eh kind of. If you emailed a ringer to your phone u can just forward that message as a pix message to another phone. other than that, you cant unless you get them into your sounds folder which ahs more restrictions on filename and size and junk

Anyone know how to REALLY keep the keypad backlight ON! I have changed the settings to "ALWAYS ON". However, as soon as I complete dialing a number and the connection is made the backlight on the keypad goes OFF!!!

(I had the same problem with my Krazr which was one of the reasons I got rid of it)

yeah that is interesting, mine does the same, however with the battery life that people have been talkin of, im curious as to why you would want it to stay on. also while in a call , the side keys can activate the backlight... just an option i suppose.

Has anyone used wireless sync with this phone? The CS reps at VZW can't seem to answer my question regarding what plan I need. Since it's not a PDA or Blackberry (obviously) can I use the VCast service to access wireless sync?

Also, if I have 2 mailboxes setup ( a gmail and IMAP) account, will I still only have 1 inbox on my phone that shows all messages from both email accounts? And when I compose a new message, which email account will it send it from? Does it give me an option to choose which account I want it sent from??

Please help if anyone knows. I really would like to get this phone, but just want to know how the wireless sync option works. I'm would be coming from a 7130e and I know you can't beat blackberry's emailing, but I don't mind if I can simply retrieve my emails in an organized way and then have a small/flip form factor.

I don't see how the side keys turn the backlight on the keypad back on - they change the volume and turn on the speakerphone. As far as why I need the keypad backlight on - to entercodes/key prompts for voicemail or any other automated calls.

Any other suggestions?

I don't have an answer to your 2nd question (multiple accounts) but to access and use the wireless sync feature all you need to do is go to Messaging and go to Option 5 (Wireless Sync Email) - it'll probably ask you to download and install the app. The cost is $19.99/month and it works with your existing plan. You don't need a data plan.

granted they will activate the volume (if hit again), but it will also light up the keypad. also hitting the OK button while talking will activate the keypad and not adjust your volume or anything else, and if you only hit the volume rocker ONCE it will not adjust your volume, hit it again once its lit, then it will change.

Just got this phone last night and spent hours playing with it. Loving it so far. Have yet to get a microSD and put music and videos, but will definitely be trying those features once I get one (one doesnt need VCAST to play own music & vids off a microSD card, right?)

One thing i'm concerned (and always was about this phone) is the dual flip. The top plate seems nudgable if i push it a bit, not as strong as I thought it would be. Is this just typical so you can place the screen at different degrees in landscape? If it's already a bit loose i'll want to bring it to the store, but if it's typical of the phone I don't want to look like a fool in the store

welcome to the club angela, and no you dont need vcast to play your own media off the card.

as for the "nudgable" top clam shell, it does happen on mine, not even an 1/8 of an inch, but its enough to be noticed if you do push it too much. I think its just the result of the design, not much can be done to prevent it. i would say your phone is just like mine and all the others.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned but there does not appear to be a "search specific thread" option in Howard Forums and I just didn't have the time to go through each of the 50+ pages in the thread and text search for DUN.

In any case, I just wanted to confirm that I was able to use Bluetooth DUN to access the Internet from my Dell Axim x51v and the SCH-U740. I paired the PDA and SCH-U740 without any issue. Selected the DUN profile and used the standard Verizon EVDO connection settings to create a connection.

No hacking, No settings changed, No BitPim. It worked right out of the box.

I should note that I do have the unlimited data plan and the Broad Band Access (BBA) a.k.a. "tethering" option on my account.

I hate cases but I would highly recommend getting an invisa-shield for your phone. I just got one for my ipod and I can't say enough. It is a bit tricky to get it on straight the first time, but once it's on it's not coming off. The full kit is $25. http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/SAMU740.html

I had a Silicon Skin for my Treo 600 and loved it (before my Treo just died on me, completely, that is), if only someone made something like that for the SCH-u740...

