Good mid-range slider?

I'm in Toronto, Canada, and Guvernment (a club) recently claimed my K700 (which I bought because I lost my previous phone, the T310 in the same club before).

I am getting kind of tired of candybars, and I hate flips, so I'm looking into a slider as my next one. My budget is roughly $400CAN. I'll be on the GSM network here - Rogers/Fido. I don't really use my phone camera much, and I don't need an mp3 player, so I don't care much for those features, but it would be nice to have them. To me, priority is reception, ease-of-use (good UI), size/weight (the smaller the better), and style.

What do you guys recommend I look into? Just throw out some suggestions and I'll do the research - I just want to narrow down my pool of choices as there are A LOT of phones out there.

Good sliders in my opinion:

Samsung D900, Sony Ericsson w850 (a bit more than $400), Motorola RIZR Z3? (never had this one, but I've heard its a good slider).

Samsung in general makes the best sliders. Although if reception is your main priority, look into nokia's E65?

Yeah, the E65 looks like a connectivity mammoth, which is awesome. It's just a tad too expensive, but if I snatch it at a good price, I'll be a happy man.

yeah i think its $550+ for a brand new one, which is pretty expensive..
I doubt the price will drop much either
look at the E61..

I think locally here in Vancouver you cant get a brand new one for less than $450

I'm in your same boat!!
I want a slider phone QUADBAND + slider + stylish + cheap =P

I have heard that the D900 is bad reception for a quadband which shifts me away b/c I need Great reception...

Nokia E65 would be my next choice but its too expensive for me =(.. same with the future iphone.

I have decided on the Moto Rizr so far... I have yet to get it but plan to very soon.

yep same here...

I was tempted to buy the D900 but with so many people suffering from cracked LCDs theres no way I'm going down that road.

I can't afford the E65 or LG shine at the moment. Perhaps later but I want a new slider... Now

Perhaps the D820...

Get the RIZR Z3. the price will go down more when TMobile starts to sell it middle of this month.

BTW, as an update, I pretty much decided on the E65 - it's a bit pricier than I would have liked, but I think it should be worth it. Just can't pass up its looks and WiFi!

where have you been looking to get the e65 in Toronto?

Have you checked Pacific Mall? -just wanted to compare prices 'cause I've been looking to purchase that phone too and have been shopping around.

id go for a nokia n80 ...you wont have to worry about upgrading for a long time...

if u don't require smartphone capabilities and basic functions, the samsung z720 is pretty good. Beautiful design and style. Exactly what you ask for. =)

can see the reviews here: http://www.mobileconnectionz.com/sa...-compreview.php

do leave your comments!

i'd recommend the n80 for sure, it's really nice and has great features including wifi, the reception is great, as with all nokias and it is really easy to get used to. and the price range is about that much on hofo b/s/t

check out the specs here:

I'd recommend the N80 also.... that is if you intend using your phone to cause blunt force trauma to an unsuspecting victim.

Get something smaller and sleeker.

got the rizr totally loving it!
Amazin reception and the price wasnt too bad $250US
great camera + mp3 player and i think it looks hot

Posted by: Cosmic Fur

Yeah, the N80 looks great on paper, but it's a bit of a brick.

well ... im waiting in a n95 ... and ill be done with phones for a longtime...if you dont like the n80... then i really cant recomend a better slidder.
