This has been asked for many times.
Find the file cingular.home.xml in the directory called \application data\home
Open the file using notepad or other .xml editor
About 1/4 of the way down there is a line that looks like this:
<plugin clsid="{6DB6BCE8-E727-4ed4-BC16-20A7FEA2443E}" name="mail" />
That is the line that inserts the annoying expressmail add in the home page.
Delete that line and the space under it.
Important: also, about 4 lines from the top, change THIS LINE:
<title>Cingular Default</title> to substitute a new name for the page
(I used <title>No Express Mail</title> for mine)
Now save the file with a new name, such as "nomail.home.xml" IN THE SAME DIRECTORY WHERE THE ORIGINAL WAS.
You can now switch to this home page using the menu: Settings, display, Home Screen, and choose the new home screen. Keep hitting "done" until you are out and there you are. You should now be able to see an extra line on the screen and missed call messages etc.
Whew.

What about adding certain applications to the home screen. For instance i would like to add "Internet Sharing" to the desktop, unless someone has a faster way to enable bluetooth pan for tethering.

sure.. use facade, phonealarm or a bunch of other 3rd party apps. It completely makes your phone a different beast! What a difference!!

Do you know if there is a way to get rid of the error message for the calendar when you remove the Express Mail program?