Well I don't have the phone yet, but I'm due for an upgrade in May so I've been reading up. I have it on my iPod video and it's great. It is 100% clear and is maybe 1mm thick. Check out the demo videos on the website. It's really strong stuff. They key up an ipod like crazy and it looks brand new.

Perhaps your HOLD key is on? do you see a lock next to your battery indicator on your screen when you try to push any of the external buttons? if so hold down the HOLD button on the left side of the clamshell. Once the phone is unlocked the external buttons should work, i believe. Don't take my word completely, i'm still new to SCH-u740

One quick question. Can you use the 12 number keys to text in T9 like a non-qwerty phone? I know that not having to do that is the reason for having a qwerty, but I find that it is easier for one hand typing while driving (no flaming please) and holding stuff. If I could still type the regular 12 key way, that would be awesome.

Lets see how many questions I can answer in one post:

1.) yes when you have the phone in PORTRAIT mode.

2.) To get the external keys to work, (same way you check time_ press and hold the volume UP or DOWN key. Once the light comes on you can press the external buttons (for example press and hold the PLAY button, to play your mp3s). However, you cannot change the volume of the ringer/sound when the phone is closed unless you are on a call.

3.) Yes when the volume is all the way up, (when I had the phone) the sound started to crackle a little and just sound bad. so i always had it on MED high or lower. It was still loud enough for me to hear well and not worry about the distortion

So I read through the 55 pages of posts, and the only thing I can think of that hasn't been asked is can put ringtones on the phone using QPST or do you have to email them to your phone?
Not that it's a problem to send them via text/email, just that it's faster to put them directly onto my phone.

ash, there is no way to clear the msg, or mark it read or anything without opening the phone. simply open and close the phone to clear it. mine as well, since its already in your hand when you read the msg on the little screen.

So is the "invisi-shield" thing like an adhesive that goes on the phone? Once its on there's no way you can ever take it off?
And what kind of protection does it offer, just keeps the phone from getting scratched?
Is it slippery? Definitely dont want to up the chance of the phone getting dropped.

One of the things i liked about the silicon skins was it also helped with gripping the phone. Some company make a skin for this phone!

Seems the phone is comparable to a razr size, so would a razr leather case work (i think this was mentioned once among the 56 pages)? I want something form fitting that will protect the phone when it's in my page or allow me to carry it around without a bag, but dont want something bulky, cause then what's the point of having a slim phone.

Thanks for the reply and all your hard work sorting through the complexities. I have read the guide several times and missed that piece, probably because I didn't want to go through the work of changing all those file names.

I think I need a tutorial on how the Player works. I followed the instructions and I clipped the length of all files to 36 characters or less. Now the player says it sees 254 songs thats about the right count for the the renamed files. Does the player sort and count songs from albums seperately from "Songs" in the menu view? Under Settings/ Memory / Card I think I can I can see all the songs, it's hard to tell since you only see a few at a time and there doesn't seem to be a counter.
Is there anyway to automate the process of sorting so that you don't have to manually rename all the files? Also under Song info it lists several categories but dosen't seem to sort into the listings.

On another topic I asked if the stereo bluetooth profile could be imported from another samsung phone. Do you know if that is possible?

i think i might be? There is this slight squeak sound when i open in landscape.
Actually now when my phone is closed and i nudge the top clamshell a bit, it makes this squeaking sound from the hinge and seems looser than it was yesterday. Has anyone body else experienced this with theirs? maybe i'm being paranoid...
And naturally the top clamshell seems to move more in landscape than in portrait (but i think that is expected)
Thinking of going into VZW next week and seeing if I can exchange for a new phone, if it's just my phone as i'm still in my 15 days.

yeah basically... if anything they will take it to "examine it" and all they will do is toss it around, scratch it up, make the hinge looser by having everybody flip it....... im guessing they call that testing the hinge until it breaks to see if its loose....and then at the end, say oh no its made like that or it was like that before you gave it to us... there is no problem with it...

heh, so much faith in VZW here I see

I expect some play on the hinge, with the landscape hinge being so tiny, but its the "squeak" "squeak" sound that worries me with the play. Am I the only one that hears the squeak sounds? The squeak sound only comes from the hinge when it is closed tho, no sounds with play when openned.

