Well Ive been looking around for decent themes for my newly acquired 8800 and cant seem to find any clean good quality themes for it so I decided to make my own... and share it with you fellow 880x users cos I feel your pain

Being a former Moto owner and modding enthusiast.. I found that Nokia has some REALLY limited modding abilities so I did the best I could with limited resources and theme modding software.

..and its about time I gave something back to this great forum and incredibly competent forum members.. (well some of them, especially in the Moto foums

)

8800 LTD theme:
This is my favourite and I spent alot of time tweaking it...

Bleed theme:
I put this theme rather hurriedly, I dont use it but I know alot of 8800 users like a white background.

I cant take credit for these amazing icons though, they can be found at iconfactory.com and deviantart and various other icon sites. Especially the music icons by pornoralle, the Bleed icons are from the amora win set by david lanham. Although I have tweaked a few to blend in with the respective themes.

Thanks for the compliment man....

i noticed you have a 8801. If you use the 8800LTD theme you can make out the screen burn left by the standby clock on the idle screen .... that is if you havent noticed it already

lol...havent installed it yet as I just downloaded it. I'll check it out though. Good work as these are 2 of the cleanest themes i've seen yet!!

Its a pleasure to assist my fellow 880x owners in this land of lacking themes... Lol.

Any requests? Though i am working on a starwars theme, but thats my personal preference... I know nt many people like starwars(wierdos

)..

really nice work indeed. we certainly don't have enough themes for the 208x208 screens..You think it's possible to come up with maybe a Vertu looking theme? I can take pics of the UI from mine and maybe give you some ideas to put something together.

Hi phattbam,

Instead of taking pics as i dont think itll retain the same quality of picture can you send me the vertu theme file? From my understanding it also runs on series 40 so...

Just zip up all the files under your "theme" folder or what ever it maybe called... and Ill try my best to duplicate the theme.

Time is a bit of an issue for me.. but ill try my best.

Oh yeah.. and thanks for the compliments guys, means alot

You should have vertu's version of the pc suite.. if you dont, follow the link below to download it

It should have a file browser... just navigate to the themes folder and save the files to the pc then you can pm me and ill give you my email address.

Im not familiar with nokias pc suite though or vertu's for that matter...

If that doesnt work you can try oxygen Phone manager which has support for the vertu signature... it works through bluetooth so you shoudnt have a problem with the ascent.

awesome.. I dont have the data cable but I do have a BT dongle. I'll try this later today. and hopefully we can get something Vertu-like on our 8800/8801's..

Ok I got the vertu pc suite up.. there are no themes folders on the phone's memory.. I guess it's not possible. =(

Dont give up yet man!

Since you have the bluetooth dongle please give the Oxygen phone manager a try... make sure its version 2 though as it adds support for the Vertu Ascent.

Im not surprised that Vertu doesnt give you the option to freely browse the folder structure in your phone... it is their software.

Oxygen is third party so it'll give you a lot of more options and functionality... and access to the gallery and theme folder.

Good luck... I dont know how this theme looks.. but I WANT IT!!!

they're already on mine.. still trying to find a way to get the vertu theme from the ascent. but there's not themes option on the phone at all.

great icons man! love them, i modified it slightly for use on my phone, but i used a lot of the icons you used, you did a really great job! please keep it up.

I think it would be great if we started a 208x208 Nokia 8800/01 Theme Tread - if any of us have made themes or things like that we can post them there and have a collection of all of them. If a theme does not have an icon package in it - it is pretty much useless though.

You can use Nokia S40 Theme Studio 1.2 but I just open it up as a ZIP unzip it, modify "theme_descriptor.xml" then make new icons. ZIP it back up change it form .zip to .nth and there you have it. The theme I use is a logo with my initials on it and blood splatter on the back. All black and white icons.

Phattbam please try Oxygen phone manager 2, the trial has limitations although its sufficient for what you require it for.

Trial version applies certain limitations on program functionality:

-Writing only 1 entry (of each category) per session
-Calendar, Gallery and MMS Manager are read-only
-Opens http://www.opm-2.com page every time you try to open WWW page from phonebook
-Adds "www.opm-2.com" text in SMS and suppress their deletion
-Adds "UNREGISTERED" to e-mails subject
-Restore phone feature is disabled

The theme file might have an .nth or maybe .vth file extension... good luck!

I'm having a hard time connecting the phone with the oxygen phone manager program. It wont detect the phone.

Can you verify that youre using version 2.12.5.68? You can look in the "About" window under the help menu.

It also lists the Vertu Ascent there as a supported phone.

How about a theme where the background color is roughly similar to the color of the the grayish dark park just around the screen, that way when it illuminates it looks uniform. I'm not sure if i'm being far fetched here, but what about the icons being simple outlines, very minimalist... have you seen the w810's Orbit theme? something along those lines.

The problem with creating a dark theme with this phone is that nokia does not give us the ability to change the colour of the text.... and you guessed it, yes, the text is black. Limits your creativity...

yeah that's the one I have. I can pair my phone with the Vertu PC suite with no issues but without the suite I can't pair it with just my laptop.

Well Im assuming thats because the sirocco is Series 40 3rd edition as opposed to the original 8800 which is 2nd edition.

Though I cant seem to figure out why Bleed would work then... Both themes are created using the same resolution of icons and backgrounds.

The only thing that may be a factor is the ringtone. I will remove it and email it to you. Please PM me your email address.

Hackysack: Im working on a couple of themes... will post them when im done. I like simple clean design as well.

hey not sure if it's been done, but is there a theme out there thats similar to the mac theme, but with a gray overtone.. like instead of the blue background it's gray, and maybe the icons are also grayed out? I use my phone at work, and i want it to look as professional as possible. (i actually got lectured last week for having a spiderman theme! i need a new job)

Heres another theme that Ive created for myself. Its Star Wars based and Ive created a separate wallpaper for it. I didnt set it as the default wallpaper in the theme as I thought some of you might not like it so I included it as an option.

I just thought of something.. please don't flame me for this request.. but do you think it's possible to make a theme that would resemble that of an 8890 monochrome screen? maybe that's doable now with just a simple wallpaper.. I dunno. I'm not thinking straight right now

Bad news there im afraid... Nokia doesnt give us the option to turn it off. It has been discussed before and some people were hoping that a new version of firmware would change it into a scrolling clock or give us the option of at least disabling it. But no cigar...

Soz dude...

Btw people have replaced their screens because this "flaw".

No idea... though in my opinion it really doesnt matter what wall you use.... that stupid clock is going to come on anyway and burn those pixels. The clock isnt even overlayed over the wall. Its just a white screen and the clock. Really annoying...

I just found a way to "disable" the clock.. turn off your power saver mode. and use a blank wallpaper. hopefully that helps. I dunno if blank white is better than blank black.

Woah thanks dude... never thought of trying that considering the "excellent" battery life

but im thinking the screensaver could do more damage. Youre right, a blank screensaver should be perfect. Im thinking black is more safe... ill mod the themes to include it as default.

that would be cool. I guess I've been wanting to use my 8890 so I kinda like that 'look'.

Nospheratu: I just switched to using the analog clock for my screen saver and I disabled the power saver.
