web on the sammy yet, but it should be the same

I convert to 96k/44000 mono, and keep it around 350K or less. clips end up being a little more than 30 sec. Some phones don't like more than about 300k size, but this one seems to handle a little larger file ok.

Give it some time. Likely they just don't have everything set-up for this phone yet.

I'm sure given the option, most of us would rather get our hands on the new phone asap, regardless of GIN apps being ready. It would suck if they had the phone ready to release for sale, but the held it up because stupid GIN wasn't quite ready.

the viewable wallpaper size for full screen is 176x184, wide screen is 220x140, not sure if that ever got answered. what i did is make an image 220x184 and you just have to have the right type of image to make it work in both orientations. the focal point has to be no more than 140px tall and 176 wide center focus otherwise youll get it cropped. here the image im using on mine, there is some cropping at the top in ws mode but thats by design.

its an engineering model, and it is. i find it funny that the picture of the phone thats used in the menu is gunmetal! word is that different colors will be coming though

type the word in t9. Once you get to a point that t9 doesnt recognize the word, switch over to ABC, finish the word and switch back to T9

example:

Volkswa (and T9 wont finish) so ABC and Volkswagon and go back to T9 and it should be in there after that

I got the data cable. It works, it charges my phone, it's awesome. But I still can't get BitPim to recognize and sync w/ my u740. This has been a problem for me, so maybe I'm an eejit. But I can't keep the bloody thing if I can't sync it somehow to my Mac... ah, my Mac.

So I digress. BitPim did manage to assign the phone to a USB port and the settings reflect that. It's set to OTHER CDMA PHONE. Still can't connect.

Anyway this would work with Missing Sync or is that just Palm OS and Windows Mobile?

I think people have had luck setting it to see an a950.

u740 isnt officially recognized by bitpim. Give it a week or so and watch for a bitpim update. If they add phones, they say which phones they added support for in their new releases. But like mick said, try the a950

I thought that both my 9800 and 8300 did a superior job of pulling in a signal.

Does that mean that I'd trade my u740 for either of those? Nope.

I tried that and it still wants to run settings after not detecting the phone. The phone is lit up because the USB connection is good. The Mac has reserved a comm port for the Samsung device, BitPim can see the comm port in its Browse Ports wizard...

Dang. I had the same problem with the VX8600 I had for a couple days... must be user error. I wish I could use BitPim though, it looks cool.

I got this phone on friday. I'm new to this board, I'm learning a lot from reading on here.

I just got a 1gig micro sd card and I want to put some 3gp videos on there. The files are too large to email. How are you all doing it? Bluetooth? The phone's cable?

My thoughts on the phone:
Holy crap I did not know I would get unlimited internet with the VCAST pack.
It did crash on me once and rebooted when I went to a news site, only did that once though.
I love that I can set my own videos to play in the background on the phone.
I love how easy it is to download stuff in mp3, edit it with wavepad, rename it and email it to use as a ringer.
The P key, yeah, it sucks.
I don't like not being able to hear my voice in the headset when I talk on it.
The i/o port covers are really flimsy, can't see those lasting very long, will try and be careful though.
Other than that, I love this phone.

I walk in to a store that only sold verizons Only and they didnot have the U740 in stock and they never heard of it,but the sales guy said that they give the $50 rebate Instantly.But with my 2 years $100 off on a new phone would only be $50 from them.So I guess I was better off going to the mall and getting the phone....
Anyway got to the Mall and they didnot have them in stock,,,but all of the other phones were $10 higher then on the Verizons website...
Anyway the women looked on the computer and saw they got some in on Monday and had to go to the other end of the mall to get a case of them lol.....

They had the LG8500 that did nothing for me when it came out.Then I felt excited about the LG8600 but that also dodnot do a thing for me....Then I knew I wanted the LG enV but heard it was as big and not better then the replacement.And I was about to get the Motorola K1m for $99 with the price drop,,,,But i kept hearing about the Samsung coming out SOON.So I waited a few more weeks,I felt the Samsung RF and Audio was pretty good.
So I wanted to wait a tad more...
I am glad I waited its a nice unit,I am sure I will ONLY use it as a phone only in the car...Maybe I will get the Free Internet when it comes on the web.ONLY problem are the keys are a tad small to type in a phone number.

Both on the web and thats not a bad price.....Was going to wait for the Motorola Maxx but I am glad I didnot wait any longer...But it not before the price jumps like on their other phones after a month or sooooooo....JT

There is a way to add ring tones using BitPim BUT it takes some work (see ->http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1111907 ) and pictures can be added if you have MicroSD card (see -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1112274 )...

pix taken with Camera can be copied to PC using BitPim's file system feature... (they are stored in /brew/mod/10888)

that is about as good as it gets... for now...

support for new phones gets added to BitPim when the developers get their hands on a phone... so until one of them gets one... or someone who has one jumps in to help program... we'll just have to sit and wait...