If it's within my 15 days aren't I entitled to an exchange as part of their "satisfaction worry-free guarantee" stuff, or do I have to exchange for a different model in those 15 days.

I've used the 740 for about a month now. It's actually my second because of speakers issues that I guess only a few have encountered.

So, the squeak is definitely there. It's not coming from the hinge, the squeaky sound is actually coming from the raised rubber keypad guard ( by the "P" & bottom grey triangle option button) that is keeping the internal screen from contact with the keypad.

Check it out, grab a cd (compact disk) if you still use those, (DVD) and rub the top of the disk (not the shiny bottom side) along the raised rubber key guard. It starts to sound like you're a DJ, right. So it seems as if the plastic part of the screen (next to the SAMSUNG logo) is rubbing against that raised rubber section.

So I hope I saved you an extra trip to the Verizon Mania store. Who knows how long you would have been in line for, on a Friday night!!!

Hey Angela627, how's your speaker quality when it's up all the way & during a phone call? Is it crisp, clear, crackle/distortion free? I was just wondering.

Hmm, well since there is no squeak when the top shell is open in landscape I think you are right about it coming from the rubber keypad guard. Did yours do this right away or a while after? I didn't notice this the first day I got the phone, but noticed it yesterday.
Tho that doesnt explain the slight squeak/pinching sound when opening the phone in landscape. Kinda like one of those slight crank turning sounds?

I actually never had my speaker on all the way up during a call (i've had the phone since tuesday and so far the only person who's called me is my mom and she talks LOUD), so I can't really say. Tho I did have it on speakerphone this morning which was on one of the higher settings and it came through fine.
Most of the mp3 ringtones I've put on the phone are pretty loud in itself and so far they have come through clearly. Only one I had problems with was a voice ringtone, but I attributed that one more to being an unclear mp3.
Sorry i'm not much help on the sound clarity issue.

Since you've had the phone about a month now. Have you found the small hinge to be looser now then when you first got it?

Well, when I bought the phone I was so concerned about sound quality, reception, functionality, battery life..etc, I really didn't examine the hinge so much. It took a few days to notice the squeak deal. I then checked it out and later found out what was really making that squeak.

Now the "pinch" sound comes standard with all those 740s. I've checked out more than a few at the shop. They all have it, as well as the "squeak." It seems as if the hinge is designed that way. When it fully opens, the hinge sort of locks in place, then opens a bit more. Something in there is making that "pinch" noise (I wouldn't worry about the wires that are in that area).

After using it for over a month, & opening it every time to clear a txt, a missed call, voicemail...etc, it has been SOLID. I have opened it MANY times in the past month. I have not noticed any kind of loose play since I bought it. It's actually built pretty well.

One more question to all u740 owners, Is anyone experiencing weak battery life? I'm talking about 4 45 minute calls, some txts, and some camera use....then one blinking low battery indicator bar.

It's pretty bad. I haven't found an extended battery, although Verizon states they have a 1000mAh Lithium Ion standard battery on their website. My 740 came with a 800mAh Lithium Ion standard battery and Samsung doesn't even manufacture a 1000mAh Lithium Ion for this phone. Get it RIGHT!!! not NOW!

Anyone have a standard 1000mAh Lithium Ion battery out there??? How???

i also am pleased with the build of the phone and the dual hingy. it seems like they thought it through quite good, im not complaining in the slightest.

per the battery issue, while i dont talk on it at work that much, i do go through nearly 50 or so texts, and about 3 or 4 15 min calls, more calls on it at home after 5pm and im down maybe a bar, rarely 2, except the night i brought it home and played with it like a toddler playing with the cardboard box the toy came in.

i did some google searching and no luck on the extended life batt yet, i wouldnt expect it to come around anytime soon, eventhough common sense would tell me that it'd be out rather soon after the phones release.

