Is it possible to link my LGVX8100 phone with my laptop
via Bluetooth .. and use the phone's GPS with some mapping software
on the laptop?

I'm hoping I can get NMEA info from the phone. any thoughts?

Theoretically, it seems like it should work. I haven't been able to find a way to make it work, though. My Nokia N800 Internet Tablet recognizes the paired VX8100 as a GPS device, but it is never able to acquire a location.

I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that you have to put the phone into a special mode for it to begin finding it's location. This is achieved by using an emergency number in your phone such as 911 or 922. The latter being preferable as it is not advisable to go calling 911 every time you want to check your location. You can check that these coordinates were obtained through the service menu.

You should check out the thread here. For how to go about doing this. As far as reading that information and using the phone as a gps unit, I don't recall anyone having been able to do that (or else, believe me I would have tried it) and I do recall several trying. If you get it figured out, I'd love to hear about it.
