When I loaded a pic onto my phone via bitpim, it "erased" some of my pics that were already on the phone. It seems as though it may be hidden so to speak in the memory of the phone, but i'm not sure which files i may need to delete and/or restore in the filesystem to get my old pics back, and I don't want to mess up my phone. Can anybody help me?

there is a post about bitpim and it's memory cache, bitpims GUI windows work with a 'cache' on the HD, then sends the modified cache to the phone when you are fished and do the send data

when using bitpim and it's GUI windows

ALWAYS do a 'get data from phone' for what ever file type you are going to work with,

then you can add or delete, when done working you SEND data

IF you do NOT do a get data, before adding a file ( you will be working with an empty cache and the only thing in it will be your NEW data, the SEND function will overwrite the old data index in the phone, and the only thing that will appear to be in the phone is the NEW file you just added

what you need to do now is use the 'file system ' option in bitpim

and look at the 'mp' folder brew/download/16542/mp those are your pictures, what ever is there is what is really in the phone, even if you see less names OR more when browsing thru the phone menu

now find the mp.dat file and delete it

close bitpim, unplug cable

turn phone OFF/ ON

this will cause the phone to rebuild the mp.dat ( index file list )

NOW browse your pictures

anything you lost is gone and cannot be recovered, anything that was in the list, but wouldn't show, will no longer be in the list, IF ? it was once there, but you can't find it, you erased it, when you sent data to the phone with out FIRST having read it from the phone

I hope this helps

the usual question is I deleted pictures from my phone with bitpim but they are still there ?

what happens is they deleted the pictures in the cache, ( bitpim will open the last cache when started )

they didn't do a get data and a send data

they deleted the pictures in the cache, and did NOTHING to the phones files

I never use bitpim to delete something from the phone that is working correctly, ringer music or wallpaper, I will remove from the phone using the phones menus

my next bit pim session the first thing I do is GET data , for those file types, usually I get data, for ringers, music, and pictures/wallpapers

so I don't make any more mistakes