I tried opening my battery case to see what kind of battery I got (since mine is new I thought maybe it got shipped out with a 1000 "standard" battery listed on their site), but the phone is so durable I can't seem to open the case anymore, lol

per my usage and battery life, I don't really do long phone calls. And like Anthony, text at work but rarely talk. Yesterday I texted a lot and played around for a while on mobile web, it was only after playing with mobile web a lot that the battery indicator went down. I later played some vcast video on it (a total bore, imho, so cancelling after my free month) and the indicator didn't go down. So I have yet to see my indicator go down to 2, but i'm also not a heavy phone user. If i use it a lot this weekend on calls I'll post if I see a significant drop.

I'm glad to hear the noises i'm hearing are normal to the phone and it's not just me being crazy. You all have been most helpful

Since you've owned the phone for a while now, are you using a case of any sort for it?

my standard 800mAh battery must last long... wow after about a hour of mobile web, almost 3 hours of mp3 playing and maybe a couple of 20 min calls.... and then some..... i noticed the battery was still at a strong 2 bars, not as i expected... and even after a 2 hour call at 2 bars, it didnt drop to 1 bar.....i cant say about txting seeing that my dad figured em out n blocked em.
but overall im surprised to see people saying their batteries die out in a day, i give it a charge every two or three days and even without the charge i can last.....

I agree. I talk at least 1/2hr a day and use the mp3 player daily at the gym. Although I recharge daily, I never have less then 2/3 of the battery drained.

When playing a video is there any way to skip ahead 30 second or a minute at a time? I have some TV shows on there and if I stop it half way though and then restart it, I have to hold down fwd for minute or two to get back to where I left off. I have tried every button so I doubt it but, I thought I would ask.

I also have been looking for an extended life battery. I haven't experienced any problem with the standard battery.. but i figured it couldnt hurt to have the extended. It seems strange to me that no one can seem to find them. On Samsungs website you can buy the battery cover that fits the extended battery... even in both black and champagne. I'm going to keep looking for it.. but it doesn't seem like it exists yet.

I just purchased a 2gb Sandisk micro sd card. I formatted the card on my phone then inserted it into my computer. When I try and drag songs into the card it says it needs to be formatted.Then I click format and it says cannot not be formatted?? I have a Samsung Sch-U740 cell. Please help me

Well this weekend i've used the phone a lot. More on texting than phone calls but made a few calls here and there, played on mobile web a bit. I did notice it going down to 2 bars at the end of the day.
I've also heard somewhere that this phone tends to drop the first 2 bars fast but lasts very long on the last 2 bars, not sure where I read that, or how true it may be.

I don't use any type of case for the 740. I'm feel'n the Dom Perignon- champagne color. It reminds me of my old school '71 VW Karmann Ghia with the same black interior.

I use the phone a lot...no scratches...no drops...I don't need a case. I've noticed that the 740 receives much attention!!!

im with richy on the attention getter factor. a co-worker got the silver krzr not a week before i picked up my 740, i brought it in, and after 2 weeks im still hearin "im so jealous, i want a full kb, on and on". like i said earlier in some other post, front left pocket, nothin else but the cell phone, no keys scratch it, no coins ding it. its just a habit and has worked fine for me since. hopefully you arent one of those girls that keep their phone in their back pockets. thats RETARDED unless you fork out the dough for insurance, cuz you know you be sittin on it sometime and have the screen crack or somethin like that.

yeah ive never had less than a half battery either. im pleased with my verizon purchase

Well I want a case not so much to change the color or anything. I actually quite like this champagne color. Just I'm kinda accident prone so Id like to protect it with something. And course I dont want to scratch it or anything.

i highly recommend shield zone

i got one of their screen protectors for my chocolate and can say they are indestructable

i ended up getting a screen shield for my ipod and a full body cover formy u740

just take your time with the install, make sure the phone is clean, lint free, etc....they're prety easy to install and look great.

i've only used the clear ones - my only gripe is when they smudge, its tough to get perfectly unsmudged - but the smudges arent as bad as on the regular surface, not as noticable

oh yea, and they have a lifetime warranty. i had to take it off, and they sent me a replacement.

