Like the title said, how do I go about suppressing the camera shutter sound in normal ringtone mode? Thx.

I don't think that it can be currently done.

The only way to get the camera sound to shut up is to unbrand and put the phone in silent.

man, my phone IS unbraded and there still the shutter sound in slient mode

You don't have to unbrand to mess with the shutter sounds.

I got this from the TUTORIAL thread on how to flash Cingular W810i without debranding (I haven't tried it myself yet):

If you want the camera to not make noise even when not in silent mode, delete/replace the shutter mp3's.

camerashutter file is not in mp3 format but rather 3CPP format

Mine is cingular branded and I just turn the fone on silent and I get zero shutter sound.

well turn it to silence will work...but that's annoying cuz you have to switch audio profile everytime use camera.

so basically replace the camerashutter#.3pg file with a blank one works..just did it... There are like 4 camerashutters sound, just replace one of them and pick the one you replace and that's the "silence" one...it'll remain since regardless of whatever profile you choose. If you want sound, just pick another camerashutter file in your camera setting.

A ll you need to do is press and hold down the # key for 1 second and it puts it in silent mode, how is that a pain? Do the same thing to turn it off silent mode.

How do you create a silent 3GP file?

All I did was delete camera sound 4. When that is selected, there is no camera sound, but the auto focus does make a sound (but I deleted that also).

Are you saying that you deleted the auto focus sound, and it still makes the sound afterwards?

No, if you delete sound 4 and don't delete the autofocus it still amkes a sound, but I deleted both so mine is completly silent even in normal mode

just make a blank text file and rename the extension from "txt" to "3pg". I think that's the simplest way..give it a try.

Sorry for the noobtastic question but I can't figure out how to find the "tpa/preset/system/sound" directory. Unlocked/Unbranded phone, I'm plugging it into my PC and using Explorer to browse the phone files. That can't be the right way to do it because I can't find jack. Help?

You need to break into the phone using Far+Sefp. It's called the breaking method w/o brute forcing. Read about it and make sure you know what you are doing before you go in.

Yes that works. Da_G went through the trouble of customizing files to enable things like flash menus, mp3 ringtones, and stuff like that while keeping cingular's goodies. Of course that is for cingular phones, just follow his read me if you are with cingular. I don't think he has a silent camera shutter sound so you still have to do it yourself.

Both my w300 and 2 w810's had silent cameras in silent mode with Cingular branding.

Just a side note.

Before deleting the autofocus and shutter4 sounds, I backed them up to my computer... just in case.

Anyway, I'm LOVING not having those stupid sounds anymore in Normal mode. Having to remember to push # all the time was annoying.

So if after unbranding and using the customization.xml with suppressed shutter sound true doesnt work. then I should use the break in method?

because i just flashed/unbranded mine. changed the cust file and double checked to make sure the shuttersound toggle was true. But still makes the sound even in silent mode.

So you need to use Far+Sefp to delet the camera sound clips right. .... following this:

Do i just follow the procedure above (Step #1-17) ??

Yeah just follow those steps, go to this directory: tpa/preset/system/sound , find sound4 and autofocus and delete them.

Help guys,

when i'm in FAR, .....i didn't see "Bootscript: w300_w810_z550_cid49 " .. i only
saw "K750/w800 .. cid 36" .... i guess it NOT right to boot with cid36 ? since our Fw is cid red 49. .... what did you guys do at this step?? and... i also couldn't find "tpa/preset/system/sound" .. is there somewhere i can type in this directory??
