Got the 8800. Hmmmm. GPS

Got the 8800. Charging. Looks like a FAT Pearl. Keys....Could see the reviewers negatives.
Interface is a much better relief from the 8700.

Media support is nice. Like MP4 video playback.

Like the headphone jack.

No Jogdial will take time to adjust to....Jury out.

Apps----where's the GPS apps? I'm assuming these are a download because Blackberry Maps is NOT built-in.

Any comments on the GPS ?

I'm using Telenav on my 8800 and it works awesome. I love the 3D maps.

Is the headphone jack 3.5mm?

You do need telenav. Mine came preloaded.

Blackberryforums has complete instructions on loading BB Maps. I did it and can access the BB Maps and my GPS.

That would be the intent of the device (well, aside from the lack of a camera) -- RIM has always released full qwerty and SureType device counterparts since the 7100t.

google maps not supported yet.need Telenav for 10.00 per month. Works well thou. only buy if you travel a lot and dont have Nav. in your car.

I've used both BB Maps and Telenav with the 8800 and it works great. I have absolutely had no issues with GPS on the 8800.

..How is the keypad?

Posted by: Moderator HF 7

I find that the keypad is a bit cramped, it took me some time to get used to it.

I've been using the Bberry Maps app, works fine for me, plus it's free.
-If I get ambitious, I might try the Telenav free trial to see what it's all about.

Keyboard took maybe a day or so to get used to. A nice step up from my 7290. Like the fact that I no longer have to carry around a phone, a Bberry for email and calendar and an mp3 player (I got a 1gb sd-micro card and can fit about 300 or so songs).

Had one of the 7100's prior to this and returned it after a day, couldn't stand the multiple letters on each key. I prefer the QWERTY keyboard.

I've been happily using Telenav. Loaded BBmaps just to have it but it's pretty poor in comparison to Telenav IMO.

Simply put, you get what you pay for.

The gps on the 8800 with telenav is spectacular for a mobile device. I haven't tried it out enough to see how smart and logical it is yet though. It has 5 diff driving options distance, time, hwy, local, etc... But telenav map is great and I'm surprsed how smoothly the animations kept up on edge network. Never has it unloaded spots on the map like you see on google.

For the 1st poster, the telenav app is included. Its actually a web browser icon at 1st. Its worth atleast a demo. It's otherwise 100$ online at telenavs site.

The keypad is a bit cramped. Bit the ridges really do their job and I'm really starting to like it. Buttons are easier to push than the 8700, meaning softer, but I've realized it makes it very effortless to type. Although I must admit I was a skeptic at first.

This phone is a keeper in my eyes. Since I have no need for a camera (unless its a really good one like on the n73 or k800) and I. Have no need for wifi either. Edge + mini have been bread and butter for me anyways.

i've been trying to dl telenav onto my 8800 but havent figured it out..can i get some help please

and i got an unlocked 8800 and my service provider is tmobile

probably not going to be able to get it to work dude
telnav needs to make an appearance in your service book to work
the tmo network aint gonna give it to you

also requires subscription but i gues you could get that directly from tn
at any rate the download is here http://ota.telenav.com/ota/tn/8800/telenav4.jad

good luck