Is there a way to have the phone give you a missed call alert? I have looked but can only see alerts for actual messages and not just missed calls. It's gotten really annoying as many people have complained about me missing their calls and I never end up noticing. Also, I keep it on vibrate all the time so the alert would have to vibrate. My old Motorola v710 (or something) did this by default.

Nope. The phone will tell you if you missed a call of course, but there is no ALERT for it. Doesnt even have a visual indicator on it. The best advice I can give you is to go into the settings and turn VIBRATE on with phone calls. That way if you dont have it on vibrate, the phone will still vibrate and prob not miss as many unless thats where your problem lies in the first place (not feeling it vibrate).

Has anybody noticed that the viewing angle of the screen in landscape mode is somewhat limited? I have to look at the screen straight on but slightly tilted to see pictures clearly, otherwise if I look at pictures slightly from the side, it's really dark. Anyway to fix that? I don't think adjusting the brightness or contrast fixes that.

its a verizon UI but it has 2 flash themes. the default theme has black bars instead of the red ones. and the 2nd flash theme has blue bars. you can still use the default verizon theme on the UI, but i like the default one.

wouldn't it be nice if you could take screen shots with the phones? lol.

got a hs820 headset off ebay and the guy said the headset wouldn't "pair easily" with his e815 and thats why he sold it... but I have tried and tried but it doesnt pair with my u740, krzr, slvr, vx8300 AT ALL...... its probably just a problem in the headset, when i asked him that by "pair easily" did he mean didnt pair at all....he said eventually he gets it to find the device after trying for a half hour, BUT it does connect he says. for me.... ive been trying for about 3 hours now waiting for something to happen but nothing. could it be that cuz it couldnt connect with the 815 it cant connect with these phones. i tried resetting it and also made sure of a full charge.. should i just return it?

I had trouble pairing it to my Jabra headset and was told by the Verizon guys to make sure both were completly charged.

It worked!

left em both for charging overnight and even tried in the morning... took it to school and tried to pair it with friends' phones... didnt work either.. for a second i thought i had it but then the class ended!!!!!!

Yeah that's exactly right. It goes on alot like window tint on those vinyl decals. Make sure the surface is clean and smudge free (I wore latex gloves), spray some soapy water on, and install. The recommended drying time I think is like 12- 24 hours.

Here is a pic of my iPod with the shield zone installed. You can't really see it in the picture, but that's the exact point. Oh and someone asked about the grip. It does make the iPod a bit easier to hold onto. It's not as slippery as the metal, but the finish is smooth (assuming you get the bubbles out).

Sounds like the headset may be defective. If it is having issues pairing with 3 different phones, then the problem is probably the headset and not the phones.....

I have my u740 paired with a Samsung wep200 and it works so far without issue. Initial Pairing only took a few minutes. I also had the wep200 paired with a moto e815, a moto q, and and lg vx8300 so the success is not due to it being a "samsung thing" (samsung headset with a samsung phone). I just think the wep200 is nice headset.

I know you didnt ask for headset suggestions but... I feel like I should mention a warning. If you are interested in the wep200, dont buy one off of ebay. Too many counterfeits. I got mine from amazon for $46 shipped.

ok, got an idea.. for all you modder's out there... when your phone is open and your trying to make a call to a number that isnt in your contact list and you have to manually type in the number (123-456-7891) it is a bit hard at night.. is there a way to make the numbers light up blue and the letters to light up white?

since you flip the phone one way and they are blue and the other way you flip it they are white. this would make it easier to dial at night when you have had a few drinks and all the buttons look the same.. i just got this phone lastnight, i actually traded a friend for it. i had the Q. he needed the interent and all that, i only wanted a cool phone with a qwerty keyboard...

so anyways, has this been done yet? i couldnt find anything on it?

