Blackjack voicedial over bluetooth headset

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have been searching all the reads for a final word on voicedial capabilities on the blackjack thru a bluetooth headset.

I currently use a jawbone bluetooth headset and razr v3i.
I press the call button on the headset and I hear "say a command", I respond either name dial or digit dial, then speak the name or digits.

Will this work with the blackjack without having to touch the phone?
Thanks

Final word is it won't work with any BT headset - at least not unless/until there is an update to the Bluetooth stack.

First, there is no voice dialing software on the phone out of box. Second, even if you find a voice dialing software (like MS Voice Command), none of them work with BlackJack via BT.

Samsung in their infinite wisdom replaced the audio gateway component on the phone with one of their own design that doesn't work with anything.

Not only will voice dialing not work, you also get the joys of finding out that the device can't handle being paired to two or more BT devices (a headset and car speakerphone for example) without having to go in manually and tell it which one you want it to connect to.

Thanks for the info. I was getting ready to make the switch but this kills it. I've gotten used to being able to make calls while driving without having to touch the phone.

Anyone know of a similar smartphone (size and feature wise ) that will dial over bluetooth.

T-mobile DSAH and Moto Q?

you might just look into a car speakerphone system with bluetooth like the parrot... I'm going to get one so I don't need a headset at all in the car.. pairs with the BJ automatically and has full phonebook with voice dialing so that might take care of your problem. Granted you need to hardwire it to the audio player in the car.. but you might be happy with it!

I highly doubt that the Parrot's phonebook, voice-dial and other advanced features will work with the Blackjack, seeing as those features don't work with any car/speakerphone/gps Bluetooth systems and the BJ.

I have confirmation from a number of folks that it does indeed work correctly with the BJ.. For the initial phonebook transfer, you do need to transfer each entry individually, although multiple numbers for each contact do sync automatically. Once it is sync'd.... the BJ does connect to the parrot and is fully functional.

Here are some links to the findings... http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ighlight=parrot

Good Luck!

OK, one 3rd party Bluetooth device works (sort of) with the Blackjack. Let's all go and celebrate!

The Blackjack is a piece of crap and I regret ever buying it.

to each his/her own I guess.. sure the bluetooth has some issues that hopefully will be fixed with a hack or a firmware upgrade but the rest of the phone is great. What do you want the phone to do or what problems have caused you to call it a piece of crap?

For me.. its a phone (to talk on - it does this quite effectively) and a gadget device 2nd (slingbox, games, quick web browse, occasional email, appts - also done nicely with 3rd party apps).

I would like the phone to be able to do the things that other WM5 phones like the Dash can do;

Have the battery last a day
Have Bluetooth actually work (handoff between multiple devices without having to go into the settings every time)
Be compatible with MS own voice dialing application.

If the Blackjack was a $150 phone I would say it's fantastic, the fact that it's $300-$400 with contract and has these limitations is frankly unaccepteable. Even more annoying is how people fawn all over the handset when it has so many problems.

Like you said, to each their own. I'm going to pawn off the Blackjack on my company (they are going to take over the account) and I'll get a phone that actually works.

Yeah.. hear ya. The battery thing is disappointing.. especially with all the technology out today. My battery does make it through the day but then again, I'm not watching TV on it all the time. The voice activation issue is a problem - samsung crippled it and they shouldn't have.

I wouldn't pay 300-400 for any phone off contract.... just not worth it. I paid $95 for the blackjack with a new commitment so for me was worth it. oh well... maybe something else will come out to correct these problems. They are on the right path though!

I've got a beta Fonix VoiceDial and it's working on my Blackjack like charm. Loaded on my Storage Card, with my processor overclocked to 240 Mhz.
Tomorrow I'm going to try out a noise-cancelling BlueTooth headset, and see if everything plays together nicely. I'll let you know...

Fonix would have had to have built their application with drivers that could talk to the propietary Samsung BT Audio Gateway that is included in the Blackjack for it to work. While possible, it is somewhat unlikely the case.

We can only pray at this point that WM6 build for the Blackjack addresses the bluetooth issues.

As it is I only use the Blackjack when I have to. The rest of the time I use an icky Moto RAZR V3x
