Only refurbished replacements via warranty?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I called the warranty line to get a replacement sent for my malfunctioning 8525. I asked them to send me a new phone rather than a refurbished phone. They said they only provide refurbished phones. Does this sound correct? Thanks in advance..........Wendy

Just buy another and return the one you have under the 30 day policy. I was having problems with mine as well. The screen is white and only comes back occasionally. I'm still within my 30 days. So instead of a refubar 8525
I opted for the buy a new one return the old one.

I'm kinda sad that I had problems cuz I just got my 8525 the way I wanted it.

But yes warranty replacements are usually refubar devices

Bummer really.

Wendy,

That is correct. You give them a broken used phone, they give you a working used phone.

However: In my opinion, refurbs are better than new: they have been tested and are known to be working...held and used by human hands...where as new phones are just manufactured quickly checked by a computer and thrown in to a box.

The refurb phones come with new housing, so they look just like new...and unless you were told, I'd doubt you'd be able to tell the difference.

The only time you will get a new one for a warranty replacement is if they are out of refurbs to give you...typically only happens when your phone is pretty new...or when you are within your 30 day return period, and you take it back to the store.

Here is where it all goes sour. If you have ever seen these people who test out refurb units they dont exactly go over the phone with a fine tooth comb its a broad testing method and is not very accurate. I would take it back to the store if its within 30 days for a warranty swap.

If you are within the 30 days they do a new switch in the store. After 30 days it is only refurb, you are giving an old phone so expect an old phone in return.

xultar: Are you saying to start a new contract then return the old phone within 30 days under the new contract you just started. Even buying at full retail price I dont think this will work since the IMEI is ont he reciept and they will check if you try to return the wrong device.