I don't know if it is just me experiencing this or if it is just a setting on the phone itself but i just received the phone and when i am talking the people on the other end hear me fine but there voice cuts in and out on my end. On my razr it was perfect and my brothers vx7000 so i know it cant be the network also i have a pretty decent signal. Any thoughts?

I have not experienced your problem. So far, all of my calls have been coming in loud and clear, no gaps in conversation.

I'd be inclined to get it replaced. If the replacement didn't work right, I'd have to call it a day and move on to a phone that works better in my area.

well my example was just that, an example. Best way is to try using a swear word. Anyways, thats how I always added words on my LG. My buddy who has this phone says he was able to do it, but I never cared to ask how cause I assumed it was the same and I usually use the QWERTY. Ill find out and let ya know (ill try it first though)

if you're talking about a warranty exchange.......then yes. You have a 1 year mfg warranty that the store will honor. Ive done it way too many times. IF you're talking about a refund or phone model exchange.....eh. dunno for sure on that, but in all honesty I dont see why not. 3G2., mpeg 4, AAC 220x176 = unsuported file, won't play

It'd be nice to have the res match the screen, but I've had this problem with 3 videos now and it's starting to look a lot like there is just a cap on res. or possibly on the bit rate.(although I thought they were all at 48k)

i've been testing this since i got the phone monday morning, it plays 176*144 & 128 *96 at 12.5fps & 15 fps, 3gp OR 3g2 it won't play files encoded 200*176, IMO this is a SEVERE limitation that needs to be changed, the media player should support the native resolution/max size ofthe display

i working on find the max video bitrate the phone will support, hoping that this will help reduce the jaggies and pixelation that occurs when viewing video full screen

i like scifi and action movies so it really shows, its not as obnoxious on animations like southPK and family guy

Just got the Moto krzr and got an inexpensive cable that works fine with Bitpim. Reception, sound quality, and feel seem fine - camera doesn't seem great. Using this with wap is, well, painful, to say the least. With NE2, this seems like a good deal.

That said, I'm still in the 15 days, and am thinking seriously of trading for a U740.

Main reason for the phone is to use it as a "phone", so sound quality and reception are important, yet it would be nice to have a keyboard if I want to use wap and if I end up doing some text messaging.

Would I sacrifice anything in sound quality, camera quality, and durability if I switched the krzr for the U740? The U740 will cost a bit more, but the KB would be worth it, if I don’t lose anything I have with the krzr.

I haven't used the krzr, but I can say that this phone sounds great, very natural, no cracklieness and no tin-can-iness. The speakerphone sounds very good too, I've asked a lot of people and they all say I sound very good(a little hallway sounding on the speakerphone, but not at an annoying or incomprehensible level)

My mp3 ringtones sound very good, even at a ridiculous volume, I've been cranking it up too see how far the speakers will go and so far thier holding up fine.

Reception seems decent, slightly better than my a670.

this is a nice display for the moblie web, the font is easier to read than my lg 9900 or my 8100

i am having to adapt to a different keyboard, and going to the symbol screen to a PERIOD for the period/dot in .com ,

but its easy too read , to see the wap pages and read them, much better than my 8100 or the choco, in fact easier for me to read than the LG9900 but the keyboard of the enV is easier to use, still sammy & VZW have packed a lot into a nice form factor

Not sure if this has been stated, but another neat feature on this phone is if you press and hold the play button on the front of the phone (when the front player keys are unlocked), the music player will start. It will prompt you to press play agian, press the key and then your music will start playing w/o flipping opening the phone....

Nice thing...

Using the same caller ID Pix I used on all my other phones (well, started on my Moto's, was too lazy to re-size to try on my LG's)... and they do take up the entire outside LCD

they are 176x146, 158x160, 176x160, 176x136, etc...

The outside LCD is washed out compaired to my Moto's and LG's...

Now, I just have to get used to the NAME showing in such small print on the bottom of the outside LCD when someone calls.. (and I don't have pix)...

I'm not sure what the charge is, but it DUN is supported natively on the phone. If you are talking about using it without paying, thats another story. You should be able to dial into your ISP if you have a dial-up account, or I think there is another service that is pretty cheap, pdanet or something like that. I think it is a one time charge. Dialing an isp or using pdanet will not use evdo though. You gotta pay for that.

When I am just viewing my stored pictures, how do I view them in full screen, as I flip through them they are not fullscreen.

Since I use my Moto HS820 when I'm in the car... and Dock-N-Talk at home.... I often times connect/drop the bluetooth connection...

I haven't completely decided to use the u740 as my primary phone yet, so I haven't paired with the DnT yet... But I have with the HS820.

