I was thinking about getting one but was wondering how it is to use as a everyday phone? is just to damn big? manageable? will it fit in a pocket? any pocket? I have a herald now and my my main reason for thinking about the switch is texting and wifi surfing. any and all imput would be awsome. Im sure there will be more questions to come but thats it for now.

I had one and it was too large for the weekends, the fact it doesn't have an external screen doesn't help.
All in all I wasn't overly impressed with the Universal, it was cool but didn't do any one thing great.

The Uni is my everyday phone, and I have been very impressed with it. If you are into texting and wifi surfing, it will be perfect for you. I do have to warn you though, too much time spent surfing the web will definitely cause the major battery drain. I have had the Uni since day one pretty much, and I can't wait for a successor. The size isn't much of a problem, I have a belt case and keep it on my hip. It really isn't as big as you might think, it fits perfectly in my hands. I can say though that long conversations with it on my head does cause for slight discomfort in my elbows, so make sure you have a bt headset. Overall though, I have had a wonderful experience with it as a daily driver. You probably get more of a response if you would have posted this question in the PocketPc section.

i did post it there as well, I wasnt to sure which would be the better forum to post it in. i think the size is the only real issue i have. carrying it around i could see being a pain. But, i got one anyway so i guess will see soon enough.

well .. I went and ordered one from overseas, and its on its way.

while i was waiting and excited .. i did more research. the same research i should have done before purchasing.

you do know it does not support EDGE, right? My current phone (treo 600) doesnt either, just GPRS. I already pay for unlimited internet with icngular, regardless of how it gets to me. And since 3g UTMS isn't available in my immediate area yet .. I'll be slow browsing using GPRS, or WIFI if I can find an access point and sit still. I will try out the universal for a few weeks when I get it , but will probably end up selling it on here or on ebay. I will probably be going for the 8525 next .. since it's GPRS, EDGE, 3G, and WIFI.

Main reasons i went with universal: I can hide the screen as protection against damage, and stand it up on a dash board to play movies. The HUGE 640x480 sounds amazing. And it takes SD cards.

BUT ..... unfolding i think will be come annoying in one-handed walking around situations. The HUGE 640x480 screen takes extra processing power to populate (jerky video, power consumption), and leaves unused plastic space above and below. Micro/miniSD cards aren't that expensive after all.

So take all of my after-purchase research into your Post-purchase decision making !!!! I would go with something thats Quad-band instead! and ... i will .lol

i love my universal, i do think that with tech advances, now if they made the same phone it could be twice as thin, and that would be awesome

it is bulky. but not having to convert vi's and just playing them after copy them to the device is all kinds of awesome.
also it having a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack is very good, 4gb sd card max. i filled mine easily. watched a lot of anime on it and kept a spare battery.

installed windows mobile 6 on it.
