Razr (v3?) Stuck in Boot Loader

This is probably a fairly common complaint, but my friend just got a new phone and gave me his Razr to replace my old phone. It was bought 8 months ago, so I think it's a v3. However, it has been having issues that it repeatedly gets stuck so that it only boots to the Boot Loader.

From reading around it sounds like I have to reflash, but I have no idea how to (or if I should) do that, or even what it does (apart from erasing the memory). I have a Mac, also, so most phone utilities won't run, which is an issue. I also don't really want to do any kind of modding that would void any repair warranties I might have.

Any help or suggestions for a lost newb? Should I just try to return the phone for a new one?

The process requires special software (not sure if Mac compatible) or equipment to perform PDS repair. There is a deep software corruption. We manage to save most of the ones we see.

We tend to see these when too many or poorly executed mods are done.

water damage to the flash chip can also cause this error

Thanks for the help. I doubt it's water damage, so I think I'll just bring it back to the store and see what they say about fixing the software.