Yesterday morning, while talking to a friend using the HS820, I ran its battery down to the point at which it powered off, so it disconnected from the phone... I charged it.. when it was charged, I tried connecting back to the u740... No Go... I turned the HS on, it the button and expected the phone to connect... Nope. So I used the phone's menu Settings -> Bluetooth -> highlight the HS820, click OK, it asks "do you want to connect" I say OK... It wouldn't connect

So, I deleted the HS820 from the phone, put it it pairing mode, and re-paired... and told it to connect... it was fine...

Tonight, I visited a friend... I was using the HS820 with the u740 on the drive up... When I got there and parked, I decided to leave the HS820 in the car.. so I dropped the connection using the phone's menu... when I came out to the car, I tried re-connecting... and again.. i could NOT... I had to delete the pairing, and re-pair, then connect.

Is anyone else having this problem? i.e. can you disconnect/connect your BT Headset with the phone "at will" without problems? or do you have to also delete the pairing and re-pair before you can re-connect?

What software are you using to convert to 176x144 3g2's??

I have 3GP-Converter software and I can only change the quality type (QVGA and QCIF) resolution) and also sound quality (15ps Stereo or Mono)

anyone know how I can change the size with 3GP_Converter or is there freeware with unlimited size conversion I can use??

btw, I am making 3GP conversions and copying it to my MicroSD with the card adapter.

Honestly, I love the phone. All the options are great. The only thing I dont like is small. I dont like that we cant use the qwerty when the reg flip is open. Sometimes, I want to just type a text that...because it feels just as comfortable, and qwerty is disabled when you do it like that

I tried to look through the million pages, but can someone tell me what the menu setting keystrokes are so i can set it to enabled, and mess around with my WEP settings to get free wap

Is it just me, or is sound kinda muffled on this phone? Also, when I put the volume up to max, I hear a little little bit of crackling, and it isnt as clear as other phones. Maybe its just my phone, but I wanted to put it out there to see maybe if the crackling is normal on the loudest volume, once again, slight crackling, and not as crystal clear as I thought it would be.

Great find Hatch22!! It was never a big issue to me opening in landscape and going to the music player, but this is a cool feature that I will use!! I found that you can stop the player also without opening by just doing the same thing, holding the play/pause key

I cant really tell if its metallic sounding or muffled, but I did notice a hiss and crackle on its highest setting. Once you go one lower, it just sounds a little muffled, and no crackling. Will wait to see if others have that problem before I return mine, or question it.

yes i'm connected to the internet via the phone, and Verizon is the ISP , not a landline dialup

i'm using the USB cable from the MEK, but you can do this via bluetooth

just set the data port and diag port to bluetooth

I am interested since this is what I heard in the Verizon store on their u740 phone, since I needed to turn up the volume to hear due to store noise - I'm wondering if this happens in ALL u740 phones. I have the krzr now and the sound is pretty crisp, and I don't wnat to sacrifice sound for a keyboard (which is a bit small) and for small number keys.

can anyone recommend a decent pair of headphones for this phone? i thought that by using the adapter that came with the phone i'd be able to uses my regular headphones but it seems that isn't the case. i'm not really concerned with a bluetooth pair of headphones. one with a cord will do. any suggestions?

When you open and close the flip specifically in landscape mode does anyone else notice that it kind makes a click hitting the groove on the top of the keypad or like rubs against it a little when opening or shutting in landscape mode. I just want to make sure my hinge isnt un-aligned or anything. Is anyone else experiencing this? It in no way affects the usability of the phone because everything works great Just wondering if that happens with everyone elses i get a little paranoid sometimes....

Yes, it's just an edged of the flip side rubbing on the edge of the grove in the lower side.

Just noticed myself yesterday and figured out that it doesn't happen if I open it a little diferently.

I bought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo headphones adapter from ebay. This lets you use regular headphones on your phone.

Anyway, here is a standard pair of headphones that will let u listen without the converter...

Did anybody find a way to play videos in higher resolution than 176 x 144 QCIF?? I find it quite annoying that videos in 320 x 240 QVGA won't play.

well thats expecting a bit much since the DISPLAY is NOT QVGA , right now now i'd be happy if it did 240*192

the best video setup i have so far,for this phone is 176*144 12.5fps and 240K bit rate

I've been trying this and I keep getting the the error message that an error occurred with the modem, please verify your settings...
The computer gives me two choices when I'm setting up my bluetooth connection
1 - Set up a Dial up specific access number
2 - Use direct higher speed connection (GPRS,1xRTT)
Which one is the right one?

Also in the system preferences I set up everything to bluetooth, am I missing something?

Ok, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I go to My Pics and it shows all my pictures as thumbnails.
I choose view on one of them and it shows just that picture, but not in full screen, which is highly irratating.
When I go to options on that picture, there is no Zoom item.

