And here I thought I could get anything off of ebay... I am looking for an unlocked GU87 (can't make me use AT&T!) - any out there? Is the problem that it is a US phone and most unlocks come from overseas?

GU87 is only sold to AT&T at the moment. there are none unlocked, but given a choice I would get a GD with A38 and save the battery life.

The GD gets better battery life then the GU? Aren't they using the same hardware and battery? The GU hardware is made in the Philippines (with Japanese parts), just like the GD88. Where is the GD87 made?

All True, but the GU has EOTD locationing turned on, this means that the receiver is on more often and therefore consumes more battery power. in GD this feature is turned off

If you want you can get the GD88 which is unlocked. I like the GD88 better then the GU 87

timetrax, There are threads already about how to get your gu unlocked. I suggest you research the issue by reading the threads pertaining to unlocking GD and GU mobiles
