Jason Dunn over at smartphonethoughts.com provided information regarding the possible replacement for the HTC Star Trac which has been rumored in the past. Jason points out that there is no guarantee that any of this information is accurate, but assuming it is:

- compared to the HTC StrTrk, ROM had been doubled from 64 MB to 128 MB;
- CPU has been changed from a 195mhz Texas Instruments OMAP 850 to a Samsung SC32442 running at 400mhz;
- Looks like it's UMTS, so we finally have 3G support in this device style;
- Battery is at 940 mAH;
- Seems to have GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 as well;
- HTC appears to have left it at USB 1.1.
- Windows Mobile 6 (Standard Verision)

Note: The Qtek 8500/Dopod300/imate smart flip came with a 750mAh which imo, was too little. The Cingular 3125 had a 1100 mAh battery but added just a little bulk to the device which made it last 2-3 days under moderate use, but some complained they didn't like the added bulk. The S420 with the 940 mAh seems to be a compromise solution between the two previous battteries. The usb connection is again a proprietary connection most likely due to a desire to keep the device thin. I hope that a least it is the same one on the star trac so existing accessories can be used again.

Rumored to be relaesed in April. No prices yet suggested. No word on any U.S. carriers. I read in another post that Cingular was going to discontinue the 3125 so this might its replacement, hopefully. IMO, the star trac line was very good but each model had some issues with the rom and/or physical issues which all were not major (except the missed call issues with the 8500 rom). Hopefully, HTC fixed them all with this new device.
