Picture messages taking HOURS to get

Anyone else having this problem...me and my girlfriend are always sending each other pics..she's on Cingular and I'm on Verizon...seems if I'm in NY at work..she'll get my pics pretty quickly...at home here in the Poconos, PA...pictures could take anywhere from 1-6 HOURS to get to her...and same for her sending them to me...she sent me 4 pics around 2PM today...10PM now and I only got 2 of them so far.

What's the deal? Verizon is trying to tell me there's a delay with Cingular customers who were members since they were first AT&T.

Just a couple things that might help you -

Make sure to check the indicators on your phone to determine the coverage area that you're currently in.

If you see a 1xRTT indicator, you are not currently within a Verizon Wireless Digital Service Area and will not be able to send or recieve PIX or FLIX messages until you enter a digital area. If you see an EV indicator, this might be a delay due to the Cingular/AT&T switchover, which I've heard of before as well as a known issue.

Using *228 + SEND - Option 2 to update your PRLs might help your phone recognize new digital coverage due to towers coming up that your phones aren't currently recognizing as well.

Give these items a shot and good luck!

intersting...did not know all that. Right now at home, where i sent the pics from...it shows 1X on my phone....and trying tht *228 was "unsuccessful..please call VZW....."

I'll get the pics eventually...but just takes FOREVER!!!

As long as your phone shows as "1X", you wont be able to send or recieve PIX of FLIX messages over the VZW network, or update your PRLs automatically with *228 option 2. When you see the EV indicator on your phone, these pictures will send and recieve as intended.

Sorry you had to hear the news from me, but I hope I was able to clarify.

No... you CAN send pix and recieve them over 1xRTT. If he was on Extended Network or had a flashing roam indicator, that would make sense. But if the OP is with a 1x signal without Extended Network with the ERI actually reading "Verizon Wireless", they should be able to recieve and send fine, just at the 1x speeds.

For what it is worth, *228 can fail well within a VZW service area. I've had it happen and I have 4 bars on both the EV and 1x signals.

yeah..tested it out. Sending pics to the Cingular person in EV mode...she gets it within minutes...at home in 1X mode...up to a several hours!!
