Enhanced Image Quality

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Todd-Mobile

Just got something of the SEMC developer site for you guys

An improvement has been made to the image quality obtained on P800 when a PersonalJava application
loads graphic images and photos into the application for display.

Improvements to the PersonalJava color adaption algorithms means that images are better adapted to
the 4096 color display capability of P800. Due to an optimized dithering feature
the percieved image quality will equal or exceed that of the stock native picture application.

The update is provided as a SonyEricsson signed SIS file 'ImageFix.SIS' that is installed onto the P800 device.
The update need only be done once.

This provides an picture quality enhancement for all existing P800 PersonalJava
applications that draw Image objects on screen (using the java.awt.Graphics.drawImage() methods).

HOW TO INSTALL
==============

Extract the file 'ImageFix.SIS' from the Zip file.

Connect the P800 to your PC via the cradle and PC Suite.

Double Click on the SIS file on your PC to
initiate the download/installation onto your phone.
Follow the instructions on the PC screen.

Additional Notes
================

After this installation any PersonalJava application you use on P800 will benefit from the enhancement.

In case you by any reason reformat the file system the installed enhancement will disappear.
If so you need to repeat the installation in order for the enhancement to work again.

FOR WHAT P800 UNITS IS THIS ENHANCEMENT APPLICABLE ?
==================================================

The image enhancement will have effect for all P800 devices where the version identifier of 'Organiser SW'
begins with the two characters "R1" (as in "R1C02"). Later Organiser SW versions (beginning with R2 and later)
have this feature included by default. Installing this enhancement on such units will yield no difference
in image quality.

To be clear, you speak for yourself.

Just like I will speak for myself now: I like those threads. i like seeing the enthusiasm I had when I first got my P800. And I hope fuddy duddys like yourself won't discourage future posts of that nature.

I was simply voicing MY opinion. Last time I checked, 1st amendment rights were still in efect here in the US. My point is: if you have a sudden urge to post gibberish, kwofykid, direct your post to the lounge. Instead of worrying about my statement, grind your coffee beans in your mouth and brew yourself a pot o' java or something. Lets not turn this thread into a flame war as I do not intend to add further to this discussion.

Good day

Below are two comparison snapshots from the P800 screen, showing the "PhotoViewer" PersonalJava application without and with the ImageFix installed.

It appears to be a full screen picture viewer of some sort. I read that SE was planning to include it in a future firmware update.

Nice pick, I just installed and it really does quite a bit better job for displaying pictures now. =P

From the readme it sounds like they're going to have a R2 firmware soon. Which could be, a new UIQ interface??

Posted by: Todd-Mobile

R2 is "out" but only avail in sweeden or germany....but right now the latest is still r1g05, from what I have read the new firmware does not include UIQ 2.1......not yet anyway...

The two (2) latest software versions:

Until the major revision comes out in April, the P800 on the left represents the very latest available.

Can someone post a high resolution picture of a P800's screen with and without the image enhancement (dithering) app?

Thanks

Hey, Mark, what improvements do the R1F and the R1J give?