Short of an LED change, I don't believe there's any way to make any button(s) blue. They are all white, at least on mine, no matter what.

I just installed one on my phone. No sense in taking pictures of it because it's invisible - at least to most cameras.

It took me about 15 minutes to install the whole kit. It is 10 pieces, not 12 which I originally was led to believe. I guess the magic solution and the useless spreader count as 2 parts.

Pro's and Con's:

Pro's:
-Easy to apply, clear step by step directions.
-Durable and sticks well.
-Parts fit perfectly.
-Improves the grip, makes the phone easier to open.
-All functions still work
-Shipping was quick.

Con's:
-They don't give enough of the magic solution for all 10 pieces.
-The parts don't come with a roadmap telling where or how they install. took some trial and error on a couple of the parts.
- Included spreader is useless. The holster worked GREAT as a spreader, which is good because...
- YOU CAN NO LONGER USE THE HOLSTER. The thickness makes it difficult to install, and the stickiness makes it difficult to remove. The battery cover actually stuck and stayed in the holster when I removed the phone.

I would recommend this product to people that don't use holsters and don't like cases. Otherwise, I would go with the screen only protection that they also sell. The one area of the phone that isn't protected is the camera lens - but you wouldn't want to stick vinyl on that anyway.

I got my U740 Monday, so far so good. But... I want to access my job email account with the phone. I go into messaging, 7. email, then to Open URL. When I enter the url for my work, I get a message stating "Security Error: Untrusted server". I know this opens me up, but my job is state govt, so I'm a little nonplussed about "untrusted server". We have pretty serious firewalls here, so I'm sure we are secure. Verizon Tech Support sent me to a website for wireless sync, but that is getting nowhere. Has anyone encountered the "Security Error: Untrusted server", and how did you get around that?

I have had my phone for just 3 weeks and the last 2 days after charging it when I go to bed, by morning its already down 1 bar, and after a 5 minute phone call it goes to 2 bars. I unplug the charger in the middle of the night after its fully charged. Anybody else noticing decreased battery life?

I cant say this is the same for your case, but with me (military) I cannot access my work email for a couple reasons:

1.) Not an originating .mil/.gov address
2.) phone doesnt support HTTPS://

Hold button is for the touch-sensitive keys on the front. For punctuation and similar things, you can press numlock before pressig the key, or hold the key down for a split second.

yes. it means that all the keys on the flip are locked. its good for when the mp3 player is playing. Hold down the HOLD button again to unlock

Its also good for when it is not playing. I have accidently had the player go off at full volume when in a meeting with my professor, and it made both of us jump. I make sure to keep it locked now.

R3GUL8OR, you answer #1 doesn't apply to my case (used to but I'm retired military), but my office site in state government is an HTTPS://. So does that mean no ability to connect with the U740 to an HTTPS:// site? Does going into Wireless Sync or anything else help?

I havnt tried wireless sync so i cant say for sure on that. but HTTPS is a secure HTTP protocol which means the phone has to be capable of handling the certificates which I dont beleieve it is. I have not been able to get onto any HTTPS sites with a phone, but I havnt tried numerous workarounds either.

On the subject of the color of this phone: it rocks! I admit I was a little skeptical of it when I was looking online, but it actuallity it osn't as garish as it appears. The champagne color has punch, but it isnt as obnoxious as gold would have been.

Plus it lets people know right away that it isn't a razr, and when you open it in landscape everyone wants to see what you are pimping. No exaggeration at all I have met 5 chicks just this week because of how awesome this phone is.

As soon as I take it out of my back pocket to answer a text, whatever friend of mine is around snatches the phone out of my hand and is like " you got this? I wanted one of these" and plays with it for half an hour. 95% of the people I know have the EnV, and theyre in awe over my phone. They just can't stand how thick the EnV is.