If anyone knows how to view my pics in full screen, please let me know.

One thing I found that's a minor annoyance is that if you opt to view the text message on the front screen, it clears the envelope notification that you would normally get.

If your walk up to your phone and missed the initial notification (and remiders are off), you'll never even know you got a text.

Just got the phone today. Everything is great so far but the only complaint I have is when I'm in text messaging mode you have to go 'num lock' key in order to enter in a period. But in mobile web you can enter a period by pressing the 'Fn' key and then period.

And also not having a word option in landscape mode is disappointing.

Other than that great phone.

that i dont know. i know you can email them thru the xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com, or you can transfer them with an sd reader. i've done both and they both work. i havent been able to use bitpim cause i have vista and wasnt able to get it to work with this phone.

I'm pretty new to this techno phone stuff so try to bear with me. I currently have a Moto v710 and will probably upgrade to the u740 shortly. A few questions.
1) Why do people want to use the bitpim method of putting ringtones on their phone instead of just emailing them? I saw someone saying that the quality was worse but how can that be? A file is a file.
2) On my phone you can put a ringtone on the card and then send a message with the file attached to a nonexistent number. The message doesn't send but it goes to your outbox. From there you can set the file as a ringer. Does this method work with this phone?
3) I'm not sure I understand the bluetooth stuff other than as a headset. If I buy a bluetooth adapter for my computer (they seem pretty cheap) can I now transfer files to my phone? Can I use bitpim without a data cable? What else can I do with the bluetooth?
4) Someone seemd to say something about using mobile web on this phone with only airtime charges. How would I do that.
5) I read that I need drivers if I wanted to use bitpim with a data cable (I had never heard of bitpim until I visited this site today). Where can I get those drivers from?

I currently have an A930 which has speakers on the outside flip so the speakers are really good when using speakerphone or playing music. How does the U740's speakers sound since they are on the inside of the flip?

Hotmail Account
Currently I can check my Hotmail email. I was reading on one thread that the MSN email accounts can't be accessed. Does anyone who has this phone have a hotmail email account and been able to access it using this phone?

Screen Resolution
I really like this phone except for the screen resolution. Do you think a higher resolution will show up in future models? That is if they do future models.

The A990's screen is awesome! Wish they'd use that for this phone.

Speakers
I use the speakerphone with the phone closed regularly. There are no problems. The speakers are strong enough that the sound isn't too muffled.

Hotmail
MSN is my ISP. I check my MSN email through Hotmail on Mobile Web several times a day without issue.

Screen Resolution
The screen serves its purpose. I don't view the resolution as a major problem with this phone.

I started reading the a950 codes stickie at the top of this forum

none of the codes had did anything, instead i got a voice msg from verizon telling me i had dialed a disconnected number

but then i went to service menu and pressed 0 'zero' and a new screen came up asking for user lock code ? 10digits I tried my phone number , the ESN and everything else I could think of , but call i got was a msg 'invalid code'

You close it and open it again in standard flip mode. It does not automatically answer the call, for you, when the phone is open.

For those interested in a head-to-head between the two phones, Cnet did a prizefight between the u740 and the 9900. Here's the link:

The results are pretty brutal. The enV pretty much mops the floor with the u740, but what do they know? It's not like they're going to use the phone everyday.

Pretty brutal??? enV 61 points - U740 59 points. That is not exactly what I would call mopping the floor. The reviewers state that the phones are pretty evenly matched (as the scores show). The biggest diffence in favor of the enV is that it is easier to navigate. Well... I can also type better in my laptop, but I can't quite put it in my pocket can I?. Seriously, did anybody expect the u740 to be easier to navigate than the oversized enV?

Huh? EnV 61 points, 740 59 points. That ain't "wiping the floor" where I come from.

Their final image is wrong as well.....the 740 won 2 rounds, the EnV won 3.....overall I think it was a fair review and pretty spot on. As of tonight I am sporting the 740 and my son opted for the Env (to replace the aging 9800). I loathe the size of the 9800/EnV.....yet he was not enamored with the 740 (as I thought he would be).

Chances are...he picked the EnV 'cause I wanted him to pick the 740!! LOL!!!

Really the thing should have been 4 to 1. The fact that they gave the u740 the call quality round is laughable. The u740 isn't in the same league as the 9900, as far as call quality goes.

That being said, I still wouldn't trade the u740 for the 9900, and we all know why. It does everything that the enV can do, almost as well, at a fraction of the size.

HAs anyone gotten the U740 to work with Samsung PC Studio? In the GSM world you need to change a Samsung's USB setting from file-copying mode (shows up as a drive in Windows) to modem mode. I can't find anywhere to do that in the Verizon interface or in any of the debug menus I have seen so far.

These are just regular messages. They go up when i have pictures in there.