This phone... is pimp... and Im a girl, so right away I loved the Champagne color cuz it was sparkley [ swear Im not a 14 year old girl. ] Been looking at the phone and it doesnt look like there is any way to change out the face plates though.

it does take some time, but the words that are pretty unique they do pretty well. It's a matter of holding the phone 8-10 inches away and talking normally. Talking...Like...This... doesnt really help eventhough that's what your instict tell you to talk like.

A few things that I hope get addressed in any future firmware releases:

1) Separate images for the portrait and landscape wallpaper
2) Getting rid of the unnecessary black bars behind all the icons
3) Getting rid of the additional ugly bar and icon when you have a calendar entry
4) More capacious txt inbox/outbox or ability to receive txts to the SD card
5) More than 10 entries per contact group / 10 max multi-txt output

If they did something about these rather minor (and very easily corrected) flaws I'd be even more so over this phone.

Hmm I am just using Fine, and max resolution and thats it everything else stock but this is outside very bright area.

Last night at a department store electronics department I bought a Compro car charger. The package states it is it compatible with the Samsung t509, T809, D807, "and many other Samsung phones" . The connection for the phone is correct, but does anyone know about the compatability of this charger with the U740?

I wouldn't bother with it. I've seen aftermarket chargers take out too many batteries in the past. Stick with the OEM charger from Samsung/Verizon.

I have headphones, a 2.5/3.5 adaptor, and the usb adaptor that came in the box and it works, but all the adaptors are just annoying.

yes there are adaptors and headphones (see ebay and samsung.com), no the phone does not have a direct USB port

right, but it seems the headphones that come in VZW's Music Essentials pack plugs right into the phone, no adaptor needed.
Guess im asking if there are OEMs of those types of headphones anywhere, or is the music essentials pack the only place to get them.

I just use slideshow, and then pause it on the photo i want to see full screen and then hit view which makes it bigger. thats te only way Ive found to see them full screen. If anyone elsefigures it out, please let us know!

called customer service ( *611) no extended battery, checked verizons website, no extended battery, so where are they?????

ok they checked the wharehouse and they have them there!!! so i just ordered one for $40.02 (with discount) not to bad!!!

Did they also have the battery cover for the extended battery? Do you know how many mAh the extended is?

I am having the same problem with my battery, I called customer service and they said the battery is under warranty for 1 year so just bring it to a verizon store, not the ones in circuit city or bjs, and they will test it and see if its the phone or the battery and if its the battery they will replace it.

I have the SCH-u740 and an Apple, I have the phone and computer connect via Bluetooth - how do I now go about syncing up my Address Contact list into my phone? Or is there another/better way than re-typing in my numbers.

They show the extended battery and the cover (in both colors!) on Samsung's site but show them both as out of stock. Might want to keep checking back - they may have the cover before Verizon.

I posted a few days back about how to access Outlook Exchange with the u740 on an https:// address. I was unable to get in there to check my email, calendar, etc. I'm not that sharp on software applications to explain what happened, but now it works. I activated Wireless Sync on the phone, and installed the software Verizon from www.wirelesssync.vzw.com on my pc. What confuses me is I'd done those last two steps several days ago, gone through numerous Verizon tech support phone calls and emails, and I couldn't get a connection. Then I tried again last night and everything works. The only shortcoming I see right now is either I cannot (or haven't figured out how to) open attachments. So with this issue resolved I can say this phone is very nice. I note I did exchange the first one I had after two days because I couldn't get it to hold a charge to my expectations (I received the phone march 26). Verizon exchanged it with no porblems, and this one works fine.

so wireless sync allowed you to get to https sites huh? that good to hear. Never used wireless sync so, that solution never crossed my mind. But glad to hear you got it to finally work.

on samsungs website it shows the extended backs, but there backs dont look they will fit??? its got a top and bottom , the u740 only has the bottom!!! has anyone else noticed this!!

no there for cameras, it cost around 6-7 dollars, but you can cut them out to what you want them to be!!!

I know with the LG vx9800 you had to pull up the hidden menu and go into the settings to change it to play mp3s

so... my ? is

Do you have to do that with the samsung u740? or will it just play the mp3s?

the ONLY way i was able to order it was through the store, i went in and they got it through the warehouse somehow!!! thats it!!

I would like to know if the hardware allows multiple key presses simultaneously.. I've had previous phones where it would only recognize 1 keypress at a time so playing games becomes a chore...


I'm seriously considering this phone. I have the xv6700 but I am done with Windows Mobile.. I like the form factor of the U740...

no. send the email form your computer to your PIX account email address (usually xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzwpix.xom) with your ringer attached. it comes out of your "OFF NETWORK" messages allocation (if you have any)

I am not sure what other info you need, but this is what is going on...

I have setup a ringtone to play when a particular calls from my contact list... let's say Bob. So, Bob calls, and Akon/Locked Up plays. But, when I try to setup ringtones for anyone else in my contact list- when my phone rings I do not get the ringtone that I assigned to that caller- I get my default ringtone for all callers that are not assigned a particular ringtone. It's very weird. I do not know why it is working for only one contact. I have all my other contacts (that I've assigned a ringtone) setup the exact same way as the one that is working.

Ah ok yeah thats the info I was looking for.

OK that is odd. What I suggest, go thru the checklist so we can see what might be going on. Keep in mind its JUST a checklist. Sometimes its the best way to isolate an issue. Its not saying you have/havnt looked for these things or that you're stupid or whatever.

1.) Turn off the phone, take out battery, put back in, turn on phone. Try aa couple test calls of different people that are setup for a specific ringer.
2.) Double check the entries, is the phone actually saving the ringtone selection to the contact.
3.) Find a contact that isnt working and try a differnet ringtone for it and test it. Does it ring with that ringtone?
4.) Make sure the ringers that are on the phone actually work. (i know sounds dumb but nothing wrong witgh checking)

If none of this works, in all honesty, look into changing out the phone (warranty exchange). Could be something wrong with the software unless someone else thinks of something for you to check that ive overlooked.

Because the ringers are not from Verizon, technically Verizon wont exchange it out for a software malfunction (the Techs here in Great Falls LOVE it when you tell them you have a phone problem and you have custom ringtones, it becomes the phones excuse for everything that goes wrong). so if you do exchange it out, find a diff bug that annoys you for the reason

you must have a PIX account already setup. If you dont, do so. If you do have one, double check the email address to make sure its going through. Set the message to PLAIN TEXT. Not HTML, or Rich Text. Attach the file as you would for anything else you send in Outlook.

I use outlook to send my files, so I know it works, we just need to see where its not working on your phone.

Also try sending just a simple text message (no attachments) to your phone to see if the phone takes it. If it does we know the problem is lying in the attachment (possibly, not always, but possibly).

You DO NOT need a 1 when dialing a long distance number on a wireless phone (not talking international) or putting the number in your phonebook

Thanks R3GUL8OR and Kopeke - I didn't think of removing the battery- that didn't work - but it was a good try. However, adding the area code did the trick. I honestly did not think the area code would make a difference, as I have NEVER had to do that with my past phone, however, after I put the area code in and checked it... voila ringer! You guys are the best! THANKS AGAIN!

I am sorry if this is already here somewhere, but I missed it. My last phone was the Moto e815- to get music on that micro sd all I had to do was drag and drop from xp to the chip. I am having nothing but problems trying to get my music from my pc to the chip. I've installed the vcast music kit and the drivers (I have also formatted my chip - I am ready to go), but I am just not able to figure out how to manipulate my music onto the chip. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

before we go ANY further..........did you by chance happen to read the Offical Samsung u740 Guide and FAQ sticky at the top of the Samsung forum regarding mp3's? Theres a whole section on it.

Yeah - I read it. That's where I got the link for the drivers, but it doesn't really go into how to get my music off my pc and then onto my phone. Both media player and vcast are not allowing me to isolate my music folders like xp does- I have a sh_t load of music vcast is really having problems... I must be doing somethig wrong... I don't know.
